I think the terminal speed decides whether you're forced to use a parachute. Any quick time is going to have a high speed crossing the line. A street legal car could need a chute. I'm not sure if adding a chute makes it not legal on the road anymore, though.

Well first of all a steeper gear actually takes away top end speed. With boosted applications you would actually rather have a smaller gear because you want to actually move instead of spin. Look at what both cars just ran E.T. wise. In drag racing it's all about how quick not how fast. The supercharge cars are a instant response and run the first 60' quite a bit faster than the turbo cars do as their is a slight lag before full boost comes into effect as can be seen in this race. They covered the quarter mile within 1 hundred of a second of each other but the turbo car had to run 9 MPH faster on the top end in order to make up the time advantage the super charged car had in the first 60'. If the turbo car could run the first 60' as fast as the supercharged car then it would E.T. much better than the supercharged car. As it is with each having a weakness the end results is their E.T. virtually balances out at the finish line. Frankie Taylor usually runs 1/8th mile which supercharge cars have a advantage over the turbo cars in 1/8th mile because they accelerate harder on the front end of the drag strip. In this case with another 1/8th mile to cover that turbo starts strutting all that high end horsepower and has the advantage on the back half of the quarter mile. There again it all equals out to a very close race.

Top Fuel is very governed by rules dictating engine displacement, blower size, blower overdrive, throttle plate total area, head specs, no electronic engine management and more other rules then you can shake a stick at. A turbo is not legal, so this is why we have never seen a nitro turbo power plant. I fore one would love to see a true unlimited class, but safety and insurance becomes a huge issue.

Blowers are cool and work quiet well on the Dyno but if you can't keep the wheels from smoking what good are they?! I love the Turbo as they run consistent and give so much more Control. I never thought I would like a turbo but when I saw what it does with Propane it blew my mind and gave me astounding horsepower and torque on my V W rail. I ran my 2300 cc engine all summer and with no break downs and when I tore it down everything looked as clean as the day I built it. Summer of 2016 I am only going to change oil filters after every event just to see how it does. I am also putting a turbo on my dodge pick up with a propane set up. You can't beat 108 octane right out of the bottle! Oops, I got off track......Congratulations on your Record and great running set up!!!

+john dillinger There are many different types of racing transmissions, they can use different functions from centrifugal floaters that use engine RPM to engage a different amount of clutches, to air shifted liberty's that are managed by on board computers, all the way to multi-lever lencos that all you have to do is pull each lever down, no clutch, throttle pinned. It is crazy they range from 2k to 15k maybe even more.

How is it possible that so many people aren't wearing earplugs while the cars are staging? I see a lot of people using their fingers during the burnouts, but nothing after that. Am I missing something?

Why are final speeds displayed (e.g. 272.5 mile/hr or 438.46 km/hr) less than those from calculation? Is there anything wrong? Or are the final speeds calculated by other formula ? Example: s (distance) = 0.402 kilometers (1/4 mile) t (time measured in this example) = 5.46 seconds v (final speed) =? by using 2 equations; v = u + at............................(1) s = ut + 0.5 at^2.................(2) from starting point u = 0 then we get; a = 26.97 m/s^2 and v = 147.25 m/s or 530.11 km/hr or 329.47 mile/hr

Accelaration is not constant, and if these cars are manual "I highly doubt it" then you have shifting times, even automatics take time to shift.

Samanya Theppabutra Becouse your calculation is bad. Average run speed in this case is slightly above 265km/h, remeber that acceleration is decreasing in the function of speed, so ending speed of 438,46km/h is very likely.

Samanya Theppabutra Mathematical formulas that you choose are not apply in this case.Note that max speed from your calculation is exactly 2 times the average spped of the run. As you know if the car hit 60mph in 5 sec, that's dosen't mean the same car hit 120 mph in 10s. Mathematical formulas that you use based on this: initial speed=0km/h, average speed=265,055km/h, so max speed must be 2x average=530,11km/h, but acceleration of this car is not constans! Try to do test in real life with your car, then compare measurements with your calculation. You (and I also) can't do good calculation becouse lack of data, you need much more than time, and speed.

Does anyone knows how much does this project car costs? It's a bit strange that there's not much spectators, I'd die to see that. Hopefully one day ill be able to see drag strip and a drag car live ! I do like circuit racing more, but i absolutely have much love and respect this sport, from how much effort these guys need to take to build this kind of a car, to how fast it runs, and how hard it is to even drive this thing, hell, you must be a professional driver to take this or actually any high HP car down the line.
