Veyron first to run 250 mph? Uh, no. Reeves Callaway built a Corvette with a twin turbo 350 in 1988 that ran 254 mph. That is verified.

I still remember watching this documentary on TV, I think it was Discovery Channel, back in the late 90's, early 00's...I never managed to find it again for almost 20 years. Only a couple years ago I found it again. And to see it here, posted by Callaway Cars themselves...is such a joy. Thanks, guys!

If only we could see this in higher resolution. This is one of the best car/art videos I have ever watched. But, being filmed in (what I assume is) VGA just kills it. But hey, what could they do in 2000? 😆 F50 all day. Callaway, winner all day too! But, that 993 Turbo, man, that was my dream car in high school.

It's mind boggling how advanced Callaway was with the C4's. The power they were making off a TPI, while remaining reliable and drievable is simply incredible! And then add in the areo body and there's nothing else like it. People forget how bad the 80's were for muscle/sports cars. And then to knock it out of the park with the C12 after the C5 came out? Unbelievable!!

Look at how far apart Ferrari and GM were at this time. Ferrari with F1 engines in their cars and GM... With a single cam pushrod lmao

@newtonfirefly35842 жыл бұрын
@@hakrsakr @zaknefain100 actaully the C8-R engine uses a 5.5 L DOHC, flat-plane crank, similar with Ferrari, Lamboghini, etc. - producing the limits of LeMans power, with a very quick, high level power and torque response Won GTLM 2020, their GT class 2021 - new rules this year - competing with three cars, one in each for GT LeMans, IMSA, another GT - am not aware, yet of the standings, though they still perform among the top, winning many. Such the 2023 C8 Z06/7 has this same engine available in production - far more reasonable in price than any European vehicle, more reliable, dependable, durable, and can be modified as desired - also the Stingray with LT2-6.2 L can be modified with a Twin Turbo or blower-supercharger set up, etc. - achieve 750wHP-1000wHP-1500wHP - issue will be the TCU with the ECU, - only 'piggyback' ECU(s) designed available - but much P/A can be achieved with simpler modifications the DCT - especially from Dodson - can handle. Still modification costs with the vehicle cost are much less than these various European higher priced vehicles - the Porsche boxter engine is well known to have limited durability - there are better replacement engines - thus, purchasing a used vehicle then modifying, swapping the engine can be much better - including using a Ferrari F136 (less expensive than a Porsche boxter - far more powerful -etc. 4.5 L) or more recent (cost more) - prefer the Porsche mid-engine placement to the older 911 rear engine too -personally There is much one can do, with many types of options of engines, drive trains, etc.

Corvette would be the cheapest to maintain.
@newtonfirefly35842 жыл бұрын
@Chemical Spore; as Reeves Callaway intended - The Callaway C4 Corvette is designed, developed to me highly reliable, dependable, enjoyable, powerful, race-able, track-able, drive it to the track and home and for all daily, desired uses. Thus, not only the cheapest, lowest purchase price, including the full modification package, it uses parts for maintenance which commonly available, accessible, with the typical maintenance schedule, increased depending upon the amount of high performance, track use, easy and simple to maintain as any C4, with many of the characteristics a buyer of, with a performance vehicle desires - but not everyone - some are willing to pay for the type of experience with a Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Rimac, GT40, etc. What Reeves Callaway has done with the C4, am very interested to know more about his own developed C7 - perhaps he has gone onto or in the process with a mid-engine -which for my view, perspective, perception is the best. Actually more interested in a Callaway Fiero [if he would do it] than any Corvette C3-C7 - and some advantages compared with a C8 too. What do You think? What is Your view of Your type of best vehicle ? Sincerely

I want a racing car on the road. Not as a daily mind you but I'm willing to deal with all the race car stuff like expensive fuel, poor ride quality, constant maintenance (especially on a Chevy). That's the price you pay to drive a race car on the street
