Fastest Elevator in Minecraft

This is the fastest minecraft elevator tutorial, and it's much more efficient and easy to build than piston elevators or other redstone elevators.
FYI: You can also use boats in place of the minecarts, but they're more fragile, and I think the minecarts look better. :)
This elevator will go from the bedrock floor to the sky ceiling in about
6 seconds, compared to piston elevators which take 12-13 seconds.
I've heard that many people have made an elevator with a similar design. After searching around, I think kindofdoon or roobitz used this concept first.

I solved the problem at the top by replacing the solid block with a stair block. If you are looking at the stairs and pressing forward when you leave the cart, you walk right out without falling. No extra carts needed at the top. Love this elevator.

The only problem with this is minecarts can tend to despawn

PewDieSky that doesnt happen anymore. only if you break the minecart or shoot with arrow etc. will they become floating entities and despawn. they dont slide out of the way anymore either. boats on the other hand still slide away (I think).

Ok I agree on single player but also on servers this classifies as an entity, with entities on servers there is usually entity delete on and they can despawn because of that.

I just built this on single player (survival). Worked great the first 10 or so times then about half of them just disappeared. Rebuilt them and within a minute another half were gone so it can definitely happen.

WGGER did you use solid block around the carts? Maybe glass being a transparent block could affect it.

you could also use open trapdoors (though they'll open if you break the block next to them), or use a glass pane.

it works fine for me in 1.3. make sure you point forwards away from the ladders when you click up. try that

Cool, thanks! I needed a way down too haha but I thought of my own little way. However, your way is more practical. It's actually what I do to get down to a spot if I find myself needing to go back up. I'd place ladder at the bottom, go up a different way, and then when I go back I'll just jump down the hole and the ladder will break my fall.

5:44 why build a water drop, "glitching" down thru the mine carts IS the best way down to the bottom in surival or creative, especially if you put a slime block at the very bottom! Thanks so much for the idea works great (with my miner adjustment)

I made a boat elevator that work in 1.5.2. Basically same design as in this video, but uses boats instead of mine carts. Each boat float above one water block. The water block is surrounded by glass panels. The water blocks can be prevented from flowing down with signs. With boat elevator, you don't need "step off" thing at the end. Obviously this needs lots of wood but it's renewable, unlike iron.

I tried it, and it works like a charm. Although, it really is much easier to just place a long vertical pile of blocks with a ladder along it. But if speed is what we're after, then yes, your method is the best.

what I like about this elevator is that it's very simple, no redstone needed. It's also up and down since you can get down through ladders.

Wow: it's fast ,easy to build and is cheap with boats instead the others piston elevator that take a lot of time and resources ! With the same metod you can go really fast in straight line : i think you can use half slabs to stop the boats moving away and just clicking as fast as you can!

The only comment I have is I have created a TNT elevator that gets you about 50-70 blocks high in about 1 second. Although it is tricky to use because you would have to put in different amounts of TNT to go to different floors. This elevator however work very well and I would recommend it instead of my TNT Elevator(even though mine requires less time).

Since i see this design back in 2012 i use it always...it's fast and i love it. From layer 4 to layer 254 in just 14 seconds and thats is way is so good.

Great video; very informative! :) A couple of corrections (using minecraft PC 1.8.6): you CAN actually safely go down a minecart elevator, provided you used ladders instead of trapdoors (which... why would anybody use a trapdoor when they can use a ladder instead? Ladders are so much cheaper... 3 ladders for 7 sticks vs. 1 trapdoor for 6 planks... means for the price of 1 trapdoor, you can get 5 ladders and some change). Anyway, just enter the top minecart, and press the "sneak" button (LShift, by default). You'll just gently fall through the minecarts to the bottom, because the ladders break your fall. It's a bit slow compared to going up, but eliminates the need to build another way to go down, especially in the Nether (where you can't just do a simple water drop). Also, I think you mentioned that using glass was optional. I think it may be mandatory, though... I've yet to get a minecart to stay in place long enough without using glass on the outside. It is possible to get out without another minecart to go to, though it is a little harder. Make sure there's a solid block nearby, and LShift and jump forward at the same time.

If you place a block above the ladder put a rail on it place the Mine cart, break the block then it will fall and stick on the ladder, this is only because the ladder is classed as a block. I am not too sure you might have to test but I think in the new update you can place them on a block without rails :) Hope it helped. -Tewby

You need to offset the carts 1 unit horizontally for some reason, but it works and looks great when you have the carts supported only by glass.

It's the positioning of your elevator. Try rotating it (minetracks place the same direction, so rotating the elevator 90 degrees will work).

If you press w,s,d or a in the direction of the ladder while you exit the cart you wont fall but stand on top of the piece of ladder. It's easy and saves you some time and materials and allows you to exit at any level.

He did mention you can use boat as well if you want to save those iron. Also piston use 1 iron each, and you need sticky piston to make piston elevator which means you need to find some slime ball. Basically if you compare and compare this build is really compact.

i would recommend a water drop for the way down, because there is a small collision box with ladders that can allow the fall to kill you, water is foolproof

You don't really need to build a way down, the minecarts already make a safe route down if you fall in them. Thanks for this though, so much easier than the piston beast I was trying to build.

I made something similar with wooden boats instead of minecart, b/c woods are cheaper than irons in my world. Each boat is supported by one water block, which in turn is prevented from flowing down by a sign. The tower is made with glass panes, so boats can move around in its place, but it does NOT wonder off. I didn't need any step off cart, since water block prevents me from falling down.

I float each boat on a water block. The water block is "supported" by a sign. Boats stay in place if you surround it with glass panes, NOT any solid blocks.

It goes horizontally; but the minecarts need to be closer together. it does not go straight down thought, as that would require you to be able to click through the minecart your in.

I have an idea, but I'm not good with building and redstone. Use the basic TNT launcher, and wall around it. Then, sticky piston some other block and delay the pistons so when you get up, the pistons go and you basicly have a floor underneath you. Not sure how you would work it, but I though it was a decent idea. :D

If you're careful. I did this all the way to the sky barrier in my survival world but when i got in my boats i suffocated in the wall. I think it depends on which way you're facing so test it before using all your boats.

That is a perfectly acceptable valid reason to be playing it on XBLA. But if you did have a good enough computer(or have one available), there is really no excuse as to why you would ever prefer the XBLA version over the original PC version. Cheers :).
