I keep on coming back to this. It is an awesome performance; wish i couldve been there. This album came out in '86. When i first listened to this, it was '91. I was and always will be a huge Maiden fan, and at the first Maiden show i ever attended, some kid next to me said, hey if you like Iron Maiden, you should listen to Fates Warning. The next day, i bought the Awaken the Gardian. That album is in my personal top 5 metal abums ever produced.

The fact that Arch can nail this song 35 years on just defies the laws of time... Massive respect
@flashyfrank57264 жыл бұрын
And the singer they have now can't do any of the songs any more, they make their music sound like what you hear in a supermarket to adjust to his voice and he sucks anyway. Why don't they keep with this singer or at least get someone who can actually do the songs? Are they afraid to fire Alder for PC reasons?

This song is not just an amazing song, is more than that, Arch voice after all these years hasn't change a bit, he is one of the all time best singers to ever step the earth. And we are living in the same time, we are the lucky ones.

This album is a must have for all music lovers.... And it reminds me of Mike Portnoy`s answer to how influential and innovative Dream Theatre was... He simply said, that they didn't do anything new, they just repeated what Fates Warning had done many years before them. ..

its criminal that these guys were the least recognized of the big 3. I heard No Exit when I was 10 years old, and grew up a Alder era fan. As I got older, my brother turned me on to NOB, TSW and ATG, and Arch blew me away. DiBiase was such an important part of their sound. I don't mind Steve Zimmerman on drums, but I am a huge Mark Zonder fan. I can always pick out a Matheos/Aresti dueling lead. those two just meshed so well.

Man. A defining musical moment in my life when I first heard this song and record. Bought No Exit first when It was first out, based on "Silent Cries," and quickly went back to Tower Records and bought Awaken, only to discover there was a different vocalist, but quickly fell in love with both vocalists, and the band. Beautiful, prog metal lament and hopeful story in one song.

These walls are stained engraved with pain You will find them under shadows casting shame Some it's all they've ever known Angels of the fortunate sons come and go... You may not Entities pass in the night Guardians and the Reaper fight The will to live shall win Mares of hope ride through their dreams Blinding light awakens sleeping dawn It seems it was all a dream, an endless dream I will wish upon a star I believe in you and if my will has strayed afar I remembered you Will you remember me I the one you sentenced Penance unabsolved Answer me, save my will Have you forgotten me Pace the hallway blindman For a million miles of stars His mind has seen. Think you may he lives in darkness We're the dark he's seen the light of dream Karen, she's been asleep forever I know she hears me She has so much to say, The machine shoots sparks Through her eggshell mind A tear streams from her face Into my hand, into my heart I'm a fire without a flame A helpless child without a name With broken wings catch me I'm falling I'm a question with no answer Who are you that takes my life away from me Unveil the boundaries of the black I had a dream I was you strong as the fire In your veins then when I called out your Name I would remain to witness the pain I am beyond silent black I will be back As your guardian Angels in white you have sacrificed You witness and bury the pain You walk hand and hand with the fear stricken child Strengthen the weak and the lame Have you seen beyond the unborn The pillar of penance and lore Perpetual journey into the realm The sovereign servitor

35 odd years on these lyrics still strike a chord. What a performance. Karen's been asleep forever, I know she hears me. She has so much to say. Machine tools sparks through her egg shell mind Tears stream from her face Unto my hand, unto my heart

He and a few of my other rocker friends didn't like it so I ended up with the tape. This music means so much to me words cannot explain. Gives me chills every time I listen to it.... Fucking bad ass. Man, I love Ray and Mark Zonder, but this lineup is magical. Jim and Frank are easily one of the most underappreciated guitar teams in metal. The new stuff is not the same with out Frank. It's good, but the guitar highlight on Winter Ethereal is his 1 solo.

What this band was thinking getting rid of John Arch. They didn't trade up.
@flashyfrank57264 жыл бұрын
Curious how these things work. They bring back their original singer, so what happens with the one who sucks? He sits out the tour and doesn't get paid? No matter since he sucks anyway, why don' they just keep this guy? They can't play any songs from Arch's error because Alder can't sing them, he never was a great singer and he sucks now. Why keep him? (Must suck to be him when his band tells him they don't want him onstage with them. Funny how at shows when Ray is singing, they will bring John out. It says a lot about their abilities and what the band thinks of both of them.

Good voice, but his vocal lines are sound the same
@MichaelHolmgaard8 ай бұрын
They need to just get Arch back as their permanent singer. I have huge respect for what Ray did once, but his voice today is so shut that it limits Fates Warning's output. It makes their music sound like a discount version of their early music. They simply cannot prosper without a powerful singer at the helm...
