My goal of the video was to make it less intimidating. I had no sailing knowledge prior to buying this and quickly learned the basics. I discuss basic operation of craft, rigging lines, trampolines, and adding rod holders. Just get out on the water with one and you will quickly learn how to maneuver it. No one taught me and I figured out quick. Don't be intimidated just because you lack sailing knowledge. This is like sailing for dummies. Haha.

I don't use the optional spinnaker sail sold separately. However, in really low wind conditions a spinnaker could maybe be useful. Here is the Hobie spinnaker sail kits (Ti and Ai) if you are interested: amzn.to/2oHFw1y

*Thanks Fred* ... My goal of the video was to simplify it so folks aren't intimidated by the sailing aspect. No prior sailing knowledge is needed. It is literally sailing for dummies. I had no sailing experience and first day out did 12+ miles. Hobie Tandem Island makes it really easy. If anyone has questions just ask and I will do my best to answer. Is it possible to Get some sort of cover so you can store all the camping gear in the front and not take in any water ?

We just use Home Depot sealed plastic containers. It actually worked well.

Mateo Mediario I have a link to where you can buy. It is in the video description below the video. They might be sold out right now but it is the best place to buy the Tandem Island online. Keep in contact with me. 👍

Thanks for the video, very detail and sure answer many questions i had. Im from Brazil, therefore im trying to make sure the AI 2019 model does suit my needs, as it takes 3 months to ship it here from the US and is quite pricy too. Im planning on ordering one next year. Whts your opinion on targeting big pelagic predators , like marlin or tuna over 80kg in on of those?
@KayakDIY5 жыл бұрын
The single person Adventure Island (AI 2019) has a weight capacity of 181.44kg. That will leave you with only 101.44kg left. So depending on your weight and your fishing gear you would be near or over that capacity. Now if most of the time you plan to target smaller species then the AI is awesome and might suit your needs. I found the tandem island to be nice when I was on the water, but it was a lot of work to get on the water due to size. I wish I had bought the AI. Most of the time I went alone so I didn’t need the second seat. For targeting big pelagic predators around 80kg you might at times struggle maneuvering the AI. My favorite Hawaiian guys the Uyeda brothers catch Marlin from the tandem island.

@@KayakDIY Thank you for getting back. I did not consider the TI, as in my case i am planning on solo paddles. however you pointed out a very relevant mark. I will look into the TI as an option from now on. Thank you again.
@popcornsamurai6 жыл бұрын
I would mostly be going out solo but would like the option to bring another party. I also am 6ft 300 lbs. would I be better off with the random or the single?
@KayakDIY6 жыл бұрын
I would go with Tandem Island. At 300lbs you would be approaching capacity and could only carry another 100lbs on an adventure island (solo model). On tandem island you could carry another 300lbs besides yourself. go.magik.ly/ml/gufh/ Also look into Windrider 16 trimarans. They are sweet and easy to sail. They lack pedal drives but are very well made and sometimes similar price or less. I have a video on KZbin of one. Also have video clip on Instagram. My friend has several. The WR16 can easily hold two people. One inside and one on trampolines. All these options are best with a trailer. A trailer makes them more enjoyable a easy to quickly get on the water. Else they are a burden in my opinion. I wouldn’t own one without a decent trailer.

@@KayakDIY I'm 6'2 240 lbs, would I be able to sit on the trampoline near the ama's? I can't find what the weight capacity for the akas are.

You mention fishfinders but your link is just to Lowrance Fishfinders for sale on Amazon. Is there any particular fishfinder and mount you have found useful? I just bought my own Hobie TI.
@KayakDIY6 жыл бұрын
The new Lowrance Hook 2 5 series is a great value and performs well. The transducer however is longer and requires a BerleyPro coverplate adapter to fit in the Hobie "Lowrance Ready" area. Otherwise, on a budget the 4 series isn't bad. With Hobie kayaks it makes sense to use Lowrance due to the ease of installation in the Lowrance Ready transducer well. *amzn.to/2IPZumH*

Do you plan to put an electric or gas motor on yours? If so what kind?
@KayakDIY6 жыл бұрын
Moe I sold the Hobie Tandem Island due to needing the money for other projects and kayaks. However, if I were to keep it I would use one of two options. I would either use the Bixpy motor kit in the front pedal drive well or I would get a Suzuki 2.5hp outboard which weighs 29lbs. I already own a Bixpy and love it so I would probably go the Bixpy route. lddy.no/3lir
@Moedy16 жыл бұрын
Damn that sucks that you sold it. Your island camping video was one of the best hobie videos I’ve seen on KZbin and I was looking forward to more. Do you think you may get another one in the future or maybe something similar like the windrider? Did bixpy give you a discount?
