So beautiful, thanks for sharing! Full confession time - the first few times I saw any Richard Mueller hybrids my thoughts were “pretty but not high on my list, maybe someday”…..when you recently highlighted a few, I was smitten, especially by your Rustic Spots, and I decided I needed that orchid now LOL (am I not demonstrating orchid addiction!?!?). 100% :) Stay patient, give good light, air circulation and enough drainage and it will all work out, just takes time for these orchids 1. to get big enough to bloom to begin with and 2. to acclimate to indoor conditions (or drastically different outdoor conditions) keep going! :)

Suas orquídeas estão lindas, adoro esses híbridos! Como já falei anteriormente, não gosto muito dos híbridos mais comuns aqui no Brasil, pois possuem flores muito exageradas. Prefiro as espécies. Por falar nisso, ontem consegui uma muda da orquídea terrestre cyrtopodium andersonii, composta por um único bulbo enorme, com umas 16 polegadas de comprimento. É uma orquídea de sol pleno e tenho um espaço ideal para ela.

1:13 I got the Rustic Spots from Akatsuka this year. It arrived with two blooms and then it made a lot of roots after repotting. 6:36 This hybrid sounds amazing. If orchid growers want to make any cattleya more vigorous, they should just cross it with a Richard Mueller. 😅 This was my most vigorous cattleya this year (from Akatsuka): Rlc. Waianae Starburst 'Volcano Queen' • Genetic cross between C. Luzcleta x Rlc. Mem. Benigno Aquino. • C. dowiana (34%) + C. elongata (13%) + C. forbesii (13%) + C. warscewiczii (8%) • Produces Beautiful FRAGRANT Orange Blooms • Blooming Season: Summer - Fall • Average Plant Height: 15-18" It made 3-4 new canes and a bunch of roots. It may be the setup since each pot I used was a little different. It's in a Repotme pot and it's in a decorative container that doesn't allow any airflow on the sides. I got this Richard Mueller cross from Krull-Smith earlier this year: Cattleya Small World x Bc. Richard Mueller (4N) • Cattleya aclandiae × Cattleya luteola

I just got a primary hybrid between Laelia anceps and Brassavola nodosa. I am curious. The plant looks more like a Brassavola and these Richard Mueller hybrids. I find that orchids and aroids from Mexico in general are more drought and low humidity tolerant than those from South America. That flower of the hybrid with Cattleya labiata is amazing. Large on a very compact plant. ❤
@NicoleDeanna9 күн бұрын
Nice! Yeah the RM is 50% nodosa so it's no surprise :) I will have to agree with you on that with the orchids from Mexico vs some of the more finicky species further down or in the mountain areas of Venzuela, Ecuador and Colombia - Those can be tricky. One exception that's common and easy to find is Aclandiae hybrids, not as vigorous as RM but grow pretty dang well. Thanks for watching!
@stefpix9 күн бұрын
@@NicoleDeanna I think it is the nodosa that makes it vigorous. The rupiculous Laelias from Brazil seem more prone to root rot than a Brassavola. I also just got a nice hybrid between Laelia anceps and a rupicolous Laelia from Brazil from Ecuagenera USA. It looks very compact, with pseudobulbs very much clumped together. I think the Mexican orchids go through some dry spells and cool temps in the winter and torrrential downpours during hurricane season. So probably they resist root rot and drought at the same time. It is amazing how successful you are at flowering all these orchids. I am upgrading my game with some barrina lights and been using some kelp extract with my waterings. Noticed a difference. I don’t see you growing any Encyclias, maybe I did not come across videos of yours that show those. Also some Maxillarias (although the variety of climates and amd characteristics among so many Maxillaria species is so huge). I also got BC Theresa Ricci 75% aclandiae and 25% nodosa, enabled (or should o say inspired?) probably by some of your videos. I like the idea of species or hybrids where I can still track down only 2 or 3 species parents. Anyway may be done buying, now I have to offload some plants I am tired of. A video by Pretty in Green stated the months for highest plant sales are between mid September and mid October and April / May. Nice relaxing video for a cup of coffee before chores and potting the new plants.

@@lisaallen7219 I think it depends on the light situation, if the light is pretty strong though the day you might be able to get away with keeping the 8 hours. If over time you don't get booms (say next spring) then next winter I would be sure to bump it up. It's really trial and error 😊

Hi Nicole, Are your Richard Mueller crosses all blooming right now in September? I have one I want more❣️Anywho I was wondering since you’re so kind to respond to all of your comments are your Cattleya’s slowing down on growth currently? Reason I asked I have tons of new shoots, not all starting to sheath, but they look like they’re kind of going dormant to some extent.. When the temperatures get cooler like we’ve had the past couple weeks and the temps go down to like 67’ 68 in the grow room do you leave the lights on longer or do you put the heater on? Thanks Nicole appreciate any advice❣️ Will those new growths be waiting to bloom next year? Do your cattleyas bloom all year long?
@NicoleDeanna7 күн бұрын
@@paulasevan8350 6 of my Richard Mueller hybrids are blooming right now, 4 are not yet :) my cattleyas, many of the hybrids bloom throughout the year. They haven't slowed growing yet, but they will in the next few weeks. @@NicoleDeanna my barrinas do 4, 8 or 12 hours. Have had them on for 12 hours. I think 8 hours would be too short. What do you think?
@NicoleDeanna4 күн бұрын
@@LizE2654 I never tried 8, but I think you'll get less blooms. I think it's short and I'd go with 12. Remember, orchids grow near the equator where their light is somewhat steady (around 12 hours) and their days aren't as short. Led lights are also less intense than the sun, so that's why I do 14 in the summer. You could keep them always on but get an separate timer as well if you want to try longer times in the summer.
