One thing I never understood... a shield is a fantastic melee Weapon, a terrific bludgeon, there are even treatises describing how to end people with them! And here it does next to nothing until the guy just figures out a couple of loopholes none of the other "heroes" ever bothered to figure out... because they never had to exploit their weapons...

But since the plot demanded it noone took the role seriously and treated him like a worthless leach that would coast by on the proper heroes work and glory. I LOVE how this starts, Naofumi complainign about Isekai and Truck-kun, then dies from tons of books falling on him, and 2 of the heroes say they died to a truck, and Naofumi not wanting to be embarrased for dying to books lies and says "fucking Truck-kun."

The fun part is, canonically, Motoyasu the Spear Hero died after two girls who were interested in him stabbed him to death. Essentially, he had a girl he was nice to and a childhood friend, and they were both yandere. So one girl decided to kill him and herself, so she stabbed him. Well, the other girl was there, so she grabbed a knife and stabbed him too, hoping to be the one to kill him so when she killed herself they could be together in heaven, instead of him and the first girl. Both girls stabbed the crap out of him and he died.

It's just another way he's different from the others. There's even an interesting tidbit about how the other 3 heroes aren't even the Holy Weapons' first choice for heroes, while Naofumi was the Shield's first choice.

tbf at the current latest LN volume... spoilers below Naofumi and Raphtalia seem to be close to becoming lovers... in the latest volume, Naofumi not only strokes her tail (which I imagine is a privilege that Demihumans will only reserve for those who are extremely close to them) but Naofumi also straight up asks Raphtalia if her name would be "Raphtalia Iwatani" if they got married... something he'd never normally say to her as it implies that Naofumi has marriage in mind, he also insisted on her addressing him as Naofumi instead of Master Naofumi, something that Raphtalia actually struggles to do considering how many times she's addressed him that way and the entire fiasco with the Naofumi's affection for Raph-chan and later the creation of the Raph-species (whom Raphtalia hates with a passion) only occurred because Naofumi was utterly enamoured by how much Raph-chan resembled Raphtalia So yeah, it'll be NaoTalia from this point forward!

one of my favorite isekai stories is an investagative drama in which some of the thousands of truck drivers accused of manslaughter/murder as a result of isekai events start sharing stories with eachother, notice just how many aspects of their stories match up, start making contact with others, and start looking into what the hell is going on when they realize that nobody has even pretended to look into (or quite possibly even noticed at all) why there are several thousand near-identical cases with near-identical "impossible" stories all being casually written off and invariably interpreted as fantastical lies of guilty murderers despite them often being corroborated by hundreds of bystanders. there's also ones in which it's all the same truck but that rout is easy to write and thus has been done so often that it's bordering on becoming a genre itself...the couple I've read were pretty weird, like, thomas the tank engine fanfic levels of weird.

I’ve got a theory regarding Truck-kun. What if it’s not just some random vehicle that just flattens the protagonist to send them to another world? What if it’s actually a god? Isekai takes the form of whatever it needs to to send the protagonist to the new world depending on how that world works. Whether it’s through reincarnation, or summoning. So for one person Isekai would take the form of a truck, a train, or a madman with a knife if reincarnation was the only way to get to the new world. For another person Isekai would take the form of a book, a scroll, or a ritual circle if the only way to get to the new world is through summoning. That’s not to say that other gods can’t send a person to a new world, but that tends to only happen if the god in question screws up. Either by taking the protagonist before his time, or having the protagonist live a horrible life when he wasn’t meant to. What do y’all think about it?

I am now very interested in how Motoyasu actually knows about Isekai and how his world became advanced enough to make toasters long enough for him to die from using one, since for the first you need people able to read and write to maintain and build the computers and their programming to play video games and such on while modern toasters where created in the 1950's meaning his world would have nukes... which if you don't have the written records on how to maintain are highly likely to blow up at some point and with MAD being a thing the moment one nuke goes off half the world is dead because a high number of the other ones will be fired in an automated response.

When I heard the intro song, I went, "Is that Amalee?!?. Sure enough it was, specifically "Samurai Heart" from "Gintama". I love your decision to use one of Amalee's songs. For those of you who don't know, Amelee & Nate Wants to Battle did amazing covers of both "Rise" & "Faith". The first two intro songs for Shield Hero. Still waiting on them to do "Sin".
