Fresh Bagels this is not accurate
@MichaelDavis-zu2ko
@MichaelDavis-zu2ko 4 жыл бұрын
@Fresh Bagels Well that would be true if the acceleration is constant, and you might be close to right about that. It would be interesting to see practical data on the car's speed over time during a run like this. Normal cars accelerate much more quickly at lower speeds than higher speeds if their acceleration is limited by power rather than traction. In that case, the downforce has no significance for the car's forward acceleration. Cars like this one are wildly overpowered at lower speeds and are therefore limited by traction rather than power. So the increased downforce at higher speeds would significantly change the way they are able to accelerate. To put the importance of downforce on a car like this into perspective, some funny cars are capable of producing over 6000 lb of aerodynamic downforce. Thus, some funny cars can produce about 3 times the total downward force near top speed than when they are stationary! (funny cars must weigh at least 2575 lb) But, of course, their mass does not change (except for fuel burn). Since total downward force is directly related to traction, just imagine how large of an effect this will have on the amount of usable power for a car when it is traction limited.
@zlegend9628

If you haven't seen these cars in person, allow me to give a short description. Your eyeballs vibrate inside the socket making it hard to see. You can have earplugs, and your fingers holding the earplugs in tighter, and it still rattles your whole brain and is LOUD. The sensation in your body, is like grabbing hold of an electric fence.

Funny cars can go even quicker. I swear Robert Hight has gone .888 or so. I know either Leah Pritchett or Brittany Force has gone faster than .818 in a Top Fuel dragster which is the fastest 60 foot of them all, not counting the old now-banned solid booster rocket dragsters. Kitty O'Neil went 3.22 at 403 for 1/4 mile on salt back in 1977 in one of those but the fastest on a track is Sammy in 1984 at 3.58 at 363 isch.
