You're right, just a pipe and a map, extra tooth on the rear and it's amazing (if still a bit big and cumbersone in relation to the rest). But we test out of the crate, what the consumer buys first and foremost and, as such, it's a little lacking in some areas - but still awesome!

BMW and Aprilia were initially designed when electronics were just being introduced. I am guessing that having a solid mechanical platform is still the most important aspect. Nice to see a comparatively tiny company like Aprilia stick it to the big boys and their massive budget and resources. Like they said, they are all very close when it comes to performance so no wrong choice nowadays.

The good thing about them is that they never unnecessarily boast or bluff about their victories. APRILIA is totally supersport dedicated brand. @PrimiusLovin6 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but I'm going to give you an obvious example of how ridiculous the price/performance difference can get between motorcycles and cars, e.g @ - Pikes Peak Hill Climb: A 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, a fairly expensive race car, is 1.5 seconds faster than... get ready for it, "a 2009 Aprilia SXV450"!!
@marmax52726 жыл бұрын
an example how a factory race bike prepared specifically to go up pike peak with a cost of about 100k originally and a 75k road car, this year a 2.5 tonne standard Bentley SUV was only 58 sec slower than the record holding factory prep KTM, there are no real straight forward comparisons between cars and bikes and cost,
@PrimiusLovin6 жыл бұрын
Yes there is a straightforward comparison: '10:35.354' (2009 Aprilia SXV450: $8799) VS '10:33.897' (2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport: $165,000)!!

I thought the same thing but this test was conducted in 2018, and according to my research that was the last year of F4 production. They only made 100 bikes and they sold for $83,000 each. They should have included it, but the exclusivity and everything may have made it impossible.

Thanks for the vlog. It was interesting hearing the Honda comment about a box full of neutrals. I've had the same experience with a different bike and it really is annoying exaggerating your effort in gear changes but every cloud has a silver lining because my experience is that it goes away after the box has been run in a bit. I was more than surprised with the oggy knobs because I'd rather be replacing some casings and fairings instead of frames.

I was surprised to see the V4 that far from first but it didn't bother me. I want that RSV4 bad! I'd buy it even if it was in last place. I mean obviously since I ride on top of a furnace with 170 hp I call the bucking bronco.

It’s a bike for show and looks. They are a lot of work to ride hard on the track. Virtually no amateur [not factory supported] racers ride any generation of Panigale.

I can tell by that last thing he said obviously this is a test on the track and it's in regards to out of the Box but it would be cool to see the difference with a full exhaust and programmer on all of them . . .

It was toooooo much of a drop for me for some bikes and tooooooo much of a rise for others. Fagen should have been selected to do the timed laps. Nothing against the other guy but the levels of inconsistency between all the bikes from last year’s test to this year was toooooooo much. The drop for the R1M and the rise of the BMW didn’t make any sense, the GIXXER dropped but better than an upgrade R1M??? Really????
@fastbikes6 жыл бұрын
The track had a hand in things, no doubt, and you can't do anything other than say it how you find it, can you? This year, at this track, this is the way things were. And some of the differences are explainable, like this was the BMW 'Sport' S thou', a better version than we had last year which helped bump it above the Gixer and the R1M, with the new (not out last year) Ducati splitting them. The ZX SE was enough of an upgrade on the RR to place it above the blade this time around, etc etc. There's not actually massive differences if you really think about it and, of course, there's method to our madness...
@chi500ridah26 жыл бұрын
Fast Bikes Magazine I guess I can understand some of that reasoning however the BMW beating the R1M on any track is a suspect result considering their record on track in the “real” race world, the R1 kills that bike everywhere on every track all day long. The Bimmer was placed tooooo high on a “fastest/agility bike test” not to raise eyebrows considering it’s record on track when placed against its rivals, and I don’t even like Ducati but it was too low considering its record on track, etc. Fagen should have done the timed laps I think the change of the final test rider was key. The change in track played a part but the tell, tell signs were the placement of track focused bikes to their street Bike rivals.
@fastbikes6 жыл бұрын
Fella, comparing proddy bikes with any racing results is a bit pointless, far too many variables goes into making a bike race worthy, even in Superstock classes, and that's before you even include the meat in charge. Though going by your reasoning, in the closest to proddy bike classes, Superstock, the R1 is getting its arse handed to it in BSB and the European series that runs with WSB, usually by BMWs. But honestly, even saying that means very little, and if you move up to WSB or whatever, the irrelevance to how proddy bikes compare against each other is so huge as to make it completely meaningless - aside from in manufacturer marketing departments of course! As for the man doing the lapping, they're about the same pace, the only real difference is one of them prefers far too much cheese on his burger! So, again, otherwise differences are pretty much completely explainable and bikes like the RSV, R1 and BMW have been up the top of the charts for years already anyway, for good reason.
@chi500ridah26 жыл бұрын
Fast Bikes Magazine maybe in the states it’s different and in WSBK but R1 routinely beats the Bimmer and it’s not even a question. I realize though that those bikes are a lot different from stock bikes that goes without saying but in our stock and superstock races here the results are the same R1 on top, Ducati on top, Bimmer DNF. Like I said it wasn’t just the R1 but it also beat a Ducati on track, lol that’s crazy. Also I’ve seen those two test riders on other reviews and the heavier one usually is on top, and is readily admitted to be faster by the skinny guy, lol! Anyway, anytime results change that dramatically where bikes that have actually been improved get worse placement in a test you know there have been other changes which affected the results, and the two things here are the track and the rider, my money is on the rider being the flaw. Also current BSB standing have the BMW at 9 & 10 with the R1 3 places ahead!
@fastbikes6 жыл бұрын
Er, there's no way in hell Bruce would admit to being slower than Fagan (if he even is), the same goes the other way around though, ex racers both, neither would ever give quarter to another, verbally or on track, so not sure where you saw that! :-) The BSB thing, that's Superbikes not Superstock, and as we said the further up the class chain you go the more irrelevent any comp' becomes. Yeah Yamaha have been big guns in the States for a while, they were the only manufacturer to really support the racing over there after the AMA debacle and the 'dark times' (we won't speak their name...) thereafter until Rainey and Co came in to save the day and, even then, Yamaha have still been the most proactive manufacturer since then too (bar Yoshi Suzuki of course, and now Ducati are getting involved too), in all the classes, with the best support which also attracts the best teams and riders and, furthermore, racing also depends on the ruleset, some rules gives some bikes a wee bump up by proxy. So, racing/proddy comps, best left alone really, proper big minefield we can go back and forth with for hours! Cheers for the chat brother!

