In 2007 I had the pleasure in purchasing XFX 8800 Ultra XXX model. (700+ mhz) Crysis running at 1600 by 1200 (CRT) max details was absolutely stunning at the time. My system was an AMD FX 60 (3.0 ghz) ASUS SLI premium 939 motherboard and two gigs of ddr1 ram. Unfortunately the 8800 Ultra is gone but the rest of the system is still running with 8800 GTS 320 card. Thanks for the review F2F Tech.

Such a choice system you had there, with an amazing card.. I had the same motherboard, but will a lowly 4000+. It was paired with a EVGA 7800 GT CO. Which I later SLI’d. Anyway, the 8800 Ultra was always a pinup GPU for me. Such a gorgeous card.

Thanks F2F, I had a blast with that system. Used the Zalman 9500 on overclocked FX 60 (Copper figure 8 cooler) I also used two duel height blower exhaust fans for the 8800 ultra to suck away the heat (top and bottom of card) and a 120 side fan blowing from side and 80 mm fan blowing into intake. I kept the system as cool as possible. (got a picture of the rig somewhere) Also additional 120 blowing in front of CPU Cooler in a three fan config with the exhausting in rear. It was really fast and my last high end gaming rig until Sandy Bridge 2600k/GTX 680 build years later.

I'm sorry WarmSoftKitty that you don't believe me when it ran smoothly for me besides the occasional glitches and memory leaks that were all ready known and stated from Crytek. It was a long time ago and my memory is fuzzy now, But I knew i had the right components/hardware for the best possible outcome for the time. My bud Tweak was with me when I built this and he can collaborate/contest on my due diligence in keeping this system very cool during the two day gaming awesomeness. Almost got first place in 3D mark 06 hall of fame. (two points short) If I did turn anything down it might of been antialising? Windows XP was also tweaked/stripped for maximum efficiency and performance. Anyways everything was on the highest detail settings, And i totally can remember that.

F2F Tech They need to make a liquid nitrogen cooling gel similar to thermal paste, so we can apply it to heatsink and help keep the GPU cool, and so we can apply it in the backplate to keep it cool. Are there any software that can have the system ram be used as VRAM? For example if I have 32GB of System ram in my PC, can I use let's say 16GB as VRAM to help the Graphics card perform better?

Fernando Salazar there's something called vide shared memory, but it won't be be as actual vram, it worked only on IGPUs, So yeah this thing is exist.

This thing was a beast for it's day, if you bought on in 2007 with a Core 2 Quad, it lasted you until 2013 if you only cared about playing the latest games better than a console could, even on normal settings at 720p, you were still getting a better experience than anyone on console.

For that video card and Crysis was to enter the world of the PC gamer. With my school savings and selling my play 2 I reached for an 8800gt. After a few months a colleague sold me the 8800 ultra since I exchange it for a 9800gx2

André Bachmann I do, but it doesn’t work with Windows 10. I’ll have to see if I can get it working in a Windows 7 PC.

Oh I just looked at Nvidia's driver page, there is indeed no Windows 10 driver. Have you tried the Windows 8.1 x64 driver? Sometimes they work in Windows 10, too.

I sold my 7950 GX2 for quite some years now, so I can't test it for myself. If you can't get it to work even with Windows 7, then the card may really have an issue. Good luck! :)

Maybe you can take a look at the 8500 gt ? With nvinspector it overclocks outside the limits of msi afterburner really well here the version i got. Stock its at 439 mhz core clock 369 mhz memory shaders 918 mhz I managed too squeeze out 700 mhz core 435 mhz memory & 1600 mhz shader clock stable in 3dmark 03,2001se & stable in the Fear 1 benchmark. The card i got is the Asus EN8500GT Magic/HTP/512M with its stock cooler which was picked out of a hp desktop pc with a core 2 quad q6600 while they got a hd 4670 too put in the system.

Hi, i would love to see those cards tested with newer processors like i7 7700k/8700k @5ghz with very high clocked memories 3600 cl14 or better. To see how much it affects the performance on the older and newer games. everytime i buy new hardware i retest all my games but i have been disapointed with GPUs and most games in general, i'm 29, it's hard to justify buying it in my country since they are very expensive.

I like to use Noctua NT-H1. For this card a large pea method, line, or X method is fine.

temp tmp Does it work though? I have several of the old halo cards and less than half actually work in 3D, most do desktop without the driver installed but crap out as soon as you start a 3D app or install the driver, including my 8800 Ultra.

temp tmp Halo = über top end, so the Ultras and limited editions etc. The cards that exist more to beat everything else and make the brand look good than to really sell to the general public. But I'm curious as to whether your 8800 Ultra works, I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with several of my cards, some are obvious (components knocked off) but some are really odd, like they run 3D for a few seconds and then artifacts appear and system freezes.

temp tmp Ah ok, your reply to OP made me naturally assume you bought an Ultra for $25 which would be a pretty good deal. I have an XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog that also has issues. However I have done reflows before, might try it on one of the 'issue cards' I have, but in my experience they never last long, maybe a few months. Weirdly I have some cards I would almost assume should have problems but don't, like two early ASUS ATI dual cards, both work fine.

They would. It’s the same GPU, minus slightly different memory. I just pushed each as hard as I could, without pushing shader clocks much more over the sync.

nvidia quadro fx 5600 is the best quality 384 bit memory speed but 76 gigabytes per second because the videoram memory is broken, 384 gigabytes per second must be the minimum speed for 384 bit graphics cards

why is everyone benchmarking older graphics cards with newer games ? if the card was released in 2007 i can understand running a couple games from 2009, but the majority of the benchmarks should be from the year it was released, gta 5 was released in 2015 on the pc, and you benched a card that would have been like 8 years old at the time of the games release, just saying

The purpose is to see how well the card has aged. Imo if you want to see how it performs in games from its era, then do a quick google search. There are plenty or articles that cover that.
