L78 was factory installed, not dealer installed. And, the final drive ratio in 4th gear was 1 to 1 or one crankshat revolution and the trans ouput shaft made one revolution as well. Therefore, rpm at highway speed was the same regardless of which trans option. The rear axle gearing determines if highway RPM is higher 3:73 or 4:10 gears will increase engine speed, a 3:31 or 3:55 gear would reduce engine speed in high gear, but will accelerate slower.

Beautiful original car. If I can give you one tip to make it more correct, the headlight doors are wrong. This is a very common problem and I see more incorrect than correct, so don’t feel bad. The headlight doors, often called extensions are painted to match the Malibu Grille you have an extra bright line running through both headlight doors. The two bright lines are to run through the the extensions to match the grille. Look closely and you will see three bright lines running through the headlight doors. Once you see it, you will know why they are wrong. Unfortunately, headlight doors are not available for the SS, so you have to repaint them to keep two bright lines to continue throughout the entire front fascia. Most people will never notice there is an issue. I guess that’s why so many 67 SS’s I see are incorrect.

Very well presented video on a pristine 67 SS 396 Chevelle. I can relate to the bias ply tires finding pavement grooves and walking around. Congratulations on all the awards and accomplishments. I an so glad it was restored back as it was. 👍👍

I thought ALL 66-67 Super Sport Chevelles HAD 12 bolt posi-trac rearends in them outta the GM factory? 🤔 I obviously could be incorrect but yeah! The 3 speed saginaw manual trans was the base transmission in the SS Chevelle then in 66-67. Lotta people think that they all were 4 speeds but, no..They ALL came with 3 spd manuels less ya payed for the 4 speed....THAT might ALSO imply with having a 10 bolt rear (for base) like yours, but it seems, I distinctly remembering lotta guys ALWAYS saying that THAT was one way to ALSO KNOW IF the car in question looked at WAS a TRUE Super Sport....THAT, and the 3/8 fuel lines opposed to 5/16 which only the SB and straight 6 cars had. I'll have ta look into the rear end SS facts....Happy Restoring and Cruizin.

Reminds me a lot of my 67 Buick. I went bias ply tires. It's fine at 65 to 70 in CA on freeways 80 I get a shake. Radial tires were a option in 67 on Buick's same as shoulder belts and disc brakes.

It's absolutely beautiful and I would take it in a heartbeat however there are some aspects that are not correct. The Headlight bezels and grill extensions are not black matching to the SS grill. The blackout of your grill is correct as the reproductions are being manufactured correctly but notice that the upper and lower black out is not matching your headlight bezels and grill extensions. There is a reason for this but will take too much to explain here. The radiator does not appear to be a Harrison. An original shifter ball is solid chrome, you can see this is factory brochures for validation. Factory original hood bumpers on the fenders are much thicker than the reproductions. I know because I has many original unmolested 67's and I have purchased NOS ones as well. The cowl plate should be painted, not natural.

These '64-'77 GM A-body's were referred to as 'Intermediates". IMHO I believe the hood configuration is easily the most discernible difference between '66 & '67, though the tail light panel demonstrates its own specific styling changes. Overall, the '66 has the more sustaining, iconic look of the two that finds a place in the heart of THIS 74-year old! It's incorrect info. here to state that, '...in order to get disc brakes you would have to get the larger rally wheels.' WRONG! Quite the reverse was true.

Thanks for the comments. Your info about disc brakes...specifically referring to the 1967 SS models...is contrary to everything I've read or been told. However I may have been mislead, so please let myself and those on my channel know if you have supporting information proving it was possible to get disc brakes without the Rally wheels.

100% stock/original? Black paint missing inside trunk on rear panel. Alternator mounted wrong. Wrong headlamp bezels and grille extensions. Disc brakes came standard with the rally wheels. The M22 was not available in 1967 SS 396 Chevelles. Shoulder belts were available in 1967 under RPO A51(std belts) or RPO A85 (deluxe belts).

According to NHRA blueprint engine specs for 1966/1967 396/360hp, 350hp there is no difference in the camshaft lift spec. the HP difference was not due to the cam.

So what that 'an SUV of today' are so much quicker... We are talking about a powerful car made 55 years ago!! I mean, come on!!!!! So, for another lame comparison, let's look at what was made 55 years before the 1967 Chevelle... That would be 1912! The year the Titanic (Olympic?) sank. So... would anyone have seen any legitimate reason to compare those? In other words, don't make such comparisons at all when you are talking about a car like this! Compare it with its competition from back then! Thank you. I absolutely love that there are still some examples of cars like this one that is still like it left the factory in '67!!! Lastly, I have owned three 1967 Chevrolet Chevelles over the years-- Albe they Malibu's.
