Love this Patrick. It's really hard to talk and paint at the same time because it forces us to use both sides of the brain at the same time - a real skill and you've mastered it. It's also really good for brain health. I love listening to your process as you paint and talk, and I also really love your voice over narration and learn so much from it as well. Those shadows on the boat had me almost holding my breath when you started them but true to form they turned out beautifully - authentic and original Ley-Greaves!Thanks again. .... Oh, and I really like how you handled the upper right background.

Thanks Patricia. I was enjoying the session so much I was just painting freely with little regard to the finished painting. When your in that place painting is so much more enjoyable and so the result! Since I’ve been playing chess ( last 3 months) I have found it easier to think more clearly. I m sure it’s benefiting my painting too. Thanks again for commenting and keep in touch.

Playing chess! .... that's terrific. I haven't played chess in years. It certainly does clear the mind.

Thanks Patrick. What's so daunting for many of us, me really , is doing a first wash with colours that seem unnatural and then seeing it looking " a mess" as you said. After your second layer and details it looked lovely. Yes, I know many years of practice. I have overall many years but with looong gaps ( kids, work etc. Started again 3 yrs ago. Hope to improve

Thanks Barbara just look at the first wash as staining the paper. Some artists call it a ghost wash. Make sure you mix enough wash to complete the wash. You don’t want to be thinking what colours do I need half way down the page. Just relax into your painting, be prepared to experiment not worrying about the outcome and you’ll soon start improving. Most of all have fun and enjoy your painting.

@@PatrickLeyGreaves thanks Patrick. I'm going to repeat a painting (on the back) I did of a very sunlit town in Puglia, Italy, with white buildings and use your method.

Thanks for a great masterclass. I especially like being able to see how you put the colours onto the palette and then put them on the page so they merge and blend with time. I tend to forget the transformation that will come about as the paint dries. And the commentary is very useful.

After working for 30 hours straight, this video is what I chose to give my 1 hour (a week) to, and I'm glad that I did. I think I'm relaxed enough now to sleep . You're very talented, and this video was so well made. Thank you for taking the time to put it on youtube. Next week I will try the painting, I believe.

Most enjoyable to watch and learn. I also love the music. may I ask what that music is? It is wonderful to paint to. I love this painting. It is so relaxing to look at.

Thanks Terry. The backing tract is from a company called epidemic sound. The name of the music was called Lighthouse.which I looked for the video. There is a monthly fee payable to use there music commercially.

I really look forward to your demos Patrick... I try and emulate your style in my own work and I notice that when you paint, you don't ever blot up any mistakes or even for creating texture. Is this something your against or just not your style....? I find it to be very effective in my own work. Regards and HUGE thanks!

To be honest I would rather work with the marks I make than try lifting out mistakes. I find most of the time mistakes can largely be hidden. We all have different methods of dealing with mistakes . Thanks for your comment.
