I don't know how I ever played any flying, space or vehicle sim without it. Arma 3, DCS, ED, American Truck Sim, I can't play any off them without my Track IR now. I've got neck injuries so some small tweaks in Track IR and your done. Hat clip is the best I reckon. Thanks for the vids mate.

I've been a trackir user since version 3 once you get it setup works best in a not so bright room its really awesome

On my third Track IR its simple its plug and play for the most part. I tried a camera head tracker and while they have gotten better you have to constantly feddle with them for every game you use them with. So after trying them all I went back to Track IR. Life is good again

Not sure how it works with TrackIR, but in VR, you will get drift in ED. Make sure to program a button for "Reset HMD", to center everything when you first start the game, and every once in a while if it drifts. Another bonus of using the TrackIR is you get rid of the terrible camera movement in Elite when you are turning, boosting, etc, so you can still see your console! It's one of the reasons I went with VR. Excellent review, Sir! Have a great day! o7

Loved my TrackIR Pro for Arma games. Modded it to have a Duracell usb battery pack that I could attach to the headset to reduce the extra wire being something that could break in time. Takes some time to learn about the settings and values but was great in Elite Dangerous as well. Still got mines even though I bought the VIVE headset some years ago for Elite :) There was a very helpful guy on the Elite Forums a long time back that had a profile that would allow it to easily snap to the panels and keep them in still while you went through the tabs. One thing to be aware of is that the ankle joint for the LED clip where the LEDS can rotate around is a weak point that can has busted on a lot of people over time. I had paid someone to 3D print me replacement parts for me to fix that issue. I hope they have sorted that issue by now.

I had TrackIR for years, but lack of software updates and any real support is letting it down these days. The center drift issue has always been there, and I think they could fix that but the last update of their software was in 2016 or something like that. I switched to the Tobii Eyetracker 5. It is a vast improvement over the TrackIR, it keeps center really well even when you go out of the tracking view and it looses tracking, when you get back into view it retains the center really well. It also does not require you to wear anything on your head, which is perfect for those of us who doesn't use headphones.

I love head tracking, especially on Elite. I use the DELANCLIP. Very reasonable price in comparison to most other head tracking. Both wired and wireless available. You don't need to spend much money to have head tracking. Respect

I used one of those when I played Elite when I wasn't using my VR headset. I guess maybe up to 1000 hours of time using it. It worked great for me. I preferred the Pro LED assembly over the reflectors. I seemed to get smoother tracking with it. And I could never turn my head far enough with a 3 monitor setup that it would lose track. Just a couple of zip ties to strap the cord to my headset cord and it was good to go. The only issue I had with it was that if I had the LED assembly too close to my face I would reach up to scratch something once in a while and bump it resulting in having to use the Reset HMD in Elite. So I usually adjusted it so that it stuck straight out from my head and there was less chance me bumping it. I preferred to base my settings off of the 1:1 setting because that little "bump" when the others lock on center really bothered me since it felt "artificial". Overall, I felt it was a great addition to my gaming rig. I am not playing anything currently that can use it so when I took apart my cockpit after Frontier pissed me off (to declutter the desk) I removed the tracker as well. But it will make its return when I play something else that can benefit from it. I read some reviews that I think disrespected the TrackIR by calling it "old technology" and such but I think it is a really awesome piece of kit for a poor man's gaming rig. It gave a good sense of immersion in the game and I would certainly recommend it. Simple to use and once you have it dialed in to your preferences you will love it. It is not a Tobii and does not try to pretend to be. It is just an easy to use system that works as advertised.

I've had trackIR for awhile now, te eliminate the use of cables when using the led clip I wired it myself into a 9v battery holder taped onto my headset with the LED clip powered by that directly, the camera sensor sits atop my screen and with my wireless headset I've eliminated several cables, it works very well like this.

I just use the reflector clip that goes on any hat and there is virtually no difference in performance and no wires hanging off your head.

