nice to see the hobby advancing, but it amazes me how heated some get over DJI vs Shark Byte. Interested to see how this progresses in the coming year. Like you said, these are just toys that help us have fun and escape from the daily drama....no need to bring drama into the hobby. Thanks for the "Family Friendly" channel!

The fact that Shark Byte could be mounted in a whoop is quite a game changer and with combination of using "already had" goggle to most of people giving more added value. I guess it's true that this could be Beginning of the End of Analog :)

I've been waiting for this review !! Excellent work Nick, really gave a good look at this product. My opinion is I'll NEVER buy a DJI product, so I'm really excited to see this. Version 1 of this , I'll wait , and see how it's progressing, but I have a lot more respect for Fatshark's efforts to bring digital to us. Before everyone starts bashing me, remember, it's an opinion. You buy what you want, I'll buy what I want. DJI will get along just fine without me. As for the footage, I would have to see it in the goggles, KZbin is just too hard on HD footage.

Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. The two options others that have come up with that I think is also interesting and maybe something that could be done in short order is to separate OSD from the recording, or have the ability to disable it and another to add onboard recording to have the best possible recording.

90% of my flying will be a King Kong ET115, and the whoop board is the reason I'll go this route. That, and I also have HD3's, and on Social Security, I'm not starting over with DJI. But it's the whoop board that's won me over. Just need to be able to see those branches and power lines better, and Shark Byte seems to do it well enough. Not DJI quality, but half again better than analog. Thanks for the video!
@RADERFPV

Gotta be honest Nick, I'm not too sure about this. When I first started seeing footage of it, I was really impressed initially. But the more footage I see, the less impressed I am. It does look better than anolog, but honestly not by that much. It seems to do better indoors than outside, likely the camera. I know, I know, I need to see it in the goggles to really get a feel for it. But in all fairness, that's not needed for the DJI footage that's out there, it all looks good, goggles or youtube. I do like that we're getting away from analog though, and I think this is a great option for whoop and toothpick pilots. For larger quads or a more polished experience, well, we know what folks should get for that, lol ;)

@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 3 жыл бұрын
Sure, I don't think it has that desired GoPro esq look to it and I do think its not as likely to get those flying primarily 5inch quads. I wonder how it would look at 4:3, which could be coming sometime soon....or that is the word on the street. I am hopefull with time we see camera improvements as well as firmware improvements. The tighter "competition" comes the tougher the decision but better for everyone using one system or another.
@badipaddress

Totally agree. I was initially impressed, some footages are really good (some more than others) but... 1) it's better than analog, but no SO MUCH. 2) DJI, from what I saw on YT, is on another planet. Still, it is remarkable that we can have a digital fpv system on a 75mm 2s whoop.

DJI's image quality is superior, but I can stick this on my existing goggles, stick the board in my Armattan Tadpole, and Bob's yer uncle, as Andy would say..! Then, with the same goggles, I can easily fly all my analog whoops. Yay! Plus, I just feel good supporting a company that's contributed massively to this hobby's very existence from the beginning, and supported it and the community for years, in numerous ways. No, still no power button (grrr), but their products are good and their customer service is second to none!

I would like to know more about signal penetration on same mw output compared to analog and dji. Because that signal penetration is what keeps me going with DJI. Image quality is secondary, and I can imagine when Foxeer makes a Shark Byte cam, that would boost image quality for it through the roof
@jackdowns6122
@jackdowns6122 3 жыл бұрын
The reason DJI has such better penetration isnt that the signal magically has less noise, its that the goggles have a self healing telemetry link that can ask for a retransmission of lost bit

@attackemartin
@attackemartin 3 жыл бұрын
@@jackdowns6122 well that doesn't change the fact that I want to know the signal penetration of Shark Byte. No matter how DJI is doing their stuff. I can fly with flyable, non stuttering image, where I would be in snow with analog. For me it's just about the performance, I don't quite care which company releases what, it just has to be the best for my usage, since I do that for a living (I'm one of that 1% Nick talked about :D). So in short: would love to see some examples or hear insights about overall signal penetration. Better than Analog? Worse? I'm open minded about Shark Byte at the moment, so I'm just collecting informations about it :) will test it myself soon(ish)
@BmoreVisuals
@BmoreVisuals 3 жыл бұрын
@@attackemartin worse than analog, i used the sharkbyte and rapid fire in the same location and my rapid fire module performed better. The break up from the sharkbyte system gets really bad when you start going behind objects, with analog you can see through the break up ans have a chance to get out of it. Unfortunately with shark byte it freezes and glitches, its a common thumbnail people are using for sharkbyte vids.

Excellent review as always. I feel like now interested any person might be in this depends on what they fly (size). As someone who doesn't get many wind-free days and not a big enough house to actually fly in, I personally stick to 3 inch and bigger (at least for now). As in regards to price, I'm kinda torn. I think the price is alright for someone who already owns a decent pair of goggles, however if you do not the price is going to end up similar to DJI as for initial buy, anyway. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. In my current situation (and as someone who already owns DJI and my old goggles are the ev800D's) I am happy I picked DJI. That said, I am looking forward to Orqa's open-source digital FPV system too.

If DJI could manufacture a whoop board, it would be game over for Shark Byte, but as it is, i quite like the thought of an add on onto your goggles, it's defiantly a step in the right direction.

competition is good. Maybe DJI will have a response, I suspect there is some portion of the fpv market not going DJI for one reason or another, leaving the door open for Fat Shark.

I was looking forward to this when I found out about the whoop board because I fly mainly whoops and toothpicks. Now the price has increased from the $250.00. I will be giving this a miss. If I didn't have the hdo2 goggles this would cost $849.96 with one whoop board, one cam and two aerials. I paid $689.64 for the dji hd with two air units and the goggles. Thanks you for all you do. Keep up the good work and keep safe.

Deffs be sticking to analog for whoop and my racing quads. This really does appeal but like DJI will always be to expensive for me. I sold my HDO2 to pay bills :(, so just using a screen that sits in my lap now to race and fun fly hahaha. I'm not worried as these are as just toys and I'm still having fun, few laughs at the race this morning but I still kept pace with my little screen lol

I'm happy to see an alternative to DJI, and I think the picture quality looks fairly similar to that of the Nebula. The part of the Shark Byte I think should be significantly improved is the snow-like pixelization when the signal gets low. I'd love to see better algorithms for what actually gets output to the display when there is picture data missing. Maybe it doesn't have the processing power to do it, but if data is missing from a certain pixel, why not take the data from adjacent pixels and copy it into the missing portions? Kind of like the video upscaling functionality of a lot of TVs. Or at the very least.... If data is missing, don't have the default pixel color be bright white. Make it black, or dark gray, or any other color that isn't a super bright beacon of failed reception!

I would not be surprised if we see a change similar to what your thinking. My understanding is the VRx hardware is final but software is moving forward with changes on both the VRx and VTx.

I'm still really happy flying with my fxt viper goggles, and the option to integrate through hdmi input has me interested. For that matter, being able to sit down in certain environments with a laptop to use as your flying interface that friends could watch along with you while you fly could be fun. I'm definitely glad to see the whoop style board as an option for the vtx. I could see 3 & 4" builds really taking advantage of that.

I feel like the dji definitely has an edge on image quality (hopefully new cameras And firmwares will help), but the fact that the fatshark digital can fit in a 75mm on the first iteration is pretty encouraging. Hopefully subsequent versions will be even smaller since I feel like the dji isn't particularly viable for fun flying sub 2.5"-3".
