Forgive me if this has already been suggested or if you have already thought of this yourselves. As I was watching this video I imagined building a funnel of sorts under the rabbit hutches. They could be made of pretty much anything you have plenty of, plywood, sheet metal, etc. If they are made of wood you could cover them with something slick to prevent sticking and make clean up easier. Like overlapping shingles made of plastic milk jugs. Put a bag underneath them them and the rabbits end up pooping right into the bags. All you have to do is collect the bags when they are full. I hope this is helpful.

I'm in east texas but years ago in the late 70's my girls and I lived in a small apartment complex in san angelo, tx. We were so poor, and the girls did chores for the older couple that managed. Thier son was trying to get a restaurant rabbit business started. He brought 3 rabbits to his mom every 2 weeks, she gave us 2. It was such a kindness , a Christian gift of love. To the point we loved them so much, more than awful chicken. (I always think I can smell the feathers. Love. Your sweet show. Job

This is a great suggestion. I had over 400 rabbits. All in individual cages. We put paddle/blades in a old washing machine so we were able to cut up the rabbit droppings and Bag it. We also had worm farms underneath the rabbit cages ,So I have plenty of worms and warm castings. We have a company come out and clean up underneath the cages and caught the worms. They did all the work and we got paid. We sold show rabbits all over the world. Several different breeds. We sold The rabbit droppings. Worms and worm castings. We Sold to the pet stores and to the zoos for meat for the animals and for the petting section. And much much more. When we ran onto hard times this is all the money that we made. The rabbits kept a roof over her head for the whole family for several years until we got back on her feet. I started this business when I was eight and keep it gone and till I was 17. Now I am 54. I am thinking about doing it a gain.Keep making these great videos thank you for sharing.

@@singleman1986 I have done aquaponics for about 10 yrs just using KOI, goldfish, blue gill, and turtles in commiefornia. tilapia of course require heated water there are a number of fish that are edible: commercial perch, trout, catfish, etc that work well. they are cold blooded so their growth is regulated by water conditions and temperature. catfish are popular because like tilapia are detritus eaters, so easy to feed. good luck. there is a learning curve as with anything so it wouldn't hurt to work with feeder goldfish. they are inexpensive will reach 6-8" in a year.

They sold their rabbits to pet stores and individuals,and used the manure in their large garden, also with consistently great results. We have adopted 13 rabbits over the years (so far). Be prepared for a bit of competition tho. We ain't the first thinking 'outside the box'. I 'Capon' all my roosters and the Chefs just bounced MY competition out the door....LOL.

Hey here’s a way to make some money that maybe you haven’t thought of. Set up week long or weekend classes right on your homestead. It looks like you have enough space to accommodate tents or a camper or two and charge for the experience of learning homesteading it’s a great way to get some help doing things around the homestead and make some money at the same time. Of course you may have to set up an outdoor shower and out house as not to have folks in your house but wow I see a huge business opportunity. I know I would consider learning from someone who has been doing it first hand.... I live too far away to come there but would love to see videos of classes taught and things that you’d do like teaching an in person foraging video and the like.

@TheBluewaterBlonde5 жыл бұрын
The one good advice I can give you about culling rabbits is to never name your baby rabbits that will either be sold or eaten. The children understood this principal without a problem although they named all the mothers and bucks. Since we would get attached to the mothers having taken such good care of them during kindling and afterwards, we never ate them, when it was their time we gave them a decent burial with the family all in attendance.

@sandieblack48606 жыл бұрын
Hello Guys. That takes me back in time. When I was growing up we lived on a Homestead (Market garden as they are called in UK) Our first "crop" that we sold to the city folks was 2 year old manure from our barn. We only had one, sometimes 2 cows, and anywhere between 20 to 200 pigs depending what time of year it was. There was always an abundance of manure going spare, we did make sure to keep enough for ourselves to go on our own garden and greenhouse. Once people from the city found out we were selling well rotted manure they flocked to our place to buy their supply for their own garden. By that time we usually had some early rhubarb and shortly after that we had our first crop of gooseberries, and so on throughout the summer with strawberries, peas and then into the fall and winter veggies. It was such a fun time although I wasn't always convinced about that at the time, I was after all a teenager....say no more eh? Anyway, great channel, loads of good ideas and love watching you do your everyday chores. Take care and stay safe. Sandie.

@TheBluewaterBlonde5 жыл бұрын
Here in California we sold live rabbits directly to a meat processing plant, so we never actually sold rabbit meat. The meat processing plant sent a large truck loaded with rabbit cages on each side to our local feed store each week and we would take most all our baby rabbits there. They would load ten rabbits in a large gunny sack and hang the sack on a weight hook at the back of the truck. If the weight was over 50 pounds the price we received was lower. The ideal time to sell the rabbits was about two months old, thus guaranteeing a weight under 50 pounds and that they were fryer rabbits, then we received top dollar for our rabbits.

Because he was a pet rabbit, we used natural pine pellet from tractor supply which in turn could be used safely in the garden. No smell in the house with that type of pine pellets, mainly the urine was an issue. When we had too much rabbit manure, others in the community garden loved to take the free manure for their plots. Great idea to sell the extra since you have so many.

Love your videos! They are fun to watch. My mother has rabbits and I had heard the same thing. So we piled several loads into her garden and spread them out and tilled. A garden that she had used successfully for years we managed to completely kill. Grass wouldn't even grow. The droppings were mixed with straw and maybe that was the problem, but she ended up with a huge dead patch in her yard that she eventually rocked. Just a word of caution that there is too much of a good thing!
