Interested in Fashion Photography? Check out this Masterclass with James Nader and get the best fashion photography tips from an expert!
Learnings you can expect to implement right away:
- For every project try to create a mood board to work from with the whole team on the day.
- Try to correctly select your model, you don’t need a professional model, just someone who is aware of their own body and the way it moves, the way the arms bend, and the joints flex. Using a photogenic model doesn’t mean beautiful, but someone who can create a believable the, and have a great presence on the camera.
- It’s ok to keep things simple and shoot with one light. Get great with this and then add another
- Have tenacity and patience, be creative and organised, develop attention to detail.
- Don’t be shy and get inspired by other people’s work (but don’t copy!).
James Nader is a British fashion photographer, director, and filmmaker who has gained his clients and followers with his avant-garde styled work.
Today, James shares his take on fashion photography. He gained knowledge and expertise throughout 20 years in the industry and wants to share it with you! Learn more not only about what is fashion photography but how to fast-track your own career in fashion photography.
Learn about the different camera equipment suitable for different projects as well as the correct settings. If you wonder about how to get started, see how to deal with prep, choose your model, background, location, or how to master lighting, composition, or patterns. Hear about James’ inspiration and his years in the industry.

Everyone can join in the fun of fashion photography and experience the life of a fashion photographer which actually sounds super with their traveling to exotic locations or even in a studio in rainy London. But the fascination with the fashion genre brings more and more competition and creative photographers, Wedio is here to give you some tips on what fashion photography is all about, what are the different types of fashion photography and genres, with tips on how to get started and become the best.

Mr Nader you have given us One of the most thorough and inspirational videos I’ve ever seen on KZbin. Your work is superb and your communication skills are second to none. You’ve made me proud to be photographer. I’m in my 70s and I’ve been recently looking at my past work with new eyes. I’ve been primarily shooting beauty glamour and all those who call themselves entertainment professionals. I also love lifestyle, landscape and cityscape. There are few thing I won’t shoot if I see inspiration. Im am now a permanent fixture as an observer in your world. Thank you so much for this utmost generous presentation. Thank you Sir. f

Thank you so much Erahk 🤩No, a great question! It's standard vintage bulbs/lamps you can buy in a regular home store - you can recreate the look by just buying those with some warm light 🙌

Thank you for reply, what's that mean 5:18, with mirror on the back? Another deep question: what can be considered a great fashion photo?

Oh, amazing, thanks for the timestamp, Ryan. James is indeed talking about ARRI lights (a specific brand) and redheads which are basic continuous lights traditionally found in film and photography studios with open face and a red "head" - that's why the name ☺️ Hope that helps! In regards to your second question, I think that's up for debate and really depends on the goal you have. If you'd like to chat with James himself about it, you can do that now! As of yesterday, we offer free 1-on-1 talks with James about photography or any other struggles and questions you might have connected to the industry business, creativity and more! What does he mean when he say aryan lights and redhead, what's that?
@Wedio_community

Thank you for your comment Ryan! In the lighting section of this masterclass James mentioned couple types of lights. He mentioned ARRI lights, redhead and blonde lights, where ARRI is the brand, blonde light is a general-purpose light common in visual media work and readhead light is an open face tungsten light which means a 1000 Watt bare bulb in a reflector with no lens. Hope that answers the question but please do let me know if you have any others 🙏

Thing is... it is ultimately down to your taste. Not many people have good taste. They select a decent rug for the house and they think they have taste. You can learn technical aspects and technique but without taste.... No one wants to hear that though, because it's too uncomfortable. A bit like learning that someone else is more 'sexy' than you. Can you learn that? Maybe not...
