OK for those of you with clutch issues... I'll share my story to maybe help because it always helps when I come across something relating to my situation at the time. I have a 2006 Civic Si with nearly 150k on it. About two years ago I had to get the clutch master Cylinder replaced (didn't realize I could have done it myself at the time). Anyway, I doubt the shop took much time to actually effectively bleed the system before turning the car back over to me. Right off the bat performance was erratic, but it slowly stabilized, hard pedal, soft pedal, rough mornings, cold affecting the performance, gear grinds.... etc. It culminated this year with what I thought was a failure of the system completely. Winter really kicked in and suddenly it was soft again, then nothing, no gear shifting whatsoever, totally soft. I figured right away that either the master failed uncharacteristically soon or it had to be the slave since it was never changed out. No leaks whatsoever but the fluid reservoir had been mysteriously draining. I kept filling and pumping to get it going until it just plain failed. I used the pump method to get it home and then some google searches talked about erratic clutching and the effects of properly bleeding the system. Then this video. I figured what the hell, lets give it a try. And what do you know.... I can attest that this works so if you are on the fence just do it. It's a bitch to get at my relief valve but I let it trickle for a good 20 minutes and had to at times pump the clutch to get the flow up while adding fluid. All I can say is don't give up, my pedal is solid now.

Annnnd.... last evening I got the dreaded pop and floor drop that signifies the master cylinder is toast. It was the clutch losing fluid after all.... The garage I used must have bought the crappiest parts they could find of course. This is why I do not trust other people touching my car. Now I have to take it all apart again.
@JonTorney5 жыл бұрын
Update: pulled the old master cylinder out and it was missing one of the three bolts that hold it together. Solves the mystery of where the fluid went... Anyway, stay away from Exedy products (MC569), they fail, and apparently in the same way nearly every time. Amazon has the reviews to prove it. The garage I trusted put the worst possible part they could get for the absolute cheapest price they cold get, re-affirming my feelings of never letting anyone touch my car. I installed a Genuine Honda 46925-TA0-A02 master, and the car shifts like I just bought it new now. 3,000% better, case closed, lesson learned.

This video made my day! Laughed my arse off. Thanks for the directions on the gravity bleed. Yup, it's fast and works!

Bro, that skit was me exactly. Bled my clutch come to find out my slave cylinder was clogged. I removed the bleeder valve, pressed the clutch pedal five times and it came all over my headers. After that I topped of the reservoir, allowed it to flow until almost empty, topped it back off and shut the valve. And just like that the clutch is back in the game. "clutch feel gud." Thanks dude. HSG is the shit!!!!

Hey readers, believe in this guy if I were you. I followed his advise and I owe him a lot! My Honda Civic DX 1997 is now fix and the shifting of gears is sooooooooo smoooooooth!!! I would love to treat this guy to his favorite restaurant. At first I followed EricTheCarGuy, doing his close the bleeder, push the pedal, open the bleeder, pull the pedal, and this didn't work for me. I tried this method three times but it was frustrating. But with gravity bleeding, I just bleed it for less than three minutes, ALAS!!! my car is back to normal... I love Mr. Honda Street Garage... follow his method cuz it is worth it.

I can't thank you enough mate. I fucked up my clutch while bleeding it alone and sucked lots of air in and it wasn't coming of the floor. on my truck the most affective way i found was to open the bleeder screw and press the clutch (with the bleeder open it stays on the floor) then close the bleeder screw. pull the clutch up by hand and open the bleeder again. press clutch to floor. close bleeder screw ...... repeat this about 6 times and done! its easier with a second person to work the clutch but ive done it by myself. Even if you run the system dry it will work.
