Why is playing fast such a big deal in the rock guitar world? The word virtuoso gets thrown around way too often, just because someone who's never done anything influential can play something fast. In classical music, playing fast is a prerequisite to playing the music with an orchestra. It's a baseline requirement. Nobody goes "OOOH AAAH, he just played Mozart, Beethoven, and Vivaldi," like it's a one in a million thing. The greatest guitar players, Chuck Berry, Clapton, Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, etc. we all know the names, are considered great due to their ability to create great riffs and songs, they were innovators who influenced how generations think about and play guitar. If all they did was play fast, a lot would be missing.
@davidjorgensen877 Жыл бұрын
@@howdy1487 No one claimed this guy was a great rock guitarist because of this. I mean, maybe he is a great player, but this demonstrates none of that, because musicality was not the objective, setting a world record was. I mean, the Guinness Book came to exist as a means to settle bar bets in the pre-Internet era - doing tricks to get your name in it is strictly for fun and posterity.

I know this guy. In the early 90s, he came from Russia to Belgrade, Yugoslavia (today's Serbia). He played in Gorky Park, probably someone remembers the band from Russia. He was replacing a guitarist then, he is not an original member of the band. He was giving guitar lessons, and we were recording something in Belgrade, I heard his recordings, found him, and had a few lessons. The man is crazy!! He plays abnormally well, he is a good man, and there is a lot to learn from him. In Yugoslavia at that time, there was inflation, the monthly salary was 5 German marks and a two-hour lesson with him was 20 marks. Don't ask how I managed... And he talked about the world record, he played 57 tones in 2.7 seconds!!

He didn't claim to be the best guitarist on earth. He claimed to be the fastest and he proved it in a measured test. Give Ceasar what is of Ceasar, kudos to him.
@CMM53004 жыл бұрын
The scale he is using is G bebop major 1 2 3 4 5 b6 6 7 He starts and ends with F# so Bebop major mode VII You could call it locrian bebop but they would put the passing tone between the b7 and root. Another scale would be: Bebop locrian bb7. 1 b2 b3 4 b5 b6 bb7 b7 Then the passing tone Is between the bb7 and root. Same notes just 2 different ways of looking at it.

I love how everybody hates on him x) everybody is like "oh he didn't played with soul omg he shouldn't even play guitar". This video is about a record of speed in guitar. What did you expect ? You just came to hate or ... ? If you like melody not speed then go somewhere else. You really thought he could have played 27 notes in a second with SOUL ? xD I agree that his tone sounds like shit btw and that he could have play something better than a scale.