For those wanting HTing but unwilling or unable to invest in the somewhat hefty TrackIR price. Another, more accurate alternative to the cheaper Webcam systems, is the old EDTracker inertial head tracker that was developed as an open source project by members of the ED community. It had basically 2 versions, a wired on and a wireless ver, both could be built DIY as kits or purchased pre-assembled, and use inertial sensors (accelerometers) like the ones in your phone, to very accurately track head movement. Also, as it piggybacked basic mouse inputs it has a wide range of compatibility with many other games and Apps, ARMA, SC, any flight sim or FPS game with "freelook" button basically. I even used mine a few times in 3D Anim software such as SoftImage and Maya. Not sure what happened to the site the project used to use, but plans are easy to obtain (cause open source) and the pre-built units themselves are sometimes for sale on Ebay, or maker/builder/crafting type sites. They have very good granularity in their tracking and are CHEAP $50-$70 or even less, and are self contained no Cam needed, no LEDS, no darkened room, etc ect, just a tiny box you attach to your headphones or a spare baseball cap. hope this helps

I would love my Monitor to also move when moving my head, that would make it even more immersive. Right now if I move my head I only can see part of the Monitor. That breaks the Immersion for me.

@Blowfeld20k Жыл бұрын
@@gargamosch Because, no offence, but you are failing to understand how the basic setup for a HT should work. You should set your HT rotation so that its max extent is reached at for left and right about the point where your nose is pointing directly at the left or right bezel of your monitor. For the pitch you can get away with wider pitch angles as its easy to look down your nose and past your eyebrows. HT's should not be set up to have even close to a 1:1 degrees of rotation, obviously, as even a small head rotation ingame, would result in the user being forced to look 90 degrees from the monitor.

I still don't get the idea of head tracking w/o a vr headset, which should have it's own viewpoint tracking. You turn your head, but your monitor stays where it's at, so wtf are you looking at? With the exception of maybe using iris tracking for ui interactions? Is that to a point it's usable yet? It just seems like a one two punch of a gimmick and a money sink.
@caaront Жыл бұрын
As you move your head with default settings 5 degrees the Track IR moves your head about 30 degrees or so in the game and you can adjust how little or how much you want to move your head and if you want a dead zone and such. You can move your head 15 degrees and the view in the game move 270 degrees and such. So you are never looking off to the side or up at the ceiling, or down at your crotch.

View it like a "look/camera" hat you can adjust sensitivity on, whilst leaving your thumbs available for other stuff. For air combat without VR it's a massive boon.

While the track clip works fine, there's a very noticeable difference in smoothness when using the PRO Clip that gives you more accurate tracking with a higher refresh rate. If you can best the very minor inconvenience of the thin extra wire, I'd highly recommend using the Pro instead. It's also good to remember that TracIR V5 was released in 2009, and both the hard- and software have remained mostly unchanged. If anyone wants to see a more detailed and in-depth review on the V5, @dslyecxi made a great video on it all the way back in 2009. You can also find his custom profile from the link in the description, that I've also been using for 10 years without a need to make any changes..

if you're looking over your shoulder you can't see the screen, so what's the point? These things suck compared to just VR. Having monitors all around you, you won't NEED one of these things anyway. I just never understood why people use these other than "the game doesn't offer VR". Since elite offers VR, just use VR. FOIP doesn't work unless you're looking straight ahead at your camera anyway. Tobi tracking is totally broken in SC anyway. Its constantly not working for members in my org. They're always complaining about how it stops tracking all the time. I don't have one of these and i really don't miss it. The only advantage you have in SC is that the tracker allows you to look and get a missile lock on someone behind you or beside you which you can't do normally without using Z look.

That’s not how it works. You adjust your virtual head to move further then your actual head movement, so you don’t have to look beyond the edge of your display to see behind you. It is actually very intuitive for those that aren’t ready for VR. Here’s a vid I made showing how my virtual head moves compared to my heads actual movement. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4a9ZKuqmruYapo This is trackir used in game… kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2Srgn-nmKqIjbc
