Fasting in Orthodoxy is not just abstinence from food, it's the abstinence of all high-pleasure things. I'm not sure why you are not mentioning this. We do not go to parties or big celebrations, have sex, or actually any high pleasure. That's why we don't eat meat or dairy. Not because it's some simple rule, but because it's delicious. Spiritually, it's about implementing more control over ourselves, forgive more, pray more, work on ourselves more.

@DANtheMANofSIPA10 сағат бұрын
@@d3adp94 Can. 1251 Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Can. 1252 The law of abstinence binds those who have completed their fourteenth year. The law of fasting binds those who have attained their majority, until the beginning of their sixtieth year. Pastors of souls and parents are to ensure that even those who by reason of their age are not bound by the law of fasting and abstinence, are taught the true meaning of penance. Can. 1253 The conference of bishops can determine more precisely the observance of fast and abstinence as well as substitute other forms of penance, especially works of charity and exercises of piety, in whole or in part, for abstinence and fast. Theres a dispensation in America but there is still a required sacrifice on all Fridays for Catholics. Norvus Ordo priests poorly catechize their catechumens and parishes so most Catholics dont know.

I was a vegetarian for over 30 years. As I got older, my body stopped being able to develop/tone muscle. The things that used to help alleviate my chronic health problems helped less and less. It was incremental. And I was aware of eating a balanced diet, getting fats, full protein etc. I suspect my chronic exhaustion may have been much easier to remedy if I had been eating meat. Since starting to eat meat again it's as if my body actually responds when I exercise. God didn't create all sorts of condensed specialised "Vegan Protein" shakes to make sure you don't end up wasting away if you don't eat meat. The vegan movement is being pushed very hard for a specific agenda - the seizure of farmland and the creation of food by corporates who will decide what you eat and have a monopoly and thus control. All the examples you give have been deliberately pushed to the forefront on social media to further this agenda. How do you know what those people's health will be like further down the line? Will you get an update?I am still struggling with eating meat due to my love of animals, but I think ultimately each creature on this earth is here for a specific purpose.
@letsreadbrothersКүн бұрын
Most of the meat the developed world eats comes from factory “farms”, not the kind of farmland you’re picturing. Those animals are fed using millions of acres worth of crops, so not sure why anyone would need to seize the factory farms. Whether plants or meat, your food supply is already monopolised, and pumped full of hormones. The only way to avoid it is to grow your own food. I eat meat of course but it’s also worth remembering that before our fall God created us to be plant eaters.
@user-ly3li3ex8cСағат бұрын
If it helps, you vould try to get more meat from kinds of animals that would overpopulate and hurt either us, other animals, or their own species if they weren't controlled by apex predators like humans. Deer and alligator come to mind

I was torn about it, but I have heard not to be too legalistic. I've also heard to eat in the "spirit" of the fast like just eat once a day but that meal might be meat. My understanding is the during the fast the point is to be uncomfortable and be more prayerful. Interested in anyone's thoughts. Of course I will ask my Priest either tomorrow after Liturgy or Monday at Catechism. Thanks in advanced

@letsreadbrothersКүн бұрын
You do get oil free tacos, or you can make them yourself, but something with such a small amount of vegetable oil is not worth getting hung up on. The oil fast comes from a time in our culture when olive oil was used on top of practically everything, and when it was stored in animal skins (so it was seen as containing blood). I don’t think you’d find any priest who would tell a layman not to eat tacos with oil in them. I guess these days our dietary equivalent is frying everything in oil, which we should avoid anyway.

Its a period of time in which you recalibrate your priorities, so accept the temporary downsides and submit your fitness goals to your spiritual advancement. Effectively it will most likely only delay your progress a little. Also, why the negative judgment on training for muscle building's sake? What makes strength a more noble goal in our contemporary society? Focussing on natural hypertrophy will get you the same health benefits and will make you reach your ideal physique which I argue is no less virtuous than reaching any strength milestones or sport performances. To me it just sounds like a facade, most people who (say they)* train for strength care about how they look but refuse to admit it because they think it is feminine.
@chumbucket6184Күн бұрын
If it was a facade we wouldn't be fat. I only care about looks to the extent that i enjoy the fact that strength training also improves my looks. And in my mind that is enough. In my mind it is impossible to bench 315 and look bad. Anything else is just vanity and insecurity to me. No woman is gonna care or be able to tell the difference anyway, as long as you have big arms and chest and abs it's all they see. And i don't care either. I suppose bodybuilding has a place as a sport just to promote the beauty of the human body but to me personally it has no appeal.

I’ve been meat based for 7 years now and the best thing I that happened to me was getting rid of the plants and carbs I was eating
@letsreadbrothers18 сағат бұрын
He’s an Olympic weightlifter, not a powerlifter. Also, steroids don’t mean anything if you don’t have nutrition and training down. It’s not a magic formula that suddenly makes you sprout muscles. Like the vid said, we can argue forever, but there are too many super fit and healthy plant-based people to say you *need* meat. You may find meat-only work best for you, and that’s great, but it’s not essential to a healthy life. I’ve previously done 100% plant-based for years, and thrived, and currently eat meat and no carbs, and still thrive.

➤ I used to do bodybuilding and balance fasting but They DONT GO TOGETHER! Please here me out🙂! ● The purpose of bodybuilding is to pack muscle and to grow our flesh: the exact opposite of fasting which is to punish your body to make it weak and lean so that your spirit grows. Polar opposites! ● What is the point of fasting if we keept eating the same calorie, and maintain the same muscle mass? It's just a food switch but nothing more. The reason poultry and meat are prohibited is because they build you, eating protein rich plants purposely to gobble those proteins is no different than eating meat. Where is the hunger, the body aches and the fatigue coming from fasting. If we don't experience that then we know we're not doing it right. ● As a Christian food is meant to satisfy you hunger and bless the Lord for his nurture. Bodybuilding contradicts spiritual building, why do a Christian want to pack additional muscle mass than what has GOD has given him, for what spiritual purpose? You can't have 2300kcal a day and spritual ascension at the same time. ● I don't mean to upset anyone here. I'm just explaining my honest opinion. ● Have a wonderful day!
@letsreadbrothersКүн бұрын
Forgive me for saying so, but you are missing a few key things: • This is about strength training, NOT bodybuilding. These two things are very different. • Maintaining strength is NOT the same as building strength, so you *will* be eating less. • Unless you are a hardcore tonsured monastic (which nobody here is) fasting should not be leaving you feeling weak and fatigued. We have jobs to go to and families to take of. In fact, priests make a point of stating that if your fast is negatively impacting your physical health, you need to stop or amend it. Appreciate what you’re trying to say though, your heart is clearly in the right place. Hope you have a wonderful day too!
