My daughter and I are of a no-gi background but we both love your videos of Millie and Ralph rolling. I love the detailed nuances you're teaching her. Like that minor adjustment to the kimura to bring it closer to the body. Those little details are everything, and it's so cool that she has progressed enough to be able to absorb the more detailed positioning. That arm drag just to show her that it's there was beautiful! Great teaching! I love to see that she is also developing her own little game. There was that one guard pass where I thought for sure she was going to do a standard knee slice but she faked it and rolled your leg for a side crush pass. Very sneaky! Such cool stuff! Thanks again for sharing these. We're following your example! The music is great too!

Mark McEathron bro this means so much to read this, thanks for the comments. Just fun rolls keys to making kids love Jiujitsu. I try not to push her too much as she really doesn’t enjoy competing, so much talent but dancing seems to have taken priority for time being 😂. I think what is a really important point is that those core fundamentals from the Bullyproof programme of areoplane base, spider kid, sneaky mount, crocodile control, spider swim etc have remained part of her Jiujitsu game from age 4 into adolescence. As much as people slate Gracie University that programme is outstanding for kids to learn to love BJJ. I’ve taken on board your point about continuing that series. Thanks bro. give us a like on Facebook Submit 2 Success

May I ask where you purchased your mats? They seem to be very practical.

These were from cannons U.K. but if you google any jigsaw mats they should be available pretty much everywhere, I’d stick to tatami pattern. if you are running an academy post covid I would steer clear of jigsaws personally, they tend to look great at first but after a year or so they loose their top layer and all that sweat, muck and everything else really gets embedded in them, no matter how much you scrub or mop them you can never get them fully hygienically clean. We switched to roll out dollamurs this year and wouldn’t go back! Pricey but worth every penny.

Thanks for posting this. I am the proud father of a 14 month old. I have a while before she's mat ready, but I do want her to join me one day. I think it will be good for her personal development on all levels. I don't plan to push her. I want her to see what it means to me and how it impacts my life. How did you get your daughter interested in BJJ? Any advice on what not to do on the journey? Big questions, I know, but our daughters are big people in our lives.

Ricardo Washington. Really Good questions. firstly make it fun and as you can see from this video, tons of playful flow rolling, personally I’m not sure being a dad and a coach at the same time have helped her development, maybe I pushed her too much at times, but BJJ isn’t for everyone. One thing I would say is wherever you take you daughter to train, don’t ever coach from sidelines. The only thing you need to say after the session is “I loved watching you train today” and how proud you are of them. I’ve seen lots of talent in Kids BJJ, resilience to stick it out to that level is key, constant encouragement and making it fun you increase that multiple fold. I’ve done another video somewhere in the depths of my channel on teaching children BJJ, it’s from the Bullyproof programme and focuses on silly games to teach them positions, it’s quite easily the best programme to get children to love BJJ, it’s all I used with Millie since she was about 4 years old, you can still see her using the positions from it in this video 6 years later.

@@ralphylad Thanks for the advice. Reminds me of how my father coached my brother and myself in basketball growing up. He always gave us affirmations and treated us and the other team members fairly. If my daughter gets into BJJ, I have his example to follow as well as your advice. That was really helpful. I'll search for the other vids on your channel. It's always great to have other mat dads to listen to. I picked up this book for her when she is old enough. It's a good little story and when she's ready I'll read it to her. www.amazon.com/Jiu-Jitsu-Me-Robert-Wilson/dp/1718191928/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Jiu+jitsu+and+me&qid=1595960932&sr=8-1
