There like the bloody Beatles with those 3 part harmonies. Beautiful lads
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
Yeah. The harmonies work will. I did think that maybe Anna was hidden somewhere out of sight.

Another one for Newcastle. I’m tempted myself. Home of my maternal ancestors.

I won't get to see them live this year so this is very much appreciated!!

Nice. The black and white works well. Fringe Runner's one of my favourites, and R41 sounds very Leonard Cohen. Looking forward to seeing these guys for the first time soon.
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
🙏 yes, the lighting was a challenge, and the black and white helps with that, plus it suits the material, particularly R41 Cohenesque aesthetic. Hopefully we’ll get Nathan back to set off the synth stabs again for FR. where are you seeing them?
@thegrinderman10903 ай бұрын
@@LouSmith Absolutely. Is Nathan still in the band? I know he was doing a solo project recently. I'll be seeing them at Troxy in June!
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
Ah cool. He’s on strike I think is the situation. Hopefully they’ll reach an agreement.

Great footage Lou. Can't wait for the Newcastle gig! Spent the weekend absorbing the new album.
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
Newcastle should be good. Dunno if I’m going yet. I may do. I wanted to catch them somewhere other than here and the Troxy. How’s that absorption going?
@chrisstronach54953 ай бұрын
@@LouSmith Very well thanks. It's a bit of a grower. Not as immediate as the first 3 albums, but some interesting tracks. Gotta say it, but Saul is a miss. He added that extra frisson of depravity and weirdness 😂
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
@@chrisstronach5495 Same. They did have an album recorded from when Saul was still with them, but by all accounts it was an impenetrable drone landscape on one side with no lyrics, which had to be entirely rethought post him leaving. Nathan stepped up into the vacuum, donating a bunch of his songs into the mix, then a couple of re hashed Covid era acoustic numbers, so I guess it’s quite a mongrel of an album really. Religion for one, or R41 as has been already coined is one of my favourites.

@@LouSmith Tonight's Neecastle gig was magnificent. I think they should break up now and leave a great legacy. No flogging a dead horse. Quite frankly, without Saul it ain't the same. Still wonderful.
@LouSmithАй бұрын
@chrisstronach5495 glad to hear it. I’m going to catch them at the Troxy, but to be honest, I would much rather have seen them in Newcastle or Glasgow. Glad they delivered for you. Let’s see where they go from here.

Amazing as always! hope to see Nathan back in the band (his songs on the album are super) and that they'll add some dates in Italy

Thanks Garry. Yes to Nathan! Fingers crossed for you.

While the music is good, but not usually my type sound, I do have to say this looks absolutely incredible Lou. Amazing job.

Class performance. Fringe Runner sounding brilliant... did they play anything else from Serfs Up?
@LouSmith26 күн бұрын
I don't think they performed anything else from it for this set, but bobby's boyfriend reared its head on the tour.

@@LouSmith Nice! Thanks for the info and the great film

You're welcome. I may post some more from this show but the lighting was so poor, and non existent for Lias forays into the audience, I can't bear to watch them.

will never forget one of their lackies begging me for information on the whereabouts of ketamine for the band at a music festival a few years ago
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
Haha. The dissociative drug of choice for them. I think mushrooms or mdma in small amounts works for them too.
@martinemillier149021 күн бұрын
❤❤❤ Fringe Runner is definitely a better track when it is played live (the album version is not that strong).
@LouSmith21 күн бұрын
True of most of their songs, no? Even if the album tracks are good.
@martinemillier149021 күн бұрын
Well, you may be right but I didn't know the band 2 months ago so I'm still discovering... thanks to your videos online. I'm also currently reading Lias's book The Miracle of Failure.

@martinemillier1490 ash ah sweet. Well there’s the deepest dive into particularly their early live shows here on this channel, so you’ve come to the right place. Enjoy the journey.

Who played the bass Lou?
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
I was baffled at the disembodied bass sound at first, assuming it’d be Adam B, but there was another guy to his left, behind the pillar. I didn’t recognise him, nor could I capture him here.

@@LouSmith he signed my record as vector! not sure where else he plays though.
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
@@willyoufade well, that’s something! He was pretty low key during. Not anybody I recognise from the wider scene.

@LouSmith11 күн бұрын
@grahammcleod5456 yup. He's left the band. Have to look back in time to find Saul. This is the biggest video record of fat white family on the planet, so you've come to the right place. :)

Cheers for this, Lou! Will see them for the first time in Leeds in June. How long do they usually play for? I know most bands play for about 1 hour 30 but I keep seeing only 1 hour long gigs for fwf. I thought you would be the person to ask!
@LouSmith3 ай бұрын
I’d say likely somewhere in between. I’ve not seen them encore. Lias puts in a pretty hardcore amount of effort, so an hour and a half may be pushing it.
