I used to work at a builders merchants, one day we got a phone call, it was odd - The phone rang, then it rang again, the man spoke and said he was translating, whilst talking to the customer through an online chat and dictating what he said. I gave the man my time. He then apparently drove to our shop, 3 hours from his home (In the UK, that's half the country...) to purchase the goods from us, because I gave him my time, and didn't hang up the phone. He didn't need to do that, there were at least 50 shops selling the same item as us closer to home for him. That was the day I truly learned the struggles of deaf people. They just want to be heard and respected like everyone else. As they should be. Thanks for sharing your videos. It really does help the abled to see how hard basic things can be.

Gabriela Soltero Honestly with the amount of people who mess with the drive thru employees and they usually hate their job. And the probability of them ever encountering a deaf customer their entire time working there would be 0-1 their entire time there unless they have a regular one there. So it’s no surprise they would assume that he would be faking it since I think it was the guy who came it when he’s just asking him to write it down. And remember they don’t know sign language so all the guy sees is him giving him a sign to write it down. And the girls saying he can’t hear you. I’ve seen a video of a kid pretending to be deaf it got so many dislikes I think he deleted the video couple years ago and he gave them a paper to read and they took the order no questions asked and wrote back the amount. But the second drive thru they went to they were saying he was faking it and he started laughing then he just sped out of the drive thru... They did not have any other people in line either if it was empty so idk why the girl didn’t just write down the order it was there written down.

@@velvetmidnight9535 just because someone fakes a disability (whichis illegal), doesn't give anyone a right to assume all disabilities are fake. It's like if a white guy stole from a store; would it be morally correct for the owner of said store to be rude to all white guys because of it? No. Just because there are fake service dogs out there, does it give a right to businesses to refuse service to a disabeld person with a service dog? Federally, no. Because faking a disability, as well as faking a service dog is as illegal as impersonating a law enforcement officer. And if they hate their job, they need to get a new one instead of taking it out on customers, especially disabled customers. There is no excuse for insulting someone apart from the person who is doing it is a disgusting person who should not be working with people in general.

I was a customer service rep at a bank when a woman who was deaf came in to open an account. This was my first encounter with someone who was unable to hear. She had written on a piece of paper what she wanted, and handed it to me. I welcomed her to sit down as I started the account opening process. This was back in the late 90’s when everything was still mostly paper. I had no issue. I pulled out a stickie pad, and began asking questions. At the end of the encounter, we were both laughing at the number of stickies that were all over my desk. What s lovely person. It was memorable, because it was challenging but fun and we were both committed to finding a way to communicate, despite my awkward hand signals.

It's just natural response to use our voice to reply, same as a deaf person continuing to use sign language while speaking to a clerk. Nothing wrong with either, it takes extra effort to stop oneself, further hindering a more difficult interaction for both. Also, maybe they can read lips, hear/feel some of the base waves. I had a friend through highschool that was deaf and it was definitely easier to communicate if we spoke than if we didn't.

His order was taking "too long" according to my manager and she got all pissed at me because our times were suffering due to this guy that couldnt hear. That experience, however brief and trivial, made me want to learn ASL so that I can communicate with whoever might need it. I love seeing people's faces when they're happy to be served in a way that feels unique and personal ❤️ Regardless, establishments should have people on hand who know different methods of communication and should make use of these people when necessary. I feel really bad but people just don't understand mutism and often i just want people to get out of my face.