funny how the Honda had all those complaints, but didn't come in last...The panigale was designed with a specific tire size...as far as I'm aware of, which is only made by Pirelli. So they put a handicap on the panigale from the jump. But i'm confused as to why bridgestones were used as opposed to Pirelli Corsa's which have become the standard of track day and sport bike tires...
@fastbikes6 жыл бұрын
Tyres were the right size for the Panigale, and the new R11s are stupidly good hoops, wouldn't have made any difference if they'd stayed on the Pirellis, plus the Panigale (like a couple of other bikes) has a tyre calibration system on it precisely because they know folk will change tyres. RSV was also 'developed' for Pirellis too.

So, in summary: buy the GSX-R1000R. It's the third best on track in this test and by far the best on the road and the best to own (it's the most comfortable in terms or ergos and the least expensive). The BMW is at the end of its production cycle and it's too heavy; the Aprilia is unbelievably uncomfortable on the road and unreliable.
@fastbikes6 жыл бұрын
6 foot 2" here, and have toured on an RSV in complete comfort, and it didn't break down! Also ran one for six months commuting through winter a couple of years back, no problems there either. It's a far better road bike than many would credit it being. The Gixer is though, as you say, a brilliant machine all round, only missing two of the BMW's creature comforts to make it completely perfect.

Oh we did, last year, coincidentally right about the time certain TT racers were effectively under gagging orders to not talk about the issues they'd had with the (then) new bike. Nothing wrong with it, apparently, in fact they were getting quite irate with anyone (not just us, far from it) saying anything negative about the bike. Head, sand, etc...
@pommeybiker6 жыл бұрын
Reckon its worth another go? should be able to replicate on a dyno?
@fastbikes6 жыл бұрын
We've had three on the dyno, including both from SBOTY (17 & 18) and it never raised its head. Never had it happen on the road and you can sometimes go a whole session without it happening once, but then it can happen a whole bunch of times. The real big one is slipping out of gear under acceleration and that's happened to a few of us the last two years, bloody scary if you're still banked over. Yes we could try again, but to be quite honest getting a straight answer, given it appears a random(ish) issue, won't be straight forward, if at all possible in the first place. Allow us to cogitate on it further...

For all the engineering prowess of Honda, it's unacceptable. If the issue really boils down to adding a few thousandths of an inch of metal to a transmission part to guarantee it would never happen ever again, why all the corporate and PR political rubbish? Just fix it and do it quickly. It was working just fine for a long time until Honda "upgraded" the Fireblade for the first time in a long time. Well, they fixed what wasn't broken in the case of transmission function.
