Thank you for how clearly you explained this. Going to need to watch the knot tying several times!

I've spent so much money on fancy tents over the years. Now I just sleep under a cheap tarp. Had a nice tarp, but I was too worried about having a fire nearby put a hole in it. But it's a much larger tarp. If I'm going to lay down and not get soaked, I use a 9x12. Or something about that size. Enough room for the wife, dogs, gear, and even a small fire on the inside if it's really raining.

Good, quick, no bs info. Like it. My only recommendation is looking up at the trees canopy before attaching to them. They dont call falling dead branches widowmakers for nothing.

I've spent the night through a flash torrential downpour, against a large tree, sitting up, inside of a heavy weight 55 gallon yard waste trash bag. Tucked the side of the bag that was against the tree down under my ass, and the side in front of me tucked under my feet enough to come back up the heels of my boots, in order to allow any running water to clear under me and not pool against the bag. Kept enough of the bag untucked on both sides of me to allow fresh air to flow. THAT was the fastest shelter I've ever made!

@@OleMisss Absolutely! Those heavy duty yard bags have a permanent place in all of my camping, hiking, and multi-day operations packs. At least 2 in each.

@@WhiteDragonSecurity I do the same thing. Contractor bags are low cost and versatile, big enough for a poncho, put your pack in it to cross a deep stream or river, cut it up and poke holes in it if you need to, and doesn't weigh as much as tarpaulin of a similar dimension. Those have always been pack liners in a big top load mountain ruck for me since my Marine Corps days as well.

You only need one tree for a plow point tarp setup. That seems even easier than the lean to.
@mrmicro22

And much less cordage or knot tying. His gives more access to a fire.
@Prepare2Survive
@Prepare2Survive Жыл бұрын
@@mrmicro22 You still get good access to fire with the plow point. It just needs to be offset to the tree. The plow point also holds in more heat from an offset fire than a lean-to does that has two opened sides. Speaking about the opened sides, the plow point also blocks wind from 2 sides as opposed to only one side with the lean-to.
