Put simply, Lerdsila is a defensive genius. Known as the Eel for how slippery he is during a match, Lerdsila has the uncanny ability to not only get out of bad situations, but turn them to his advantage. This flashy style of defensive countering has earned Lerdsila championships in several different weight classes, and at one point he even held a 100 fight win streak.
Lerdsila is constantly evolving, seeming to periodically get tired of some of his most impressive tricks, only to replace them with something even crazier. That means there’s a lot of advanced moves to cover. So we’ll be taking a quick look at the foundational elements of Lerdsila’s style, and then explain how he takes them to the next level to execute jaw dropping techniques. Techniques that very few fighters on earth can pull off.

I want to ask, why is Boxing is much more popular and focused on by the media than the likes of Muay Thai and Kickboxing, despite those two sports being much more technical (and include kicks and knees, not just punches) and having insane fighters with hugely entertaining style like Lerdsila? Thanks.

@@omaralmitwally3475 I don't think you know much about boxing if you really think Muay Thai or kickboxing are "much more technical" than boxing. Or if you think boxing doesn't have fighters as entertaining

Adrián Arroyo I don’t think he’s really dissing boxing. He’s just saying that kicks, knees, and elbows add another layer to the fight. While boxing is very technical it is also very technical in Muay Thai and kickboxing. I would have to agree in the sense that I believe that both sports should have more attention because they are really fun to watch.

@@justasleepparalysisdemonwi8719 His argument had 3 points: 1.- Muay Thai and kickboxing are much more technical than boxing 2.- They have more weapons: kicks, knees and elbows (the point you address) 3.- They have fighters with entertaining styles If he simply would have address the second point, I wouldn't have said anything. It's obviously true. But he made a comparison addressing the technical level of the three sports, and how entertaining are its fighters. I don't think this last two are fair critiques, and so I spoke out. However, I do agree Muay Thai and kickboxing are very entertaining, and should be way more popular. I think this may be because the people who could be interested in Muay Thai and kickboxing are now more interested in MMA, precisely for the second point: it has more weapons and more variety. But who knows

In the 60's in Japan, when I was about 11 years old, in my Japanese Culture class, I saw a film of a judo match between a 4th degree black belt in his 20s and a red belt in his 70s. The red belt was light and skinny, but he had amazingly fast reflexes. He had a counter against every throw attempted by the black belt. After about 5 unsuccessful attacks, the black belt was getting frustrated, but he finally managed to flip the red belt over his hip! But the red belt landed on his feet, quickly dropped down, and caught the black belt in a scissors leg hold around the ankles. The black belt lost his balance and fell foward flat on his stomach. I thought I would never see such a display like this again in my life, but this video has proved me wrong. I am so happy I've lived long enough to see it!

I sparred with him a while ago, learned so much from it. Since then I had migrated to a more traditional Muay Thai stance and was finding myself taking some pretty brutal bearings in sparring. My mental had slipped and I became so anxious whenever I would spar that I would sometimes freeze up. Recently I remembered what lerdsila told me “fight happy” and I thought about how I used to love the creativity in fighting. I changed my game completely and now I use a much more unorthodox style with a dash of head movement. Now I feel untouchable and I’m not getting beaten by dudes who used to wreck my shit. The other day I remember I kept getting swept by this pro Chris troemmell (I think that’s his name) all I could do was smile and the whole sparring match felt like so much more fun. I couldn’t figure out what changed. Then I realized that this is exactly what lerdsila was trying to tell me. Fighting is a game, it’s supposed to be fun, I smile now because I respect the opponents creativity and flow and it’s fun. Man is a gem of a human and without realizing it he completely changed how I view fighting.

clashwithshanky Being a hardcore sport has nothing to do with it, that is simply an opinion that does not really mean anything. Each martial art is the ultimate one for the rules you compete in. I practice Muay Thai so there is no disrespect for the sport. But let’s be real here, if you compete in MMA with MMA rules you NEED ground work. Muay Thai has its own set of rules and it is the ultimate standup fighting for those set of rules, but a Muay Thai fighter would be useless on the ground unless they’ve practiced grappling. You’d be choked out. If Muay Thai was the ultimate for MMA rules then everybody would practice that instead.
