34 years later. The ST "E" game I wanted to play. So cool you ran it on real hardware. GG's!

I felt I had to bring out the real hardware for this one! 😁

It's wonderful that someone in 2024 stilll loves the ST(E) by making new games and demos

Yeah, seems like the scene is picking up momentum right now!
@AmbersKnight28 күн бұрын
It does look like WEC Le Mans, which as far as I know never got a release on the ST and Amiga. I would love to see this being ported to the Amiga as it looks like a solid racer.
@gearsofgames28 күн бұрын
I think that should be possible, I believe Jonathan just released the source code for the game....

It's nice to see the STe get some love. In the right hands and with the right tools, the STe is a very capable machine.

It is and it was such a shame that hardly any games used the extra juice back in the day...

@@gearsofgames Imagine if Atari could have released the original ST in 1985 with the hardware that the STe got. It would really have given the Amiga a run for its money as a games machine.

Kudos to all the talented people who keep on creating games for platforms that have long been obsolete. It shows a lot of love for the computer or console. I never owned a STe, but used to own a 520 STFM. Hard to imagine the original ST will turn 40 next year. Where did the time go?

There's some room for fine-tuning for sure, but maybe someone will continue development, since source has been released...

Technically impressive, but seems a bit of a shame how you just want to go fast but the game throws so many curves at you that you immediately crash.

'Just one more attempt..' lol, that's a good sign that you were getting the hang of it :D Would be great with keyboard controls and a bit more variety but as it stands it's a brilliant example of what can be achieved on the STE! And yeah you need to put a link to the game! :P

Lovely! GoG, before the turns, release of the accelerator, brake a little bit if needed. On the straights, floor it. 😉

I was doing to the opposite now! 😉 I just found it pretty hard to judge speed and I kept forgetting to look at the speed. But I think I can get used to it, given that it's not a slideshow! 😁

@gearsofgames28 күн бұрын
I couldn't get it to run from HD. The game needs to be Auto booted to start up. But maybe that is possible to do on a HD, not quite sure and I didn't try it. Make an Auto folder on the root of your HD and copy the files from the disk accordingly. Might work or maybe there is another way to make this happen, not super good at this, does anyone else know?

Great game, very smooth, the speed sense is amazing, Jonathan worked hard in each detail. I need to get more used to the controls to get far in the gameplay, it’s not easy to control with that speed, changelling game.
@DavePoo228 күн бұрын
This game is fast! I mean really, it said you were going 299 Mph, perhaps that should have been 299 Kph?
@gearsofgames28 күн бұрын
Yeah, that sounds a bit more reasonable, when you point it out! 😁
@Yesterzine27 күн бұрын
Some and some, those cars could hit over 250 in reality. With all those turns you’re right though.

Chase HQ and WEC Le Mans have relief, Chase HQ also has tunnels. Faster is smoother but it's engine is much more limited.

You know I never actually saw an advertisement for an Atari ste. I know they weren't cheap but were they really that much more money? I know the mega STE was ridiculously overpriced at around $1,800 but that was pushed to a business market for desktop publishing and honestly at that price it would have been a good deal. Kind of pointless though because I don't think any software actually used the blitter though. But back in the day you could build a decent desktop publishing workflow often Atari ST for around 6 grand versus 20 or 30,000 for a equivalent Macintosh or IBM system

Because they prioritised steady 50 fps and I'm afraid there is no room for anything else. Such a frame rate was rarely reached with this kind of racing games on 16 bit home machines.
@gearsofgames28 күн бұрын
Yeah, Jonathan was all about a rock steady 50 fps and as @amerigocosta7452 wrote there's no more juice left in the box. But he has recently released the source code and maybe there is room for further optimization. If I remember correctly he said he wrote the game in C and Assembler...
