Adipose releases estrogen and extra estrogen increases the risk of breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers because those types need progesterone and estrogen to grow. This is well researched and documented. I feel so bad for her and more people need to know this. I hope that one day this is as well-known as smokings link to lung and mouth cancer.

It’s so true. This is a medical fact. And to me, I can often tell when a woman’s obesity is messing with their hormones, often estrogen. There’s a bit of hair loss, facial hair… menstrual problems. Heavy, heavy periods. This isn’t a joke or fatphobia, this is science.
@Cattleya6911 ай бұрын
This is also why overweight girls tend to start puberty early. Both being overweight and starting puberty early (first menstrual period before age 12) are risk factors for breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and uterine cancer. There seems to be a link.

This woman is so brave for speaking up about her experience, and it’s so so important. As a medical student who has seen patients in similar situations, it doesn’t get discussed enough! Many obese women have underlying conditions that can affect their menstrual cycles like hypothyroidism or PCOS, so the red flag symptoms of uterine cancer often go unnoticed
@sandpiperr Жыл бұрын
As a medical student, you should be sure to talk about how obesity is a symptom of PCOS. No not all women with PCOS are obese, in the same vein, not all obese women have PCOS. However, PCOS increases risk for obesity. I don't know why doctors refuse to talk about that!

@@fitfatty211 from what I understand, there's the original HAES - being the healthiest you can be at the size you are with the goal not centering weightloss as the be-all end-all of health, and there's body positivity/fat acceptance HAES - you can be super morbidly obese and it doesn't mean you're unhealthy. Obesity increases the chances sure, but so does drinking alcohol, eating certain chemicals that are FDA approved, or living in certain areas - and how many of us still drink, eat red dyes, or live in unideal places? Our current standard of living makes it hard to avoid carcinogens even with the most health conscience people. I'm glad she's working to better her chances in fighting it and I hope she doesn't beat herself up over why she got this diagnosis in the first place.

Okay I hate the term FUPA because no one can agree on what it is! Is it the lower belly or the mons pubis? No one agrees! Either way, though, you're incorrect. Fat that you can see in the lower belly and the mons pubis is subcutaneous fat, which is not the dangerous hormonally active kind. It is the visceral fat, the kind that is under the abdominal muscles around the organs that is hormonally active and increases risk for cancers.
@jesmey4902 Жыл бұрын
@@foolishlyfoolhardy6004 yes, it's the viceral fat that is hormonal active and where is this fat? Around your inner organs. Where are your inner organs? In your belly, stomach area. She's on an "anti-inflammation" diet and has changed her tune saying people shouldn't be judged for what they choose to do with their bodies including losing weight and all. Sounds a lot like code forewarning she's about to lose weight. Seeing her anti-inflammatory breakfast, she didn't come up with that on her own. A doctor told her to eat like that. She's listening, so whatever showed in whatever medical test must be something consequential. I don't feel sorry for her, honestly. She has the resources to put up a fight against whatever's wrong. The people who gained weight under her influence, with her in their "For You" pages telling them it's great being morbidly obese, may not. I don't wish her harm. I just don't care. Tess and the movement she's a leader in is why this girl is in the situation she's in. At just 25 years old, staring down death.

I hope she is able to overcome and heal from this cancer. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer caused by being overweight. Hugs for you and yours with your loss!! I can vouch for obesity being a root cause for cancer. I was SO lucky, my gynecologist discovered that I was pre-cancerous. He sat down with me and explained how having fatty cells could lead to a build up of certain cells in the uterus, which can and often times does evolve into cancer. IMO this DOES mean that being overweight can CAUSE cancer. After I lost the weight, I am no longer pre-cancerous, which is why I am SO thankful and proud of her to shining a light on this!! Edit: While I can't remember the exact terminology, I do know that it had to do with the estrogen in our bodies. Being obese the fatty cells DOES affect our bodies how our body deals with the estrogen needed!

I think even more pressing is that getting to the doctor to have exams can be difficult for obese women. Take ALR for example. She didn't go for years and years and she was bleeding for years at a time until she finally went, which she blames her weight on for not having the courage to go in the first place. Her cancer probably could have been caught even earlier had she gone for a regular exam given her symptoms. It's not yearly anymore in the US, but symptoms should prompt a visit at least, and if you're bigger and thinking you're too embarrassed...go! They've seen everything and they just want to help you!
@creatrixZBD Жыл бұрын
She went to the damn ER. (Nobody knows if her account of the bleeding is true, at the least it is highly exaggerated). She never even gets a GP for anything. ALR has nobody to blame but herself. She makes such a song and dance about stuff but never does anything significant about it. Even now, she has lived in a new state for months, hasn’t even started hooking in with health services. It’s the first thing most of us with chronic health issues do when we move somewhere new. It was a huge priority for me to find the right GP asap. And then educate myself on the available services in my new area, registering with the relevant ones.

