Halotaku So many comments have been about this and I’m honestly thrilled people like the direction I’m taking her. I just thought she was such a great concept and design and that Apoc reaaally wasted her. Same with Siegfried.

Speaking of wasted concepts, PLEASE make Sieg more interesting as a character. I initially started watching the actual show after seeing Episode 1 of Apocrabridged, but I stopped because suddenly Sieg was the focus, and he just came across as a really boring character. I can see why Japan gobbled him up, but having the actual protagonist show up after being introduced to the MUCH more intriguing Kairi and Mordred and following them for a few episodes was a let-down. I'm glad that, so far, you're making him come off as a bit snarky, and I hope that this series makes me want to watch the rest of Fate/Apocrypha.

Halotaku I’m gonna have to disagree with you there. Fran’s development was subtle, but it was definitely there. If anything if the character has to spell out their motivations in a soliloquy they are less developed than being able to convey the same message in a few grunts and shouts.

And there are chants that let you ensure you summon a specific class of servant. Wow, Berserker's chant features a lot of cursing and screaming and references to ripping your enemies to pieces.

Achiles could cover his heel but....with armor he has its likely an arrow or blade will get to it first. So you question is a toughie since it would be whos weakness could you exploit faster

The Grail In A Nutshell: Basically, the Holy Grail is essentially an inert reservoir of magical energy, building up power as it exists, until it gets enough to do something, that something being a Holy Grail War. The Holy Grail War, aka Murder-Death-Kill, allows for spellcasters to be able to compete in a Battle Royale-style fight for the chance to be granted a wish. However, the Grail's potential magical energy, while immense, is not limitless, so the winner not only has to have something concrete to wish for, but also know of a way for said wish to be accomplished. And if the wish can't be fulfilled, the Grail goes inert again and there will be another Murder-Death-Kill later. Anyone in the comments that wants to add to this, feel free to, because this is kind of just the basics.

​@@Halotaku Well that is fine, but they never explain any of it properly, to me they are leaving it rather vague so later they can do whatever they feel like doing. Introducing rules, then forgetting about them or just saying stuff like the ‘Grail’s will’ or the ‘Grail’s true potential’. Then again this is Fate, as straight and clear with its story as a cocaine dealer in an FBI interrogation room.

It does seem like each Grail War tries to have its own set of rules to keep things from being stale and predictable, but it makes it frustrating when it comes to everything making sense. As for the "Grail's will", a living person was used in the construction of the Grail, and it has shown that it has a capacity for independent thought.

@@Halotaku More than keeping it from being predictable, they seem to use it as a way to write themselves out of a corner. And is not that they change things from War to War, they do it in the same one. First, they said that the Apocrypha War one of the factions needed to eliminate the other one and then have a regular Grail War, then they forgot about it because they decided that no, as long as you had the Grail you could use it at any time. And to me that is Fate’s main flaw: they just do anything and throw a long winded, convoluted and confusing explanation to try and sound more complicated than it actually is. I can enjoy some of it, but it is silly

Definitions also seem to change a lot. In the visual novel, specifically in heaven feel, it's stated that the "Grail" is a "source of unlimited Mana" (which I think is called the first magic). This works by opening a portal to the "origin" where all magic come from (hence first magic). But this explantation breaks down quickly when the Grail seems to have limits. Even tho this version would explain aphoc, easily. Six servants to open the portal, winning side get a wish, or then kill each other so it can claim a winner. (Which doesn't explain WHY the Grail needed to add another team...)

FranK Yeah, Achilles is nigh invincible without the attacker having divinity, so only Chiron can counter him. Karma is arguably one of the strongest servants lore wise, possessing invincible armor and able to fight against demiurge class beings while hamstrung by dozens of curses and having his armor stolen. Semiramis is an assassin who has first class magical abilities and possesses the hanging gardens. Atalanta is an archer from the age of gods and fought side by side with the argonauts. Mordred has the same specs as King Artoria, and even exceeds her in several places. Spartacus and Shakespeare are the only weak servants. Meanwhile, Avicebron has little actual combat ability, Astolfo’s noble phantasms have tons of restrictions, Fran is a servant from the modern era and is really weak as a result, Vlad can really only fight defensively due to him losing most of his power the instant he enters enemy territory, and gets weaker the longer he stays in there. Siegfried is decent, but his defensive capabilities are completely nullified by all of the opposing team due to their high grades, Jack went rogue, and Chiron didn’t participate in wars a lot, so while he’s a good fighter, he isn’t as well rounded, and typically can’t fight for long periods of time.

(one with a hunter coming across her washing and the other is orion who was her lover/best friend which her brother tricked her into killing) and she is a sworn virgin goddess everyone seems to believe she hates men which is wrong with her being a major patron of sparta which was an increadibly gender equal society for the time. admittedly , she is also less capricious than most of the gods in the greek pantheon with relatively low kill count compared to the massive amount of rape and murder for stupid things amount that pantheon indulged in. Of course it's extra funny if you've ever played fate go and realize shes actually a ditz thats so lovey dovy with orion, that when the player tried to summon him she hijacked his summoning to keep him away from other girls.

