This program is absolutely huge if you're running games that, well, aren't 5e (or otherwise don't have any easy ways to convert the map to VTT). So if you're a GM (or know one) that runs games which has old maps that the book expects the GM to redraw it anyway do them a favor and show them dungeon scrawl (and this excellent tutorial) Thanks for all the info, Bob, absolutely great video!

This is astonishingly good. I just had to put my campaign on hiatus because of some family issues, but this was EXACTLY the tool I was looking for. I love these simple style maps. I dislike heavily colored, rendered and visually complicated maps. The game happens in our heads, not on a Photoshopped game board. Thanks for this.

I appreciate this find. I started playing with Dungeon Scrawl and was just making shapes and drawing and adding random rooms. A part of it looked cool and it reminded me of an idea I've had for a puzzle dungeon that fizzled out. Anyway, I've been writing away and making additions to the map as I go. Crazy easy tool to use. I might have to scale this dungeon back though. Its easy to get carried away.

Thanks for another insightful video, Bob. You've got lots of new DMs and players - myself included - so I would like to get a video on recommended techniques to incorporate pre-made maps and other tools into our game sessions. Like, how to print Dungeon Scrawl (or other) maps on a home printer so they scale 1:1; how to use a digital screen or projector for a map; techniques for using large, multi-page maps; how to incorporate fog of war; etc. Keep up the great work!

Seriously, one of the best options in this program, it has an Isometric Mode. Most Dungeons for fantasy style games, are going to be multi layered. Here you are able to create maps with height levels. Of course it's not the 3D tile based builds, as so many newer apps feature. But, this is a cool idea.

"We have this weird thing where the hallways are split so your tokens would be oddly positioned" Thats what I really hate about certain VTTs that for some reason think the grid is this restricting thing, like these are spaces in a board game or a game of chess You don't have to stand in line with the grid, and I'm tired of pretending thats how its meant to work The grid in my mind has always been a guideline. Every part of the game speaks in distance, the grid is meant to mark distance You can stand wherever the heck you want, the grid is jus there to give a reference for how far away something is or how big a space is If I'm in a hallway, just because the grid doesn't line up with the hall, I can still see those lines drawn perprendicular to teh wall that tell me every 5 foot distance that makes up the hallway If VTTs stop being dumb about it, and let us place our tokens wherever we want, there would be no problem with going off grid

How are you not using VTT Enhancement Suite with Roll20?!? Among other things it would make re-scaling the imported map easier. I also dont see the Beyond20 extension? I consider these essential to my campaign, and each time I've found them, I wish I did so weeks earlier haha
@BobWorldBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Never heard of the ES, and from a quick search, it looks like chrome no longer supports it? As for the DB extension, yeah I feel like I must be missing something because I know a lot of people use it, but it seems like Roll20 can already do all the things D&D Beyond does with character sheets. At least from the DM perspective, I can say that the experience seems identical for my players who use the extension and my players who just use roll20. If this is something that can improve the game for them, let me know!
@maxparmentier40844 жыл бұрын
@@BobWorldBuilder Oh yea, I use ES in firefox, it gives a lot of QOL enhancements for the DM (better page menu, bulk macros, character macro generator, and import/export of characters because I was merging two games) and for beyond20, I have more content purchased in DDB so it's easier for my players to create a character there to have all the options and I dont need to rebuy on roll20, I also prefer the layout and the automation of DDB's character sheets for tracking spell slots and rest recovery, but it does mean they are going back and forth between windows during play