As someone who had a very real cancer scare and still isn't in the all clear, this is what is up. If you're a woman and you have a lot of fat, that fat fucks up with your estrogen and repro organs big time. It isn't about feelings, but facts, the fatter you are, especially in the middle section, the more fucked you are. I lost around 90kg to get surgery and my life has gotten so much better, sure I did gain around 10kg back in 2 years but my initial weight loss wasn't done in the most realistic of ways, but out of sheer goddamn hurry to get surgery. It's a lifestyle and mindset change, you have to absolutely brutally honest with yourself and no amount of yasss girl shit is gonna help with that unless you do the work. You can love yourself, accept yourself all the while losing weight and making changes, but this HAES bs has fucked over too many women, men too I bet. All I want is for people to focus on their health, not just come across as positive or whatever the fuck they're pulling here.

I've seen a few people pass from cancer, and others who have gone through treatment and beat it; it's one of my biggest fears but also one of my biggest motivators to try and live as healthy of a life as I can. I just started yearly screenings for various types of cancer this year due to family history, and got my last results back last week with everything clear. I know it's likely I wouldn't have anything this young anyway (my family has had it after 60+), but I was still nervous and can't help but wonder if that may have been different if continued on the path I was in my teens/early 20s. I was the only obese person in my family and a part of me wonders if I had fallen into HAES and fat acceptance back then and didn't lose weight, if it's possible I may have got it young. I've had three friends who had cancer already when we were in our 20s; one passed away at 23. It feels like it's becoming more common now to get it younger and younger, and I really wish the HAES crowd would think about the implications when they say things like, "health isn't a moral obligation" or condemn people who want to lose weight for their health. I don't think people who say this have ever faced the reality of life changing health issues. It's one of my biggest triggers when I hear people dismiss the importance of being healthy, or don't take it seriously. You have the autonomy to make the decisions you want relating to your health, of course. But why would you want to actively choose to be unhealthy? Your health is all you have. Do they understand what it's like to live with chronic illness, or terminal illness? How much it impacts and changes your life? It may not be an obligation, but it does impact you and the people around you who care about you and want to keep you in their lives. Sometimes, you get unlucky and things happen that can't be prevented. But I don't want to hurt the people around me by making bad decisions that lead to poor health outcomes if there was a way it could have been prevented. And I want to be here as long as possible, and as healthy as I am able to be to enjoy life with the people I care about.

I feel so badly that it took CANCER for her to realize her health is impacted by being obese. I hope she pulls through and gets better ASAP! ❤

Wow, that poor woman. I have PCOS so I'm at increased risk for endometrial cancer. In fact, I had a scare in 2022 when I thought I had it, but I'm 10 years older than her...which is still too effing young when it comes to getting cancer! Luckily my biopsy was negative, but I was out of my mind scared. Which is also how I know that endometrial cancer that had spread to the bladder, even just the outside, is VERY serious!

She is so open and brutally honest about it, she´s not afraid to speak up, what a great human being, I wish her all the best! Also, I HATE it when people say ItS hEr OwN fAuLt, dont be judgemental! Some people smoke, some people take dr*gs/alkohol, most of them went through severe trauma and inhuman experiences, believe me, I know what I´m talking about, you never know what someone went through, and saying its their fault and they dont deserve help? If you have that mindset work on it, lets show love, understanding ad compassion towards eachother ^__^

Jordyn is so funny and has always had such a good attitude; I knew this day was coming and I’m so happy for her. Praying the cancer is eliminated from her body and with her youth she’ll be able to turn this around once and for all

at her current weight, if she's truly consuming only 1200-1500 calories a day, the weight will fall off rapidly for a good while. Good luck to her. I can't even begin to comprehend what it feels like to be obese or morbidly obese...I pray for anyone struggling with this.

The thing about the FA movement is that I wouldn’t have minded it at all if they only focused on how fat people are being treated in general. I don’t think it’s cool how society tends to treat them with disrespect, mockery and cruelty. I would’ve been on board, if the focus was to bring attention to those issues. And I do think beauty is a subjective and fluctuating notion; there are plenty of absolutely stunning obese people out there. I would’ve supported that kind of positive influence. But then they started claiming that obesity is harmless. That you can be totally healthy regardless of how much weight you gain. And that’s just factually incorrect. Obesity IS a health risk, regardless of how much you love your body, or how beautiful you are. And I guess that’s what irritates me. They’re spurring each other on and they attack/ostracise those who acknowledge that they want to lose weight. It’s like a cult.

I wish this woman well but I’d be very curious to know what people define as “glorifying obesity.” To me, joyfully stuffing your face with junk food and mocking healthy eating seem to fit that bill, even if you’re not pushing dangerous narratives about weight having no impact on health. I hope she continues on a healthier path.
