Good to see the water you do it so well and make it look easy. Watching for me had the big key of the light touch and not overworking, really bad habits of mine. Next time I try this, relaxing and getting in the layers of color, including the darks looks very important. I will have to watch again and do a paint along. Thanks, have a great week.
@PatrickLeyGreaves5 жыл бұрын
That’s the way to do it Essie, watch and rewatch then paint along with it. It will soon stick in your mind what to do. A lot of the techniques will be useful in other paintings you do to so it will be time well spent. 😀

That's my practice for tomorrow Patrick. Lovely effect. You say you're laid back about the precision, you don't care, so to speak, but you were so careful about the big rock, very accurate, even the little light patch in front of it. So the expertise is where to be careful and where to relax. Thank you.
@PatrickLeyGreaves5 жыл бұрын
I definitely gave the rock more consideration. But the message I’m trying to convey is relax and don’t worry about the end result just enjoy the moment . When I do that I really do create better paintings. Thanks for commenting 😀

Thank you Patrick, this was an excellent video. I def struggle with preserving my whites and will be trying this technique this weekend at a local beach. I've fought with frisket (often using a wet-on-wet technique) but I love the look with the edge of the brush with wet-on-dry. Looks so much like how water behaves when crashing against rocks.

Good video Patrick! You make it look easy. I’m glad you’re back making videos. Years ago I came across one of your videos and that’s basically was my start in watercolors. Lately I had very little time to paint. I always liked your loose style of painting it looks relaxed and easy to look at.

Patrick - do you have any words of advice about signing a painting? Like where to sign it and what to use? Paint and brush? Pen?
@PatrickLeyGreaves5 жыл бұрын
I generally sign with a small brush with a very good point either in bottom left or right corner. I don’t like my signature to stand out much so I choose a colour that sympathetic to the background. Hope that helps.

A true beginner...I love this...you make it look so easy..will have to try it...one question...when you are putting the 2nd layers on, is the paper completely dry?....thank you again❤️
@PatrickLeyGreaves5 жыл бұрын
Hi Margo. Yes when I’m putting the second wash over the sea the painting is completely dry. Good luck with the painting it’s perfect in my opinion for beginners.
@myutub0905715 жыл бұрын
Very nice technique... another aspect that could be considered is preserving the whites along the horizon with a bit more dry brush, to capture the highlights. Nevertheless, thanks for the vids, enjoy the paintings👍

Patrick, not counting the time it takes to sketch the scene, how long, on average, would you say it takes you to finish a painting? I am so slow, it takes me days, working on it and then stepping away, over and over. I hope to get faster with experience.

Never understood why chinese white works perfectly as white in chinese strokes and mixed with watercolors don't match the tone. (I never used professional white guache. Maybe be one error mine.) Personally, don't like this idea of use not with. I always try this color for sake of some ideas...
