I am someone who has struggled with anorexia for most of my life. I'm 18 now, and I've only just started my recovery. I feel like having someone explain to be the importance of body fat would have helped so much. I live in a place where diet culture is rampant, and where already slim or healthy individuals are trying to lose weight. It made the think that all fat was bad, and I still thought that way when I looked like a bag of bones. A couple months ago I was diagnosed with superior mesenteric artery syndrome and nutcracker syndrome. These are rare cases where the arteries collapse onto part of the small intestine (SMA), or the renal vein (nutcracker). I now have to live with a feeding tube because I cannot keep food down orally. I feel like education like this is always so much more helpful than the fear mongering we see in the media today.

Animal fat is not the cause of obesity. The cause is HIGH INSULIN caused by eating a high carbohydrate high processed diet. If you need to exercise to keep the weight down you are eating the wrong diet. Subcutaneous fat is not the dangerous fat. It is visral fat that is dangerous to humans. To lose weight the answer is not eat less and exercise more. We are not bomb colorimeter. Our bodies behave differently with different food. Carbohydrates cause insulin to go very high. Animal fat hardly moves insulin. We have eaten animal products for 1000s of years we only started eating more carbs and oil about 100 years ago, and on high carb & oil about 40 years ago. Our health has gone down hill as the high carb, seed oil diet has gone up.

Man, I've struggled with weight issues ever since entering puberty. I tried eating less, doing sports but somehow gained weight even at 1800 cals a day (female). It took until I was 25 to get diagnosed with PCOS, an endocrine issue that affects hormone production, on top of being insulin resisistant. At 30 we found out I have Hypothyroidism as well. Now, I am 31, obese, pregnant and turned actually diabetic, I am receiving medical treatment for ALL of my issues (hormones, thyroid medication and insulin, asthma medication). And NOW I am FINALLY losing weight (at a healthy, monitored rate!), despite being 5 months pregnant and eating more than ever before (portion wise, barely changed my food except for eating whole grain pasta/bread instead of wheat). I am personally a little upset that it took for me to get this sick to finally be taken seriously and to stop being told to just try harder, eat better and do more sport. Fat has its benefits, but it is also a highly complicated matter that makes it hard for most people to either lose or gain and I think PURELY breaking it down to diet and excercise isn't the right thing either, even if it absolutely is a huge factor. There are too many factors that influence someone's weight and not ALL are in our control. It's also important not just to educate people on proper diet but to make healthy food, gyms or even parks/bike paths cheap and easily available/accessible and to reduce the amount of sugar and sodium in our everyday foods. Also, we should all strive to eat properly and excercise, regarless of weight, as that has many other benefits.

"no, it's calories in Vs calories out!" I hate when people say this 😂 like our bodies are just calculators. No! They're complex worlds of hormones, chemicals, processes, systems, cells! I'm happy you finally got diagnosed and got the treatment you deserve, it's so frustrating when no one listens.

I feel you. ❤ Got diagnosed with PCOS age 16 and now in my thirties I have type 2 diabetes. I was never overweight (even anorexic for some years), always had lots of muscle mass, ate extremely healthy, was a vegan for some years & vegetarian the rest of the time. No drugs, no alcohol, no cigarettes. Turns out my genes are to blame: The genetic lack of subcutaneous fat (due to FPLD2) in large areas of my body causes the fat to be stored inside my organs and blood, which causes problems. I may look slim and fit, but my blood and organs are worse than those of most obese people. Ironically there are people who are just the opposite of me: They have more subcutaneous fat tissue to store fat in, so they stay healthy even at a much higher weight. Bodies are weird. ❤️

@@rdsunshine34741 That is still calories in vs calories out. That is the only way to lose weight naturally, and it works 100% of the time. If you think it doesn't, you probably have estimated the calories in or the calories out incorrectly. Yes, some medical conditions make those numbers lower or higher than average, but at the core it is still just calories in vs calories out.