Well, may be, with this abridged version, we can finally address the elephant in the grail concerning Assassin of Red's abilities. The nasuverse wants us to believe that she is just an assassin, while possessing a wide variety of magical spells, and has performed great magical feats that most of the casters we've seen so far couldn't even measure up to. I mean who else is bothered by the fact that she can not only command a giant, ziggerat-like floating palace filled to the brim with magical traps; but also has enough mana to manipulate mages and servants alike and summon giant venomous serpents anywhere she wants?

In the light novel it is stated that she is duel classed basically meaning that she can be summoned both as an assassin and an caster. It's like Cu lancer and caster, both of them are the same person that are able to summoned as two different classes. The difference being that her powers aren't dependent on her weapon like Cu, her powers are present regardless of her class.

Frankenstein has a voice! Holy shit! Chiron's vocabulary and tone seem to be very different in this episode, compared to the previous one? The whole "3 of us vs. 3 of them" line from the last episode doesn't make much sense when there's 4 Black servants on the offensive. Siegfried's tired attitude towards the Grail War, like it's just another 'miracle' that people want him to perform, is well done. "Jesus, shut up!" I feel like the Servants all using modern slang (especially someone like Chiron) is going to get old fast. That said, the "Leeroy Jenkins" line was pure gold.

Thanks for the feedback! The reason Chiron sounds different is because he's being played by a different actor. CaptEagleVA is a new addition to the cast, along with several other actors like ElementalTurnip as Sieg and MewVenusVA as Roche.

I actually wasn't referring to Chiron's VA so much as the tone and the lines themselves. I feel like "Chiron. Demigod tutor and your Archer." and "next time, you're making the goddamn drug run" don't come from the same character. Maybe I'm just reading too much into things, though.

@secrettech18 To be fair, the Grail did acclimate them to their current setting, meaning they would know how to use the slang. And of the servants shown, only ones I noticed using slang were Achilles, Karna, Siegfried, Astolfo, and Cheiron. Not that many since its only 1/3 and one of whom is already dead.

OMG Caster of Black asking the real questions. Seriously I get story wise why the grail did what it did but logic and lore wise it really does not make sense. Still, applying that logic to the Moon Cell Holy Grail war wouldn't that mean Hakuno should have gotten 21 wishes? 128 competitors in 7 rounds, 8 if you want to count the final battle against Twice a round so doing the math (127 loses divided by 6 servants per wish) would give us 21.1666 continuously so rounding down for simplicity sakes gives up 21 wishes. The argument could be made in the Fate Extra series she's suppose to but ultimately after her wish she is found out to be a NPC error and gets erased but in Fate Extella Zero Male Hakuno survives and gets recognized as the Sovereign of Moon Cell so that should mean he is viewed as a normal Spiritron Hacker which means he should have gotten the wishes. Maybe i'm looking waaaay too deep into it or something but this anime gave us a layout of how the rules for extra servants work so I don't see why it doesn't apply to the Moon Cell Holy Grail war.

TBF, the entire Fate series requires a fair amount of suspension of disbelief, and normally, the show makes sure you're already quite invested before going into the insane details of how the Grail works. It's basically the same methodology Scientology uses to draw people in before revealing the whole Xenu crap, and we all know how it turned out when people found out that kind of information WITHOUT spending thousands of dollars to progress high enough to find out.

Moon Cell has different rules and guidelines the 6 servant thing doesn't count there. As for the Great War my current working theory is the Greater Grail they have is connected to an even higher grail which is what actually runs everything including the throne of heroes and is sentient and grail wars are its only source of true entertainment so while it could just ensure one guy and his friends don't all become masters making the Great Grail War is more fun for it to watch.

Spoiler for some lore dropped in Fate Grand Order....So to start in the case of this Black vs Red grail war it summoning more servants and choosing masters is to prevent the master's from grouping up together in order to hack the system, since the whole point of the grail war is for the masters and servants to kill each other in order to fuel the ritual them getting together works against that purpose (this contingency isn't triggered if it's just two or three masters working together from what we've seen of other wars). Now into the spoilery part, see the throne of heroes and the grail are two separate entities. The grail ritual is a man made ritual meant to give them access to "the route" which for mages is the "holy grail" of all magic to them, they did this by tapping into the throne of heroes...which belongs to the planet and is it's major defense mechanism among other things (sort of like if not the same as the counter force...see EMIYA). The original three families basically tapped into it and while they would argue otherwise...perverted it into the summoning system for the grail wars in order to fuel their ritual by you know heroes killing each other etc... Have to double check some of this but more or less the gist of the very DEEP lore surrounding the series and it's magic and the grail war's operation. So two sided war is a contingency plan of the ritual. Human's invented the grail war itself by hijacking heroic spirits for a death battle. And the grail in this series is a Greater Grail able to grant a higher tier of wish then the smaller manifestations...though by the end I think it's grown beyond even a greater grail which was probably the intent of this war and fits with the type of wish(es) that are made on it. (sentient as it can be though sentience is mainly from certain creator we see in this series who integrated herself with it).
