As a chef at Fuddruckers, I think we should have ranked higher. Not because I'm loyal to the company cuz I'm not. But as a chef preparing ur food, we do in fact do a lot of work to make sure it's perfect. At my location at least, we are not afraid to dispose of burgers we wouldn't eat ourselves. The only down side is the wait time. Good food takes time.

Hardee’s Frisco Burger! You can even order a “Monster Burger”. Pure meat and cheese and bacon with some mayonnaise to slow your heart down to about 3 beats a minute! Wonderful!

Best burger I ever had was in Driggs, Idaho on the way to Targhee ski resort. It was called a Teton burger after the local mountain range. It was huge with 3/4 pound beef pattie, bacon and all the fresh trimmings. Add their famous onion rings and a pitcher of beer and you were in burger heaven. The restaurant was called O'Roarkes.

In & Out patties are rather small. So if you order the single patty it's hard to really taste the meat very much. But if you order the secret menus 3 x 3 it's a great tasting burger. I rate it #2 in my book. My #1 is the big and full patted 5 Guys. I love them with toppings like grilled onions and mushrooms for free. It just can't be beat. About half of the places we don't have here so I don't know about them.

We have Hardee's here in the South...good burgers, but they have terrible customer service, and always have. Takes forever to get your food, and the personnel are rude...and that's been my experience with every Hardee's I've been to. BK all the way. Their Impossible Burger is great, too...and fantastic onion rings.

WHATABURGER!...we have In and Out and Whataburger here in San Antonio. I tried In and Out a few months ago and it wasn't bad but it did not stand out either. Can't figure out what the big deal is. I like Whataburger's burger size. I like their mustard...good mustard is important and I also like their lettuce, tomato, and onions because they are fresh and crisp and cold. when you bite into them the vegetables make a crisp sound and not soggy or soft...YUM!

Though Burger King hasn't offered it lately, their A1 Ultimate Cheeseburger has been a favorite. BK does offer seemingly endless variations of their two-patty, Whopper-inspired burgers and most of those appeal to me. During the spring and fall surf fishing season on the New Jersey shore it's my treat to get a Bacon King or a semi-custom Double Whopper after actively fishing for seven hours or more.

The best fast food hamburger is Harvey's because they charbroil the patty and you get to choose from fresh toppings consisting of: tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, onions, hot peppers, jalapeno peppers, cucumbers, spinach and black olives. Then you have the condiments: Ketchup, Mustard, Relish, Mayo, hot sauce, bbq sauce, chipotle, garlic mayo, Harv sauce, Bacon mayo, ranch, sweet chili Thai, Greek dressing and tartar sauce. Plus you make the burger how you want it. I usually call for double heavy which means 6 pickles, 4 tomatoes, 3 tablespoons of onions, 2 handfuls of lettuce, 4 tablespoons of hot and jalapeno peppers and 1 swirl of hot sauce, bbq, bacon mayo, chipotle sauces.

It's a matter of Burgerking using artificially enhanced ingredients perhaps of lower quality. Also the North American consumption of sodium are well over two to three times the recommended limit so it very much is a concern. Burgers can be made and are made with much lower sodium, the ingredients just have to be fresher rather than chemically preserved. It's more a matter of poor logistics.

It was actually really good..but once I left there, I never once thought about mustard on a burger. Lol. Maybe one day I'll try to recreate it. I just don't recall if it was yellow or spicy brown. What do you suggest?

I honestly think 5 guys makes better burgers than in n out their buns taste better than in n outs, the taste of the patty is much juicer on a 5 guys burger and you have more options overall

I don't even know if they are still in business or not, because I have not seen one for years now, but the best cheeseburger (from a restaurant) I can remember having was at Ruby Tuesdays. My friends and I hit it pretty hard the night before, so we were all badly hungover when we went there. I told them that I did not want anything but water and a place to die, but they ordered a burger & fries for me anyhow. I really did not want to eat anything, but they insisted so I tried a bite. That was the best cheeseburger, that I can remember, from a chain restaurant. It was in the Chapel Hills Mall in Colorado Springs, which is incredible because I never thought I'd ever get a good burger in the Springs. They were hard to come by for sure. Now don't say that it tasted good because I was hungover. Nothing ever tasted good when I was hungover, but that burger surprised me. There are several people on here calling for Whataburger to be rated high on this list. I am from Texas. I live in Texas now, but in my area the only thing good about Whataburger is that they are open all night. When I first moved back here, in 2002, I tried Whataburger restaurants in several towns. I remember them being good back in the 1970's and 1980's, but they are mediocre at best, here, now. I hope the Whataburgers in and around Corpus, East and South Texas are still good, but in West Texas they are not.

Whataburger was much better 40 years ago. However , as they expanded their chain , the quality diminished. They started in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

When I was at school in the Fall of 1959 in Los Angeles, there was a burger joint about a mile from my house that was mentioned in Playboy. I went there one night to see. The place was a little wagon about 8x14 or so, and the joint was jumpin'. Hard to get a parking place on the corner lot where they were. It was the only time that I went there in two years at school. No big deal.

Cookout burgers are hands down the best fast food burger. There's a burger joint here in Fayetteville NC called Hot Diggity Dog that makes an excellent burger as well as real good all beef hot dogs, but as far as I know, they're only local. Another place to get a great burger is from The Fried Turkey Sandwich Shop but I'm not sure if they have restaurants outside of eastern NC.

I had a college class where we review retail. I bought a burger from Wendy’s and the picture on the store front window was loaded with lettuce and a tomato slice. I opened the burger and it had a 3” X 3” piece of flat lettuce. I actually thought they gave me the wrong burger because it looked nothing like the burger they were advertising. I brought it back in and the girl said that was the correct burger. I’ve never bought a burger at Wendy’s since. They do have awesome frosty’s. I do agree with your #1 choice!
