Hi, Dianne, I was so happy to stumble upon this great video. I had not seen a method that one could use to dye papers when it is wintertime without spending a lot of time. I tried your method and had good success. So much faster. I did have to make sure to watch them closely at that temp. Got some interesting prints. Thanks so much! Penny

Wonderful! I'm so glad you found the video. Yes! You have to watch closely at that temp or you'll start a fire, lol. tfw!!

I need some more coffee dyed paper but haven't wanted to do it. I put two pieces on a cookie sheet at a time. It takes awhile. This is a great idea.

One sheet at a time? Who has that kind of time? Yeowza. I do mine in handfuls/small stacks. The colored liquid (coffee, avocado dye, etc) finds its way through by way of pouring, tilting the pan and flipping the stacks once or twice.

Wonderful Tutorial Diane! I use cold coffee and lay in sheet by sheet But...I have never used a brush before~I certainly Will next batch I make! I like to completely cover front & back of each & every piece~your method takes care of this! I have an aversion to white paper~lol! I personally don't like white areas everywhere that aren't dyed! Your method covers best and is quick and easy! Thanks so much for sharing! 🥰❤👭

Thank you! Sometimes, if I'm in my craft room and need something coffee dyed, I will just brush it on and dry it with a heat gun. I am not a fan of white pages either.

Curious about leaving it in the pan for a week! I have a habit of not emptying the pan full of coffee after I’ve dyed a few sheets (I take mine out right away) and I’ve found that leaving a pan full of coffee for a few days starts to mold 😬 I know 100% my method of dyeing paper is not efficient at all lol (probably why I only do a few at a time 😅) but I get nervous I might ruin an entire stack of papers if I walk away and forgot about it because it will look like some sort of juvenile science experiment 😂
@shawcraft12 ай бұрын
Haha, I totally get that lol. I haven't ever forgotten to take them out because I generally leave them somewhere that they're kind of in my way until I take them out. I actually like your idea of doing them a few at a time, but the coffee does mold

Love your video, I've been doing coffee dry , but I was wondering if there is a way to get out the coffee smell ? Otherwise I love how it looks, I do like how you are doing it, and will try it with many papers at a time, thank you!
@shawcraft18 ай бұрын
Hi Ava! Sorry for my delay in responding. I've been out of town. I love the smell of the coffee, so I don't ever try to get rid of it but I have heard of some people adding cinammon to the coffee dye to help with the smell. Also, when I have an old book that doesn't smell great, I put it in a ziplock bag with some baking soda and put it in my freezer for a few days and that helps a lot to get smells out, so you could try that!
@avamartin78538 ай бұрын
Oh thanks so much, yeah I don't really mind it either, I sent some coffee stain paper to my granddaughters, just wanted to let them know if they didn't like it, then they could do something to help with the smell 😁💗 your are so helpful too 👍💕

im planning on dyeing onion skin paper but i dont exactly have an oven, i wonder if this is ok to do and then leave them outside to dry? probably a stack of 200 sheets...
@shawcraft16 ай бұрын
Hey friend ... sorry for my delay in responding. I've been out of the office for quite a few days and I'm playing catch up. YES! I would think allowing them to air dry, especially onion skin, because it's so thin ... would be the better way to allow them to dry. It shouldn't take them too awfully long either, because onion skin is so thin. Hope it works well for you, my friend
@ou1l6 ай бұрын
@@shawcraft1 Hey thanks for the response! I already tried this method with onion skin and it works! Though I only did 30-sheet stacks at a time (more than that and the stack of papers gets too wrinkly for my taste). I didn't even have to put them outside, I just placed them in my room, and they dried in just a day 😁I also used fountain pen ink instead of coffee since I've heard coffee-dyed papers can get smelly? I didn't want to risk it since I'm air drying the papers.

Every time I have tried to coffee dye paper when I take them out of the pan to put them on the parchment they tear what am I doIng wrong?
@shawcraft12 ай бұрын
I just try to take them out as gently as possible and I get most of them out without tearing them if I take my time. I have them tear too, but not all of them. I actually like the torn ones.
@didiamund90310 ай бұрын
How do you not rip it? I have tried so many times as the paper rips every time no matter how careful I am.
@shawcraft110 ай бұрын
Oh, sometimes I rip it. But I just use the ripped pieces as tag or journal card backers. It's a bit tricky, but sometimes, I will just take the whole stack out of the pan and put it in front of a fan for a while before I start trying to take them apart. Sometimes, they still rip, but I don't mind because I can still use them.
@staceyhaleysmit34513 жыл бұрын
does this paper not tear on you because it so thin.....
@shawcraft13 жыл бұрын
Not usually, you just have to be careful with it. You may tear a piece or 2 here or there, but for the most part it does pretty well.
