Unbelievable! The way you design these boats, taking the centers of gravity into account, etc., really shows your knowledge and talent! You can really tell the difference in how these cut through the water compared to other sailboats. And with the interior cabin layout, these are not just rc boats. These are miniaturized sailboat works of art! You are a great inspiration sir 👍

They are both amazing boats and beautiful designs. My grandson wants to build Emma after we watched several.of your videos and he is only five. These boats are SO beautiful! It really inspires me to try making my own one day. I wonder if you have any suggestions on videos or websites that might help me start out? Especially any designs that are quite functional, cheap (as I live with very little money most of the time) and don't require much in the way of power tools... Thanks again for the fantastic videos!

Does this schooner come with the remote control & electronics needed to be put into the boat so it can move, or do you have to buy them from a different place? I'm thinking of buying a kit myself, but I need to know If you need to buy a remote and the electronic parts that help make the boat move from a different company.

Thanks for asking, we sell only DIY plans for this schooner. You must obtain all materials and scratch build the boat yourself.

very interesting , I wonder how she would perform with internal ballast and a lifting keel in the style of the shoal water schooners that abounded prior to WW2. I only ask as this hull form and rig might scale up as a useful raid boat at 24 feet overall she would still be trailer able. water ballast ???

Why do you make the fin keel so deep? Is it more for grip to windward than getting the ballast lower?
@sailtails27753 жыл бұрын
The fin is deep (18" draft) primarily to get the ballast lower, thus lowering the overall CG of the boat.

What do you think of scaling Annie down to about 75%? Seems it ought to sail as well, and be easier to handle in the car.
@sailtails2775 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ron for asking about this.. While it could perhaps be done, it is just not as simple as it might appear. I generally do not suggest scaling a design (up or down) more than about 10%. Refer to my video about the matter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnncp3h9g7mgr6s

The "Emma" Plans show a sail ARM servo (HiTec HS-765HB), used in the original "Emma" for its' simplicity. This servo can be found many places including www.servocity.com/hs-765hb-servo Cheers, Gary

Any advice of book to recommend to newbies sir
@sailtails2775 Жыл бұрын
Not aware of an appropriate book, but KZbin videos are a great source of information. Search for specific topics such as "RC sailboat build" or "Sailmaking for RC models" or "Radio control for model sailboats" or any other detail you seek to learn about, such as "spars" or "rigging" or "hatches" for rc model boats. Hope this is helpful. Cheers !

Hi Gary I’m building your Anne at the moment but having problems sourcing 1/2” 13mm dowels for the 53” needed for the main mast, I live in the South East of England, has anyone managed to source it , Thanks,Really enjoying this build
@sailtails27753 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, I find dowels usually 36" or 48" in length so I scarfed 2 together to make the 53" mainmast for Annie. I've sent you an email with a few photos to show how this can be done easily enough without any fancy equipment.

@tcsyme5 жыл бұрын
Noel, Shipping to the UK via USPS priority mail with tracking and insurance and takes 8-10 business days. It costs approximately $36. First class mail does not have tracking or insurance, takes a few days longer, and will be about $13.

_Beautiful,_ and I see you have fabricated many components yourself. Strangely, I have never seen wooden turning blocks or wooden cleats on an RC model. Not one. Why? They´re very handsome, and I suppose not so heavy that it would necessarily offend a “racer.“ The boom vang is set at an angle which makes it dramatically less effective, but you did say that elastic “give“ is designed in. Do the plans say that _Annie_ is a schooner? _Annie_ is a ketch because only one mast carries a gaff. I have never piloted a gaff-rigged boat, either full- or model-sized. You say it has a personality all of its own, but what? Promise me that you will construct a miniature model of your (full-size) boat to go itself inside _Annie._ That will be so... recursive. You might say it´s an _inside_ joke.
@sailtails27753 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brian, I suppose such wooden blocks & cleats are not seen more often because they must be handmade rather than purchased. The Vang angle is as good as it can be given the realistic proportions of the rig's layout. Annie is a SCHOONER! A 2 masted schooner's Mainmast (located aft) is equal or taller than her Foremast. Even though she has a Marconi Mainsail, ANNIE is still a Schooner. The Mainmast on a Ketch (located forward) is taller than her Mizzen mast. As far as personality, sailing Annie is rather like driving a big old American luxury car on the open highway. Think "Coupe deVille". Miniature model inside Annie? No promise, but I like that idea. Annie's interior is a work in progress, a well hidden inside joke for sure. Cheers!
