Fast 82 VW Rabbit Pickup Turbo Deisel

This is the rabbit I currently have on listed on eBay. Engine custom built by us here at TJ customs performance shop. The turbo is a custom built GARRETT ball bearing that I had built to my specs.

I have an 1981 rabbit stock 1.6na. I read that adding a turbo to a stock 1.6na is a bad idea, since the connecting rods are weak?? Is this true?? I really want to slap a turbo in mine or to suffice I'll have to slap a factory turbo 1.6 in but don't want to do that...

On a lot of engines, not sure about vw, the pistons are different and oil cooled, not sure about rods, also the exhaust valves are different material to cope with extra heat and u will need to increase fuelling, turning the pump up lengthens the injection duration on the VE pump, better to get bigger element to get the most out of it, inject more, but over same duration....anyway, get a spare engine and try it? it might be ok on the vw engine?

+Migool in regards to turbo...On gas engines you are correct but mechanical diesel you are dead wrong. With mechanical diesel you will get better mileage and more power. No BS just more efficient.

I disagree, if you do nothing to the fueling, the extra air will give a more complete burn.

Diesel turbo's are usually a performance upgrade without effecting the economy of the vehicle. The turbos on gasoline engines are just to increase the amount of air so more fuel can be added into the combustion chamber. This results in a fixed Air/Fuel Ratio with additions being made on both sides. In a diesel set up the compression ratio changes so you will use the same amount of fuel just igniting the mixture at a lower RPM because of the increased compression. This being said I'm not entirely sure in the physical difference of the turbocharger design from gasoline turbos to diesel ones. I'm currently looking into modifications on my 1997 VW Jetta TDI. Hopefully this clears up the differences. TL;DR Gas turbos and Diesel turbos are different. Diesel turbos normally keep the economy stock or improved.