Glad a channel with so much reach is helping explain to people that worry about the little details like specific foods and specific types of cardio just aren’t that important in the grand scheme of weight loss. Doesn’t really matter if you pick the perfect fat burning ratio of exercise, whether or not you train fasted, whether you go vegan or carnivore etc. It all boils down to calorie balance. Just pick whatever combination of food and exercise keeps you in a consistent, manageable deficit and you will lose fat. Keep protein high and train weights hard to not only promote the growth/retention of healthy lean tissue, but also to ensure that the weight you lose is mostly or entirely bodyfat. It doesn’t matter if you “don’t care about being a jacked bodybuilder”, resistance training is very useful for anyone regardless of strength goals. A little bit of that “bodybuilder” training along with a deficit would turn SO many people’s health around. Regardless of if you prefer to fast, eat keto, go vegan etc

This is entirely anecdotal, but I found that when it came to losing weight nothing worked better for me than fasting. People get freaked out about it, but I found it very easy when done with a strategic approach. First I started by lightly cheating with intermittent fasting. I added a little coconut oil or butter to my morning coffee. The little bit of fat helped keep the hunger under control. It also helped the me feel less tempted to load on carbs. I’d also take a multi vitamin with the meal as they don’t sit well on an empty stomach. From there anytime I felt hungry I’d just drink water (occasionally with a pinch of salt). One meal a day on that method wasn’t too difficult. The big thing was to fill the meal with proteins, healthy fats, and high fiber carbs (aka a bunch of veggies). The moment I had easy carbs like bread or pasta the hunger would come roaring back the next day. After a week or so of that I found doing 24 hour fasts to be no problem and soon after even 48-72 hour fasts to be relatively comfortable. 5 days restricted to roughly 700 calories was no problem with 2 days of none. Assuming my daily burn was about 2k calories meant I could be in a 10,500 calorie deficit a week or roughly 3lbs of fat a week. Which tracked almost exactly with my results. I lost about 35lbs in 12 weeks (first couple weeks were the adjustment period).

00:00 Introduction to Fat Tissue • Fat tissue is getting attention because of its impact on appearance and health. • Covers fat, its functions, its impact on disease, and ways to lose it. • Fat tissue, or adipose tissue, is a type of connective tissue. 00:56 Structure of Fat Tissue • Fat tissue is made up of specialized cells called adipocytes, which store triglycerides. • As you gain weight, fat cells enlarge, causing fat tissue to become thicker. • Fat tissue develops new blood vessels, which can increase blood pressure. 02:01 Effects of Fat on Health • Losing fat tissue can lower blood pressure. • White fat tissue in adults and brown fat tissue in babies have different functions. • Subcutaneous fat and visceral fat affect health, with visceral fat being particularly linked to type 2 diabetes. 04:35 The Golden Mean in Nutrition • It’s important not to overeat or starve, but to eat in moderation. • Too little fat can affect health, especially in women. • Fat has important functions, including converting testosterone to estrogen and dihydrotestosterone. 05:32 The Solution to Hair Loss • Testosterone can convert to dihydrotestosterone, which leads to hair loss. • Irestore offers the Irestore Elite device to combat hair loss. • The device is FDA-cleared and drug-free, promotes hair growth, and has a 12-month money-back guarantee. 06:58 The Role of Fat in the Body • Fat releases fatty acids to be used as energy. • One pound of fat contains about 3,500 calories. • White fat helps retain heat, while brown fat keeps the body warm. 07:58 Functions of fat • Brown fat contains mitochondria, which produce heat rather than energy. • Fat functions as a protective cushion and endocrine organ. • Excess fat can impair insulin sensitivity and cause diabetes. 08:56 Problems with excess fat • Excess fat is associated with chronic inflammation and decreased testosterone levels. • High body fat is associated with cardiovascular disease. • The question of how to lose fat remains open. 09:53 Fat burning and calorie deficit • The intensity of training affects the burning of fat and carbohydrates. • To lose weight, it is important to create a calorie deficit, regardless of the type of calories burned. • Training at the limit of your capabilities is not recommended due to the risk of injury and overtraining. 10:49 The Importance of Aerobic Training • Training in the fat burning zone is beneficial for developing the aerobic base and mitochondria. • It is recommended to include high-intensity training and strength training per week. • Fat loss is a systemic process and spot reduction of fat is not possible.

