Dear Stephen. I follow you for many months on youtube and class101. It is always a pleasure to see you drawing. You are a very inspiring person. Thanks for sharing so much with others.

That concave/reverse angle at the bottom of the feature is extremely complex. Having the experience in your toolbox saved you there and the result is impressive! Thanks Stephen!

I drew this twice before, in pencil and in ink for Instagram, so I e studied that bit before. 😉

Thank you for also posting the photo you use as a separate file. This is so helpful and thoughtful.

I really love this one, the curves really compliment the lines of the stone

I agree, really interesting😀

A great exercise for sure! If you are looking for topic suggestions, may I suggest how to "correct" lens distortions? The more extreme the distortion, the harder it is to estimate proportions at various heights. Do you take the width of a structure at eye-level or that of the lowest point in the picture as the base width? I have been struggling with this technical point without finding any useful tips. As always, thank you very much for you first class channel!

Thanks. It’s the widths at eye level which are unaffected by the lens distortion. 😀

Thank you for all of your hard work. Your channel is great. Would you please draw a pier? The framing under a pier gets very busy when viewed from the beach at an angle. It would be great to see how you interpret.

My pleasure. Here’s a link to a wharf video (as we call piers) I made kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYG8c6icq9ysnq8si=8_ClbmYAnwtnA1CX 😀

thank you, stephen. I thought that was excellent. following advice from one of your previous videos, I have started drawing from the inside out sitting in the street in oatlands in Tasmania trying to draw an old timber house. I started with a central window working out but found it very difficult to judge the distance between the surrounding windows upright doors, etc , it seems easier but it's more fun drawing outdoors. Any suggestions would be welcome regards rick.

It sounds like you’re exploring it really well. Keep concentrating on proportions and scale. It gets easier. 😀

hey this really helped me, but one thing i dont think is get is how do i find the horizon line on the reference?
@stephentraversartАй бұрын
The horizon line (or eye level as i prefer to call it) is where the angled lines on each side of the corner appear as a straight one. There doesn't have to be an actual line there, but it will be between the where the angles change direction. In this photo eye level is either at the very base of the photo or cropped out.😀

Should I try this as a beginner?
@stephentraversartАй бұрын
Why not? Then you’ll know if it’s a good starting level or a bit too advanced. Experimenting is great to help us decide things we’re not sure about. Have fun.

Great video and quite helpful. I'm just getting back in to drawing after many years break. What is confusing me is the first 2 lines (therefore the rest of the work) seem angled slightly different to me when I'm looking at the photo but the angle matches your pen and what you draw. Why does the angle seem so different visually? Is it that I just haven't retrained my eye yet or is there something else affecting this? I'm wondering if this might be why I've been struggling to draw architectural buildings and what I can do to help with this. Any advice?
@richardstillman5023Ай бұрын
that should read easier from a photograph!
@stephentraversartАй бұрын
Photos have already transformed the image from 3D to 2D which is one of the reasons it’s easier to draw from them. 😀
