Tbf in Japanese she's not the ultimate fashionista but the ultimate gyaru which isn't really the same thing. Btw note that her dress style in is that of a Kogyaru since she wears an outfit close to the school uniform. Also, BIG SPOILER concerning the game scenario: Anyway it's not even Junko who is judged in this video so rip Mukuro, you got judged without even wearing your real outfit. Well, it probably wouldn't have changed much to her ranking in the tier list, but still.

spoiler again: she isn’t even actually the ultimate fashionista, NOR is she the ultimate despair (which is a more metaphorical title) she’s actually the ultimate analyst! That’s why she’s always talking about thing being boring and such, because she can analyze situations so easily and we’ll that all possible outcomes are clear to her. Despair, in her eyes, causes things to go off course in a way she can’t foresee as well/easily which is one of the reasons she has so much gravitation towards it. (i believe this is all revealed in the spin off manga focusing on her, and i don’t think it’s covered in the main game or anime adaptation, which is a shame because i think it really fleshes out her character!!)

@@Error-gz3pp it’s not necessarily being well versed in Japanese fashion trends, it quite /literally/ is her talent in the original, Japanese language that the game came out in. English doesn’t have a great way of saying “rebellious unique fashionable highschool girl” in one word, so they called her the ult fashionista. Gyaru is much more her style, and explains the large and discombobulated aesthetics, clashing patterns and accessories.

@@omgitsmeg_ No, I understand, and I think that translating it as the Ultimate Gyaru would make sense (I don’t think that the Ultimate Fashionista is a good translation), but non-Japanese audiences wouldn’t know what that is. They would have to explain what gyaru is in her introduction, probably, and at that point it feels a lot more like they’re just spouting exposition at the player because (to my knowledge) gyaru is not an unpopular subculture in Japan and most characters would know what it is. It’s really just an unfortunate case of culture shock meeting “no direct translation”.

I think the core of a lot of the outfits are that they’re school uniforms, and since he’s a hall monitor (and all-around rules follower), he would be extremely compliant with the dress code, so him having a hat would be kinda odd. Honestly, his outfit is pretty great for his character, and is one of the standouts of the game.

Junko did not deserve this slander, the style that she wears is called Gyaru, or gal, it's a style that originated to basically challenge the beauty standards in japan, so girls would bleach their hair blonde, tan their skin and wear more revealing clothing. The style that Junko wears is called Kogal, which is a style most popular with teenage girls, they basically modify their school uniforms, often wearing slouch socks, big cardigans, and other accessories, like rings and bracelets, making their ties or bows looser or bigger and long, acrylic nails. Junko is wearing a modified school uniform, like a lot of the other dr characters, but she makes it more revealing, showing her chest and bra, making her skirt shorter, and wearing big platform boots.

I just wanted to give a few fun facts and things about some of the outfits, since there’s a couple reasons why some of them dress the way they do! spoilers ahead for the entire game btw- first off, all the small symbols that appear on their clothes are the symbols of their previous schools! every character has one, except Aoi apparently ^^ speaking of Aoi, she’s the only girl in the franchise that wears pants in the games the reason Toko wears a long skirt compared to all the others is because, like said, there’s Genocider Jack. the long skirt is there to cover the tally marks Jack leaves after killing a guy,, personally, i think her outfit in ultra despair girls is even cooler, because the skirt has a slit so we can see the tally marks & she had thigh high socks! another translation for Junko’s title is super high school level gyaru! which i think explains her outfit more :) also, another personal preference, but i like one of her outfits in the anime more than this one, which consists of a leopard print dress with fur on the collar, a brown belt, and sunglasses ^^ mondo as a character is a big reference to josuke higashikata from jojo’s bizarre adventure, and on the back of his coat are the words “the crazy diamonds,” both a reference to josuke’s stand and his biker gang! those are the ones that stood out to me/i thought of, but there are plenty of other little character tidbits with their designs

Is Christian up for reviewing fantasy designs like Final Fantasy XIV? I'd love to see him review the artifact gear for each job. Basically each class has a gear set exclusive to it, meant to embody that class, and each expansion releases a new set of artefact armor (plus male/female variations!). y'know what?
