Hey! I have a TV that has a blown fuse at the AC inlet. I tested some stuff (thanks to your videos) and found an open diode. Do you think if I order the fuse and diode I should be ok? Or am I opening a can of worms. In other words should I just order the whole board? Thanks!

Just a tip for the butane soldering iron. Make sure that the butane is not on all the way. Just a light hiss. I found out that it heats up (becomes usable) faster than when you turn it on all the way. Also, you only need to light up one of the vent holes, with the flame pointed downwards. The reason for this is if the butane is on all the way, the flame is stronger, but leaves a small gap between it, and the heating element. A smaller flame keeps it tighter with the heating element. If done correctly it only takes about 10-15 seconds to be usable.

I have a similar radio crap electrical which is ok, but it does seem to take a while to heat up AND cool down. The cord can be really annoying at times too. It does ace two settings but I've never understood what the applications are for each.

Hey nice video but I went to link for iso-tip and price said like $25. And then checked Amazon and it said $70? Is there different models? What’s yours?

I really wish ISO-TIP had a battery operated model more focused on portability. It should include a cap and either have a quickly replaceable battery or be able to charge with a standard cable instead if relying on a dock. I need something for my electronics tool bag and to be honest the butane ones scare me a little.

look up a Metcal soldering station that one heats up immediately if you flip the switch and touch the tip in 3 seconds there is a burn.

I use a hakko fm-204, it heats up at least as fast as the cordless one. The corded radio shack one isn't really giving the plug in style a fair representation!

You welcome. Man I'm so confused. I want one to solder wires occasionally on my car. Don't really do much board soldering. I use to have a drone. Had to change a motor. This one I'm looking at has a life time warranty. Do you know anything about this company? www.eastwood.com/9-in-1-cordless-soldering-iron-torch-and-blower.html

Just pointing this out: even though there are no obvious extra costs associated with the direct ac plug "conventional" iron, you are still using electricity. If you leave the iron on for hours at a time, you might find that the butane is cheaper - at least it forces you to be conscious about your fuel consumption.

radio shack irons are junk. that butane iron u have there looks like a cheap pos. power probe makes an excellent butane iron with attachments for shrink tubing and has a peizo electric starter much more handy for field work than the one you showcased here. weller makes the best ac irons imo
