Loved the technique. My Grandmother a native of SW Florida had acres of every fruit species & florals you could grow in that tropical climate. She used any water from the final step to make a wonderful tea. In today's trends you could use it in salad dressings, smoothies..just don't pour it on your plants because it's packed full of antioxidants & vitamins. She made passion fruit teas & jam/sauces for ice cream or vanilla pannacota. Mango sorbet, mango jam/sauces. Guava jam was my favorite & Guava tea. There were Mulberry, homegrown strawberries & acres of citrus groves. Key lime cake or pie, breads, cookies. Thomas Edison was a neighbor & they traded Orchids & stories. I miss her & the paradise she created from scratch to support her six children following my Grandfathers early death. She was an amazing woman. She'd.take me wading thru the Everglades Cypress Swamps looking for wild orchids, staghorn ferns, & air plants. She & her second husband would make furniture from Cypress knees that was so beautiful. Thanks for triggering those memories.

What a great story. Your mother was an amazing woman. Thank you for telling your story and sharing the other information of what you can do with the pomegranate water. The gentleman that provided this video mentioned not to waste the left over water and to use it to water your plants. I’m sure you caught that in the video, but I was very impressed with his recommendation. I try to read a few replies and I’m glad I got to read yours. What a great life you had and now you can do those things with your children and grandchildren too. ❤️

Love your video, thank you so very much. But, what's next with the erols? Do you eat them or cook them? As a child in high school I used to just cut them and put the seeds in my mouth and basically suck out the juice and then spit the seeds out is that the proper way of eating them? Thank you so much your video is fantastic I'm running to the store today to get some pomegranates. A true Farmer you are basically using wastewater for your plants and composting exactly what I do here in Florida. You made me smile you're my favorite farmer J thanks.

I tried this last night and it worked pretty well. My pomegranate sections weren't nearly as well defined, so it was more time intensive. But, much easier than other methods. A large deep bowl is key to keeping the mess confined.
@leeachkar47473 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That was awesome. I've seen other videos that show this sort of method but sometimes seem to cut off the cap at the other end (more messy) and most importantly you explained how - WHERE- to score the skin so as not to cut through the middle of the "pod" which holds the kernels of the fruit. In other words, that beginning part explaining the anatomy of the pomegranate was very helpful. Great tutorial video.
@jimbarron99395 жыл бұрын
Absolutely amazing! I thought I had it down pretty good and was doing pretty much what you did right up to the point where you used the spoon. But past that point I used considerable time manipulating the seeds on out. If you reverse the compound curvature (turn the spheroid inside out, manipulation goes pretty fast but not remotely as fast as just hitting it with a spoon! I suspect that the success of hitting with a spoon to knock them all the way out is dependent on the right stage of ripeness but that's what you really want to get anyway. What I've always done to reduce the price is to wait until the price is minimal not because they're already too ripe, but because there are so many on the market and then buy a couple of cases, process them as you've done, and freeze it. Farmer's markets or a good Chinese markets have been the best places to get good prices in my area. You should get a discount by buying them by the case. Thanks for the excellent demonstration!
@jimbarron99392 жыл бұрын
I freeze them whole. Some of the best nutrition is in the seeds I kind of imagine why anyone would just want to squeeze out the juice.

Thank you. Pomegranates were mysteries to me. I am making a winter salad tomorrow and it is clear that the pomegranate seeds are the star of it. Side note: only a fan of the fruit in it's original state. Their juice reminds me of an odd cranberry juice...I'm so glad my kids aren't turned of by the crunchy white inner seeds. I know it's late, but I really liked your video. When I was just a sprout back in the seventies, I lived in Anaheim CA. There was a little Farmer's market across from my apartment. I became addicted to pomegranates. Back then, they were $.49/ea.

The trick to staying clean is to open the pomegranate in a bowl of cold water. The seeds sink and the skin floats....

Wow! I really didn't know about that. Thanks

Brilliant suggestion, which I will try while dissecting a pomegranate for dessert later this evening!

I’ve always done that too! Best way to avoid spatters and staining clothes.

Thank you so much. I used to do it so haphazardly although it was part of the ritual for me the joy of uncovering segment after segment of the beautiful jewel like fruits was intense: an aesthetic pleasure as well as the anticipation of the taste! However now I am old with arthritic hands it is no longer feasible to stay haphazard but your method has the beauty of orderliness and is a huge improvement.

Thank you! Your video is the most helpful and most encouraging that I found. Also, I like that you inserted reminders to use every part of the fruit! From food to juice to compost....

Thanks for the video. I just spent 30 minutes the hard way manually doing 3 pomegranates. I will try this next time. I see why the juice is worth the hassle. Amazing taste in a masticating juice served over crushed ice.

Yes! Excellent technique! Among the best and most healthy fruits ever! I drink 100% pomegranate juice the rest of the year, but delight when I can have fresh.

Excellent video. Probably the most difficult fruit to peel the right way.
