ASAFA POWELL how could you make such a BIG ERROR to say Jamaica first won the Olympics in 1996 by virtue of Donavan Bailey being Jamaican born. If we all should embrace that narrative, then you would have disrespected Linford Christie who won Olympic gold in 1992. Christie is Jamaican born. So Jamaica first "won Olympic gold" in 1992. In fact, Jamaica first won Olympic Gold in 1988, with Jamaican born Ben Johnson...albeit he was later disqualified attributed to drug scandal. (1) Ben Johnson Seoul 1988 Olympic 100 m Gold - Jamaican born...(2) Linford Christie Barcelona 1992 Olympic 100 m Gold - Jamaican born...(3) Donavan Bailey Atlanta 1996 Olympic 100 m Gold - Jamaican born...(4) Usain Bolt Beijing 2008 Olympic 100 m Gold - Jamaican born.

Donovan wasn't afraid of the Americans and the world. He wasn't afraid to speak his mind. And people take it like he has an attitude. I was 15 years old when Bailey won in 1996. I Still remember that day like it was yesterday one of the most iconic 100m finals in Olympic history. That roar at the end was spectacular. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 🔥 🔥🔥 🙏🏿👊🏿👍🏿

This is a great interview. As a Jamaican, I was hoping that Bailey would drop Canada and run for Jamaica. And when it didn't work out, I was extremely disappointed. The reason for my wish was the treatment of Ben Johnson. I was not condoning what Ben was accused of. But the racism in the media and society in general.

Why was Mrs Powell allowed to skip over the period in which Donovan switched from Knox to become a professional? What high school he went to in Canada? How did continue to keep the fire burning after settling in Canada? What University? Did he graduate and what degrees does he have? How did he end up at LSU? What pushed (caused) him to go pro? This entire period remains unanswered. Great information nevertheless, and Donovan is definitely needed in an Executive position in the sport. Great guest!!!
@dwightspence357121 күн бұрын
Donovan Bailey first attend, Mount Olivet Primary School, his former teacher Claris Lambert recounting that "He showed his athletic skills from grade one. He always came first in races." Before going to Canada, Bailey competed for one year at ISSA Champs for Knox College in Manchester, Jamaica. Bailey immigrated to Canada at age 12 and played basketball before graduating from Queen Elizabeth Park High School in Oakville, Ontario. Bailey was exceptionally fast as well, clocking 10.65 seconds in the 100m at the age of 16. However, his main interest was in basketball. After graduating in June 1984, Bailey attended Sheridan College, for which he played basketball during the 1986-1987 school year. He graduated from Sheridan with a degree in Business Administration.

Donovan always win the 100m. We entered Knox the same year and ended up in the same house. I remember he went to Champs but came remember what his performance was like there. He left after the 7th grade or after the first term of 8th grade and then the next time I heard about him was when he won the World Champs in 1995. Really proud of what he has achieved.
