Hey, thank you for the video. Could you help me in solving these questions? 1. Find the LCM for 3,18,21 2. Find the LCM for 9,13,26 I can't get it by doing your shortcut method. If possible do a video on this. It would be extremely helpful for me.
@FastandEasyMaths2 жыл бұрын
For the first one largest number is 21 and when you multiply it with six you get 126 which is divisible by 18 and 3 For the second one largest is 26 and since nothing is common between 9 and 26 your LCM will be 26 × 9 = 234

TLDW: LCM: Take the highest number, check is it a multiple of the other number/s. If it is, the LCM is the highest number. Non multiple method: Find the highest number, check is it a multiple of the other number/s, if not, multiply the highest number by 2, then check is multipled number a multiple of the other number/s. If it is, the LCM is the multiplied number. If still doesn’t work: cancel out the multiplication, and multiply the highest number by 3 then check is it a multiple of the other number/s, then the LCM is the multiplied number (x3 num). If all my methods don’t work (prime num problem) and the highest number can’t be a multiple of a number/s, you need to multiply the highest number by the prime number. Then the LCM is that multiplied number. thanks for the amazing video

i remember using a slightly differenct variant of this method. i discovered it myself: lets say i have a set of numbers, and i have to find the lcm of them set of numbers: 1, 3, 12, 15. The method i use is slightly faster here. 1. Here, i notice that there is a trio of numbers that are multiples of three (3, 12, and 15) 2. i take the largest number (15) and divide it by the smallest number (3) to get 5. 3. i look at the remaining set of numbers to check for any pairs (there aren't any in this case, so i proceed onto the next step. If there were, i'd do the second step). 4. In this case, there are no more "pairs", so I proceed. There is only another number in the list which is 1, but that doesn't matter since every number has 1 as a factor. I multiply my result of 5 (15/3 done earlier) by the remaining number (12) to get my LCM: 60. Now let's apply that to the lists done in this video: list: 4, 8, 16 1. I notice that there's another trio here, consisting of multiples of 4 2. I take the highest number of the trio (16) and divide it by the lowest number in the trio (4) to get 4. 3. We then divide the remaining number in the trio (8) by the result (4) to get 2. 4. 2*8 is 16, which is the LCM. in this video, the strategy you used is faster than mine, as the example used is a simple one. Onto the next one: list: 3, 4, 6, 18 1. We take all numbers that are divisable by 3 and put them in a trio. In this case, we take the largest one, as it has all the divisors of the other numbers in the list (18). We now have 18 and 4 2. we notice that both are divisable by 2, so we divide 1 of them by 2. 18/2=9 3. 9*4 =36, which is our LCM the third example in the video: list: 5, 10, 15, 20 1. we notice in the list that the 20 has both 5 and 10 as factors, so we are left with 15 and 20. 2. we notice that both are divisable by 5 (15/5=3; 20/5=4), so we divide 5 by preferrably the largest one (20) by 5. 20/5=4 3. do 4*15, which gives you the lcm of 60. its a hard strategy to understand, but once you get the hang of it, you can go real fast,

Amazing video but I have a question what if there are multiple prime numbers would you times it by the highest?
@FastandEasyMaths Жыл бұрын
Only if the highest isn't divided by any of the prime numbers, for ex if you have 2, 3, 15 then your LCM will be 15× 2 since 15 is divided by 3 so 3 won't be taken into consideration for the LCM, If the numbers are 2,3,25 then in that case you multiply 25×2×3 to get your LCM

No here, when you have highest number as 5 and the other number is 3 which is prime so you can directly multiply 3×5 and the left over number is 4, so you can then multiply 3× 4× 5
