It seems to me that hiking out on a tramp or haka is the easiest way to get more speed as it reduces or eliminates the drag on the leeward ama, allowing you to carry more sail. Plus it's a significantly drier ride.

exactly! I have tramp and extention for the stairing. I should do. thank you!

Love the TI video - keep them coming! Pure estimate on my end - TI maxed out 9 to 10 mph. Love the speed.⛵⛵⛵

James, saw 22 kmph, roughly 13 mph I believe but that was down winding and basically surfing down the front of a big swell. Felt like I was skipping. Lol furled the sail into about 1/2 and was much more stable and speed was still decent, back in that 7 mph range.

Any idea of how fast you were going? Anytime I start getting over 13 km per hour it gets a bit sketchy. Haven’t dumped it yet so will keep pushing it and my comfort zone. Looks like a great day out.

Have you heard of anyone capsizing one of these?
@aaronshenk1365 Жыл бұрын
@@joeblow1942 I have not capsized mine yet but there are videos out there of people capsizing. From what I’ve see it appears to be mainly from the support bar pin failing when to much pressure is on the ama. I’ve had one pin break or fall out so far and luckily it was on the windward side when I noticed.

Fastest I've had my 2015 TI was 8.2 mph in a gust. Felt a lot faster. I've considered adding shrouds and a forestay connected to a D-ring about ¾ up the sail in order to maintain sail shape just not sure if the base can withstand the extra force.

These boats are easy 9kt boats. 10 to 12 is possible. That's about it other than under some sort of extraordinary conditions.

This is one way to destroy a TI. Running over Hull speed is simply nonsense.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is the hill speed of the TI?
@CheekyMonkey888 Жыл бұрын
@@aaronshenk1365 hull speed, every hull has a maximum speed it is built to go at, over that the bow pushes a wave of water forward and you experience extreme resistance to going faster (you re effectively sailing up a permanent wave)
@aaronshenk1365 Жыл бұрын
@@CheekyMonkey888 maybe that explained the chatter at higher speeds. I figured it was just the surfing sensation and wave against the hull
@mpcguy Жыл бұрын
I would say you're certainly risking a mast fracture. A little reefing would reduce strain and probably only minimally affect speed.
