You don't put sealant on freeze plugs . They are designed to push out to avoid the block from cracking if there is insufficient antifreeze in the coolant system . If you add sealant to the plug it won't allow it to push out and thus you'll result with a cracked engine block

When you took out that freeze plug, it appeared as there was only water coming out of which would indicate that tap water/mineralized water was put in. That would clearly account for the rust and debris/scale buildup and plugging the cooling passages. You should obviously do a diluted acid flush for as long and as many times it takes to get it all out! Cheers

You are 100% correct!! Smart and observant haha. This engine was RUSTY. I use a chemical called "evaporust" on engines like this. They make one that is safe for automotive engines. It is an amazing thing.

Should clean the plug bore so you aren't pushing debris into the passageways with the new plugs and you should also use some sort of sealant on the new plugs, good job using the airhammer seems to work very well, careful when using a socket inside the plug like that if the socket is already a close fit when you push the new plug in it can crimp around the socket and its stuck in there, cheers

mis trusting for sure. you either get unexperianced person ruining more than the orginal problem, and/or getting over charged by the shop. the shop will have you wait weeks without a vehicle or if it is requested to be moved closer to the top priority , then you pay more & they give the job to someone that cuts corners that shouldnt be cut. ie: cleaning mating surfaces before applying gasket, indexing parts before removal to insure proper position at install, so as to prevent more or different failures or even more shop time, like having to re-align the front end. or they assign the work to a guy like this vid & they air hammer all the way to the crank journals..... yes, there are great shops w/ excellent tech's and mech's , but........ its gonna cost a very larger price.

What do you think about using expansion plugs?
@gagefixeseverything
@gagefixeseverything 3 жыл бұрын
I have used them in a pinch , but they do not last long. They let a small amount of water go past the rubber and block port over time. This often rusts the block/freeze plug bore, which makes the engine un repairable. I have had to deal with this a few times. Expansion plug get used, and forgotten, resulted in the engine block having to be replaced.
