Father & 3 Sons sing “Cat’s in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin | Ugly Kid Joe | Emotional

This song made me cry over and over as I was trying to learn it. The lyrics are just such a bold reminder of what it means to spend time with your children.
I decided what better way to spend time with kids than to sing and practice this with them. I recorded this nearly a year ago, but never posted because it wasn’t perfect.... and that’s exactly why I decided to post it now. Because it’s not perfect and what a beautiful memory. I’ll never get another chance to be with my 3 sons at that age. Thanks for this beautiful memory Jay, Kenny, and Sammy!! ❤️❤️❤️
This was a poem that Harry Chapin’s wife was writing. Harry added the chorus and put it to music and the rest is history.

What’s nice about this song that Harry Chapin wrote, I got emotional hearing it with the father playing and his 3 sons singing along at different intervals. At least there father is still around, my dad passed when I 42 died of Parkinson’s died at 78. I get emotional because they have there dad still, but I don’t?

Makes you really think how precious it is to be with your kids when they are growing up, before you know itm they are full grown and move out. I have 2 boys and when they were quite young and had to be watched at bath time I would take my guitar and sit on the bathroom floor and sing and play for them..Cat's in the Cradle was pretty much a standard, played often. It came from a poem Harry's wife wrote concerning how much time he was away from home on the road. Playing the song for my kids was my promise that I would not miss them growing up - and I kept that promise.

I would not have known about this song if it wasn't for Ugly Kid Joe. I wasn't even born when when the song was released by Harry Chapin. I showed up into this world 5 years later. I lost my dad suddenly in 2007 due to a heart attack. He was almost 60. My brother and I had just started talking two days before about what to do for his upcoming big day. Little did we know that he would have a big day coming up a completely different sorts, his memorial service. I was born disabled, and with medical insurance being ridiculously high due to me being labeled "High Risk", my dad would work his ass off in a job he didn't really care for. When I was younger, I didn't understand. I gave him crap about not being home enough to spend time with, and when he WAS home, we were always doing something stupid like going to Home Depot, or he napped during football games. We'd turn it off or lower the volume, then he'd wake up and claim he was watching it. It was that day in 2007 when the song Cats in the Cradle would cause me to bawl out my eyes just about every time I heard it, and your video was no exception. This was an insanely beautiful rendition of it. Too bad you didn't have just one more kid for the last verse. Your middle child though stole the show, not once, but twice. The little man was hilarious in the video and cheered me up a bit. Thank you.