One suggestion i wanna add tho, the US measurements are only for the US, as you all know that rest of the world uses metrics. So when you keep giving examples of lbs, inches etc, it breaks the concentration. could you also include metric values of those measurements (grams, kilograms, centimeters etc.), at least in parenthesis, so that the rest of the world doesn't have to pause the video to convert!

It's also interesting to explore the topic of body composition, or percent body fat as it relates to brown fat. A shift from a decrease in white fat to brown fat wouldn't necessarily mean percent body fat decreased, yet this could be missed if the only variable examined was what percentage of the body was made of fat.

Well Yes, But Actually No If you're eating a 2,000 cal a day diet but living a 1800 cal lifestyle, burning an extra 200 cal will put you at maintenance, and 300 cal will lead to _very slow_ weight loss. No change in diet needed. Granted, in practice that isn't very common, but trying to simplify fat loss to a simple pithy quote ignores how complex it can be and how much discipline it takes to do. I say this as a Nutrition coach and person who in 2022 dropped about 60lbs of fat from almost exclusively dietary changes, with a little exercise added in inconsistently.

I think any discussion about burning fat in the body should include Carnitine, since that's what is ultimately responsible for burning fat. As we get older, our body makes less and less of it. Luckily, we can get it in supplements. Taking 1000mg before every workout, and you will lose fat if you are consistent, working out 2 hours 3 times per week. That's all I do and my waist is down to 32 inches from 36.

Great video ... however we can't out-exercise a fatty diet ... and restricting calories is not sustainable, so the best way to stay slim long term is restrict dietary fat not calories. Also as you mentioned body builders I'm willing to bet they eat high fat diets to bulk up ... therefore cut open their muscles and they'll probably be full of white fat right?

I am struggling with losing fat percentage, since I started at 18. I never looked overweight or obese but fat percentage is always so hard to lose. With months of high intensity training, changing my food, intermittent fasting… I lose maybe 1%. I did ems training… everything. I keep getting same results: my mitochondria have no oxygen, my fat metabolism is at 0, acid build up is extremely high. Could you make a video about IHHT? And if that would work? My visceral fat is good, just the outside that is so difficult to lose. I am 31 now and just want to be healthy, even if I look good and feel good.

I stopped intaking nicotine after learning that it constricts the blood vessels. Being fat in addition to that is a double negative. I will probably cut out coffee soon as well or switch to decaf to stop intaking caffine. The less constricted my blood vessels with my moderate amount of fat the more easily my heart can run. Eventually my goal is to burn off the fat but in the meantime I’ve learned it’s best to not add insult to injury. My family on both sides have a history of heart problems so it’s probably best to not push things.

Hi! I have been trying to lose belly fat for a long time now. I lost a considerable amount of weight, but can't seem to lose belly fat. I have abdominal hernia (by birth) which hasn't been treated yet. Is it possible that I am not able to lose belly fat due to this? Because whenever I try to do intense abdominal exercises, it causes immense pain and also, if I lose even a little bit of belly fat, my hernia condition worsens. Any suggestions???

I would argue that a decrease in body fat is secondary in reducing BP. I believe the sugar (carbohydrate) restriction in most diets has caused a decrease in the release of insulin creating, at least temporarily, a decrease in blood pressure. Diets don't work. Only a permanent lifestyle change by eating low carbohydrate foods will work long term.

What do you all think? In Japan, a female cosmetic surgeon is currently coming under fire on social media after posting a selfie of herself making a peace sign in front of donated bodies, saying, ``There are a lot of people's heads lined up.'' Everyone is angry at her because Japanese people believe that people who have passed away should also be respected. This doctor and her boss say, ``It's OK because it's overseas,'' but is this normal overseas? In Japan, a medical student was expelled from school for playing with a donated body. Is it normal to roughly handle corpses overseas?

I've put on a touch of weight this year but what's more concerning to me than the subcutaneous inch or so fading off and on my waist is the visceral clumping I can feel internally. Lack of activity plus soda and energy drinks I guess! I hope to start 2025 by getting that pesky fat off my organs to improve my abdominal range of motion and feel less bloated. I might work in a 3 day fast like Gravity Transformation just recommended me plus some Zone 2 work like you suggested! 👍
