I am so happy I came across your video. The part where you're stepping down on the excess and mentioned that we can put garden staples down to help keep out the rabbits. Thank you for that! I plan on building my garden fence this coming week and I will be incorporating that step. Again, thank you.

People will dig deep to bury a fence. I never understood that! If you flare it out a digging animal hits it and stops

Mate thank you for posting this. I had a go today and had bulges all over the place but after watching this I understand why. There are loads of videos on You Tube about chicken wire but you're the only one who shares how to tension it. Great video and the rabbits in Cornwall UK are not going to be happy :)

@@FastGardeningMichigan If you could add how you tied off the wire at the corner posts that would be helpful. I know it probably seems really obvious to you but sometimes its those little things that make the difference to beginners. Cheers
@FastGardeningMichigan
@FastGardeningMichigan 2 жыл бұрын
The fence at the corner posts is just stretched and stapled. The wire I tie the fence to is pulled as tight as possible by hand, wrapped around the post a few times, them twisted around itsself. I use the pliers to twist that part making the wire even more tight. Not too much though or it breaks

Very instructive and yields an aesthetic and functional result. Folks that don't have a laser level will have to improvise a leveling system, but there are probably videos on KZbin for that was well. YT is full of excellent diy guidance, as well as utter foolishness. But then all crowd sourced recommendations are a mix, so one has to be discriminating in who to emulate. This seems like a well-thought out process worth emulating if possible. (I have a laser level I got at a thrift store, so this video might really help me.) Thanks! UPDATE: I see more useful & practical videos on his channel. Liked & subscribed.

You can use a string and a small level as well. Won't be as accurate but better than nothing. I believe you can rent lasers as well. A project like this it may be well worth the rental fee to get the level marks that are crucial to this

This video is super helpful But what knot do you tie that allows you to tighten the wire?
@FastGardeningMichigan
@FastGardeningMichigan Жыл бұрын
When tying post to post with a string i use a half hitch. Most important knot anyone can learn in my opinion. With the wire I use the post as the tension point and overlap my turns then finish by wrapping the wire around itself. Not really a name for that but its highly effective. I think there's a future video on this since its so important.

Are the wood posts treated wood? IF they are Treated with copper etc you have to use either HOT DIPPED Galvanized or stainless steel 302 staples and hardware etc. The reason is there is a reaction between the treatment and the metals. In a bout 3 too XX years the staples will be corroded and then transfer to the wire and it will disappear over time... other wise great guide on thow to make a perfect fence

Also hammering the staples all the way to the wood isn’t the go, meant to leave space between staples & hi tensile wires😊

Hello and thank you for posting this very useful video! I need to build a CW fence of height 18 inches, roughly 100 feet long. How deep would you suggest i install the posts? Also, will i need gravel/cement? Do you know of any videos on the post installation itself? Thank you!
@FastGardeningMichigan
@FastGardeningMichigan 2 жыл бұрын
I noticed at less than 24 inches deep my posts were wobbly. I'd suggest 18 inch deep for a 18" tall post. To get the wire tight adding rocks and concrete are good because the posts are secure and you can stretch the chicken wire against them. If the posts flex the wire gets slack spots. I should've added the post install to the video.
