How did you get the 128k version, I got the 48k version when I bought it, would be interesting if 128k also comes with a sound?
@gearsofgames13 сағат бұрын
I believe they updated the 48K version to include 128K sound effects, so as far as I know there isn't a dedicated 128K version. Can't you try and download it again and then you should hopefully get the updated version with 128 sound...

Speaking as someone who's love of video games really started with the Donkey Kong arcade game, I'd owned so many disappointing Donkey Kong games as a kid. The Atari 2600 springs to mind but also Kong (by Ocean) on the speccy. This version? My god, I cannot believe this IS even the spectrum and the 48K speccy to boot. Unless you grew up with the Spectrum and knew it's limitations you just cannot appreciate what an amazing achievement this is!

The original Arcade version (Japan) has the stages in the order that this Spectrum version has them. The USA version had the stages in an arse faced order with the end (stage 4) as stage 2 and stage 3 goes to stage 5 which is stage 1 but harder.
@gearsofgames19 сағат бұрын
I think this is the same order as the EU version I played as a kid.

@@gearsofgames the Japan version was released in Australia and Eu and several others. America thinks their version is the original. Lol
@thorstenguenther18 сағат бұрын
Yep, the level sequence in the US weirdly was 1, 4, 1, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.. Which also explains why level 2 is missing from so many conversions.

Hi, @gearsofgames, nice video!! but I think you still need some more practive :D One detail: you say "Creator: Lukas Rachunek, Publisher: Artonapilos", but Lukas and Artonapilos are the same person, he is the programmer. And the publisher is Bubu (me), but anyway, very funny video, and... how high can you get now? 🤩 🦍
@gearsofgamesКүн бұрын
Yeah, I do need more practice for sure! 😁 But I am pretty pleased that I got through all levels on my first short session. The information I found on SPC was a bit conflicting, so I messed up the credits, sorry. Thanks for clearing it up! And glad you enjoyed the video! The game is truly awesome! The Speccy has needed a good DK conversion for ages now! 😁

I played the Amiga version of this game when I was a kid. It had potential, but the controls just plain suck.
@gearsofgamesКүн бұрын
Yeah, it's a shame! Because there is an interesting atmosphere in the game!
@RobobTheGreatКүн бұрын
@@gearsofgames Yeah. Even with better controls, it would still have been a very difficult game, but it might be less obscure and more fondly remembered today if those better controls had made it fun to play. You can make a 2-D platformer really hard, but then the player has to feel comfortable controlling the playable character to actually feel like they've got a fighting chance.

Some things i partially remember. The chicken lays three eggs,starting with the golden egg. I think you can throw two of them down the well? Use the disguise to get into the castle, you have to find out which disguise to wear first and I can't remember how you find out....read the newspaper or talk to a character? The monster is turned into a teddy bear with a spell. I have the game on the Amstrad an st, I prefer the Amstrad version although it's nice that the characters move around and you see the disguises on the ST version.

Thanks for the review! :D Wish I knew about this game back in the day (or even saw it to be able to know about it! The whole 'software in stores' story back then was almost non existent in the UK sadly). I did though love the earlier games Finders Keepers and Spellbound (I played Spellbound first I think), Spellbound was one of my very favourite and well recalled Spectrum games. I got fairly far in the game (and really recall the lift and the Crystal ball), but it was incredibly frustrating to start from scratch each time + the way the player energy just runs down from moving alone (but was still fascinating to me back then).
