Thanks for doing this series. I am putting a 383 small block with a MSD fuel injection into my 1971 Chevelle. It's not exactly the same but I am sure this will give me some good information. Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks Larry... yeah, agreed it's not identical. But, you should definitely get some ideas of what, and how to, install yours. Thanks for the comment, and see you next time!

Going FI with my new big block setup (Edelbrock Pro-flo 4 intake). I got a good deal on the FiTech 50005 surge tank and plan on using it. My builder was concerned that the FiTech may starve for fuel, but this unit holds 1/2 gallon of fuel. Have you ever heard of any such issues?
@FastMonty
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
That's a DUAL force fuel unit, right? As long as the fill pump can keep up, you're good. (My single pump force fuel unit worked fine with an electric carb pump, and my engine is 467 Cu in. if that helps with your comparison?) Have fun!

Hi Monty, I haven't watched the entire series of this FI install yet so you may have answered this question. Since you are mounting that little force fuel mini surge tank in your trunk what is the pressure loss to the TB? Is 58psi being maintained? I suppose the 58psi is for wide open throttle and is not needed all the time. Can you adjust the regulator on that little pressure tank if you need more at the TB? Thanks.
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 2 жыл бұрын
Good question... there is no pressure loss. If the Throttle body see's less than the 58 psi, it'll turn itself off, or will not fire the injectors. At the end of this playlist you'll notice I opted to get a baffled tank, with a Camaro SS pump. Have fun!

I have just installed the holler sniper in my truck . I have the in cab gas tank . So my pick up comes from the top of my gas tank down under the truck to the Holley in line fuel pump to the sniper . With a return line to the top also . Runs great till the tanks less then half full then I bog out and starve for fuel . So will this help me ? I was told this would fix my fuel issues by constantly feeding the sniper even when my tank is low
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 2 жыл бұрын
Great Question. It sounds like your fuel pick up is not near the bottom of the tank. So, switching to this "reservoir" system, will still have problems if you can't refill the reservoir. I would focus on the root cause of fuel starvation. Unless I miss understood? OR, is the inline pump trying to overcome gravity when pumping out of the tank? Most inline pumps, need to be gravity fed from the tank. Let me know...
@Cdawg1871980
@Cdawg1871980 2 жыл бұрын
@@FastMonty yea it’s a gravity issue . So maybe I should add a welded fitting under the tank so the fuel drains easier ?

You referring to the ForceFuel unit? It's awesome. What's not awesome is the Holley pump I used to fill it up. So, if you're planning on using it in your engine compartment utilizing the mechanical fuel pump to fill it up, do it. I recently upgraded to an "in tank" LS3 pump from a Gen 5 Camaro. That comes with it's own set of challenges too, but I love it! It's at the end of the FiTech playlist, or you can see it here... kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6SZkpWLqdeJiKs Have Fun!

How has the fitech system working so far? Won’t it work with Oem pump? ( mines electric for 87r10
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 2 жыл бұрын
It's working great! Are you referring to the Mechanical OEM pump? Yes, it will, but since I'm mounting the new pump in the trunk, running a line from the mechanical pump, more than six feet, is not recommended. One, it's another line to run the length of the car. Two, there's probably a head pressure drop at that length. Does that help?
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, just re-read your comment... if your OEM electric pump outputs 60psi, constant pressure, yes, it'll work. But, if it's a Pulse Width Modulated pump, it will not. Let us know what you figure out...

I’ll be doing an edelbrock TBI with the fitech fuel pump in my 69 convertible cutlass so I’ll be watching closely. I would be a little concerned about electrical interference with your stereo equipment back there. Let us know if you get any humming or static.
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 3 жыл бұрын
I like your plan ! I'm curious to know how loud the pump is too... I have no idea, yet. I'll definitely film as much as I can. As for the stereo, that's funny... cuz, I rarely listen to it. :) I already have some alternator noise, so not so sure I'll be able to tell if the pump adds anymore... Thanks again for the comment, and good luck on your build!

Good video Very comprehensive set of information. One question though. Why are you using the Holley inline pump? Isn't it super loud? I am switching to a in tank pump just because of my problems with a pump like this. Could you use your mechanical pump to initially prime the FiTech? The rest of your build is high dollar/high quality. Just curious. Thanks
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And, good questions... One, I'm not wealthy, and can't always afford the most expensive solutions on the market... AKA, custom tank and in tank pump. So, just trying to stick to a budget here. :) I don't know how loud the Holley is, yet... If it's too loud, I'll have to come up with a Plan B. Your last question about priming, yes, (I thought I mentioned it in the video) but, the intent of the Force Fuel unit is to mount it in your engine compartment, and utilize your current mechanical pump, as the supply pump. I'm just trying to get creative with hiding it in the trunk... we shall see how it goes! Thanks for the comment!

I know this is an old comment but what model number in-tank pump did you use? Is it an OEM style pump or a high dollar in-tank lift pump? I was thinking of going with a 1985 5.0 mustang in-tank low pressure pump but if you are using one that works well I would like to know what it is. Thanks.
@mikeplat4745
@mikeplat4745 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you know but you can't mount that pump flat on it's back as you have mocked it up. It's best vertical but if you go horizontal it has to be on it's side horizontal with the return at the highest point. I hope you didn't start drilling holes yet.

Fitech has two different types of fuel management canisters why did you pick this one over the other. I'm going to take a wild guess to my own question because this one can be installed horizontally?. Also why did you want to run the battery in the trunk
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 3 жыл бұрын
No specific reason for the Force Fuel I got... it came with the master kit. I do like how it can be mounted in almost any direction. I put the battery in the trunk because it cleans up the engine compartment, and adds more weight bias towards the right rear. (Also keeps the battery away from heat, which severely reduces it's life) Hope that helps...

@@ihave35cents95 Yeah, I heard that. Hence my trunk mount. And, I didn't have to run a return line from the Throttle Body. @@FastMonty I looked at that tap bung for the return that you have on your video. I need to look into the in tank pump because I have a weird gas tank on the Thunderbird it's one of those vertical tags. I have no problem with that fuel Supply the way you ran it but if I have to put it in my engine compartment I heard complaints that it's pretty loud. The problem with the Thunderbird Community is the fact that it's a luxury car in the lot of people don't go this far as to modify them it's either a seventy-five-year-old that shows concourse at a car show or the lowrider community.

@@ihave35cents95 Also check Holley's intank pumps. They have one with no return, for stock tanks. I'm thinking about getting it. The only thing that's loud is the pre-pump I'm using.
