It’s got a project van I have I won’t really be driving it it’s more just to fix up for a KZbin channel I was gonna use the foam then use a fibreglass kit then remove the foam as much as possible (this is what I was advised by a friend)

@@urbanstud1o fiberglass and mesh will help it last longer. Entire car bodies are made of fiberglass and its waterproof. Still have to prep it right, fill it, primer it, sand it again to make a decent repair

Bro, a chep flux core welder is 200 bucks, there are 100 million videos on yt on how to weld, there is no excuse to not do the best that you can at least. Fork up the 200-300 bucks to buy the welding machine (you won't regret it) watch a few hours of yt tutorials, grab a few pieces of metal and practice for a few hours and your all set, now you can weld, it's not that complicated.

I have done it to an old beater silverado I had...lasted years,looked better than rot holes, and was CHEAP. I wouldn't do it to a nice vehicle...but it worked

The foam will hold moisture and make it alot worse over time, not even a year later that spot will be rusted out 5xs worse

Not true! that is a myth. The only reasons it would hold water is if the person did not properly dry the area before applying, or they missed a spot where water can get in and get behind the foam, but the foam itself will not hold water, it is not a sponge like people seem to think. If you are afraid of that happening you just have to make sure to use closed cell foam, but it really does not matter. I bet you $10 bucks I could put a chunk of spray foam in a cup of water and let it set for a couple days and take it out, wipe it off and it will be bone dry.

​@@Huckleberry9921 I have bought so many used cars jackasses do this too. The foam will deteriorate faster then normal typical use, like in a house, in a basement. On a car it is subjected to a extreme variety of conditions on each end of the spectrum example extreme heat, extreme cold. And throw in moisture and condensation. And add the fact that water will literally seep into any Crack and every crevice. Especially on rocker panels, that already have preexisting seep holes in them to let the water out. That always get clogged and hold moisture water and moisture in. Anyways, foam deteriorates overtime due to extreme fluctuations in temperatures and being exposed to moisture, the foam eventually becomes brittle and porous, water penatrates foam, and any residual rust before the "repair" expands under the foam to other metals, detaching the foam from the metal in turn also letting water in. Causing more rust. Original hole is now 2-4 times bigger and has now probably expanded to rear axle mounts. I bought a Nissan sentra this guy sprayed foam in the wheel well, and bondoed it. After driving it around for a year after I bought it, the spot cracked out. And the hole was 3 times bigger then the ball of foam. That was left over and the foam straight crumbled up like a old stale rice crispy treat. Sold it to a guy I made aware of the hole. He drove it for 3 months before the rear shock went up into the trunk and sent him into a ditch. Remove rust and just weld another piece of metal in, bondo, and spray the inside of the rocker with surface shield, fluid film, or woolwax. And you're done,

I have a 69 Beetle that needs body work... hopefully, I get the money to do this shit that needs to be done before rain. At least I live in California, so there's not much rain in the winter. At least a 69 Beetle is more expected to have rust and are worth fixing because at least they are past the car phase of just decreasing in value. So if I fix it up, it's worth more fixed than the money I paid for it, and either way, I'm going to keep the car.

I guess we will see how long it lasts. I'll post update on a few years. Gonna get driven in the salt this winter. I'm hoping I sealed out any water getting into the hole. Also I don't think this kinda foam absorbs water, it pretty much repels water. I put a chunk of it in water and it just floats, didn't suck up any water.

@@amphibiousmotorcycle Foam is porous. Where you cut the foam that exposed the pores. Not to mention now that you filled the cavity in the rocker air can't move through there trapping any moisture and salt that seeps in between the metal and foam.

You can use your method in conjunction with rust seal as long as you do proper preparation such as sanding etc and never see that rust again! I did it to an 89 silverado I had. Lasted years and I live where there's alot of salt during the winter. Hell, I've seen bodyshop repairs last less time. I wouldn't do it to a nice vehicle, but an old beater...why not

I have found I can tow these cars home, with ok bodies for about $800. About 6 hours a can swap motor, batteries, whatever and have junk yard pick up whatever is remaining. Wouldn't be worth selling the rusty body car. I'm just making it look better a couple more years.

Good job 👍 not a good repair.. but to each his own. If you want a tip for Bondo'ing over foam I've used fiberglass resin to stiffen the foam after cutting it, then do the bondo. The foam will never flex. ✌️ cheers from NYC

Bondo is terrible, it heaves, cracks, etc. I use fiberglass filler, rivet in plastic poly wall (the plastic wall from showers) fiberglass over that. Holds indefinitely.💯👌

Maybe if you bought a rusted out car up north, and took it down to New Mexico or Arizona, then this would be a reasonable thing to do. Guys this is the worst thing you could ever do, i mean you mind as well just let it go if this is the option bc if you do this it will just retain moisture even when it may not apear to be wet bc ig will be behind the surface, thats all what spray foam will do and once u introduce constant moisture to a rusty or once rusty or not even just a rusty area but regardless it will rust much faster than it already once was

I’ve done this to my Subaru many times. I never have any problems with is continuing to rust. I use an industrial rust converter solution that basically just makes it primer. I let it dry for like 3 days with a small fan on it and a dehumidifier in my garage to make sure it’s dry. The car is a pos on the outside so as far as I’m concerned I can’t do anything more to it than what has already done. If I had a brand new car would I do this? No! But because getting a new paint job for even one door would total out the car cost wise it’s the next best thing and unless you stare at it and look for imperfections it looks just fine. For a car worth only a couple k’s it’s a totally fine solution and since I live in a very rusty and snowy area I’m just gonna have to do it again

Doesn't it typically require welding? I would think that's the hang-up for most people who don't have a MIG Welder and commercial argon gas cylinder. And the body shop will quote $2500-3000 sometimes which can be close to the value of an old rusted out car. If you have any tips or tricks, I'm all ears because my 2012 escape needs them badly.

Thanks Josh. There is a 50% chance this car will be in a accident in the next 2 years. Due to teenage drivers. Lol I bought this car for $200 for my kids to use for a first car. I spent 1 😊😊hours work to make it look much better for 2 years. I do have all the equipment and materials to weld in metal and make a better fix, that would last longer. But I don't have the time to spend 10 hours on a $200 car. But I did have the small amount of time to make it look 100% better for the time being.

3 months now, nothing has changed. Daughter parks it in the driveway, so it's always outside in rain etc, and drives it to school each day. She takes it to the car wash every few weeks. Winter is coming, salt will have it's chance soon. Nowhere I can see for the salt to go but on top of the paint. This has to be better than before with the rust hole, that would have let water and salt get inside. Crossing my fingers.

That is the most dumbest way to repair the car. Any man in their right mind would cut the rust out, get a peace of sheet metal mold it, tack weld , finish molding the metal to the car, then weld it permanently. Once it's in place grind it and make it even with the area of the car. Lightly spread bondo to seel pits and holes. Sand it down to where it is straight and even with the lower part of the car, prime that area with gray primer , wet sand the area to even out the area and get rid of over spray of primer, tape up the area that your going to paint and then paint. But before you paint clean the area with laqor thiner to get rid of the oils and dirt so you don't get fisheyes in the paint. Do it the right way might take longer but it pays off in the long run. Cutting corners is a mistake. Latter you will have to do it again after it cracks. That fome stuff don't do well in the heat and cold weather.

Did the exact same for under the car had a 7’ by 2’ rusted hole and thought p40 just gonna fall, got some insulation foam shaped and shaved the excess and filled with p40 and worked like a charm thank god someone else thought the same 😂 was looking for other ideas now thinking why change 😜
