⬇ New Follow Up Video! This same Drive Thru, but one year later! Check it out! ⬇ kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKmnn4aLltd8kLc Hey everyone, I want to thank you all so much for the support. However, please refrain from *any unkind comments* towards the employees. This was not our intention. Our only intention of this video was meant to educate and spread a message of how deaf people might order if they enter your drive through so anyone can be prepared. Thank you all ❤️ p.s. *This video has closed captioning, on a computer it is the "CC" button on the lower right corner. On a phone, select the 3 dot symbol in the top right corner and select captions.*

I used to work at a builders merchants, one day we got a phone call, it was odd - The phone rang, then it rang again, the man spoke and said he was translating, whilst talking to the customer through an online chat and dictating what he said. I gave the man my time. He then apparently drove to our shop, 3 hours from his home (In the UK, that's half the country...) to purchase the goods from us, because I gave him my time, and didn't hang up the phone. He didn't need to do that, there were at least 50 shops selling the same item as us closer to home for him. That was the day I truly learned the struggles of deaf people. They just want to be heard and respected like everyone else. As they should be. Thanks for sharing your videos. It really does help the abled to see how hard basic things can be.

Gabriela Soltero Honestly with the amount of people who mess with the drive thru employees and they usually hate their job. And the probability of them ever encountering a deaf customer their entire time working there would be 0-1 their entire time there unless they have a regular one there. So it’s no surprise they would assume that he would be faking it since I think it was the guy who came it when he’s just asking him to write it down. And remember they don’t know sign language so all the guy sees is him giving him a sign to write it down. And the girls saying he can’t hear you. I’ve seen a video of a kid pretending to be deaf it got so many dislikes I think he deleted the video couple years ago and he gave them a paper to read and they took the order no questions asked and wrote back the amount. But the second drive thru they went to they were saying he was faking it and he started laughing then he just sped out of the drive thru... They did not have any other people in line either if it was empty so idk why the girl didn’t just write down the order it was there written down.

@@velvetmidnight9535 just because someone fakes a disability (whichis illegal), doesn't give anyone a right to assume all disabilities are fake. It's like if a white guy stole from a store; would it be morally correct for the owner of said store to be rude to all white guys because of it? No. Just because there are fake service dogs out there, does it give a right to businesses to refuse service to a disabeld person with a service dog? Federally, no. Because faking a disability, as well as faking a service dog is as illegal as impersonating a law enforcement officer. And if they hate their job, they need to get a new one instead of taking it out on customers, especially disabled customers. There is no excuse for insulting someone apart from the person who is doing it is a disgusting person who should not be working with people in general.

I am so grateful for my hearing, I can't imagine being mean to somebody who doesn't have it. On the bright side, the general reaction also goes to show that a few bad apples won't affect the growth of the metaphorical apple tree that is our common values and respect for one another. I used to work at Tim Hortons. I was at the window, and was taught to be as fast as possible regardless of how it affects our customer's experience. A deaf guy pulled up to the window, and I was forced to stop being so fast. I took his order since he had it on his phone. His order was taking "too long" according to my manager and she got all pissed at me because our times were suffering due to this guy that couldnt hear. I felt like shit because of my manager yelling at me, and how she had absolutely no sympathy for the guy. I can imagine the shit deaf people have to deal with on the day to day just based on that experience.

As a canuck, all those drive thru timers can go down the toilet, for all I care. 22 seconds per order, seems to be the average at most places. On slow days I've had managers get in the car and loop through ordering canned soft drinks, and do that repeatedly, to keep their numbers up, or so they didn't look as bad as the other franchises in the area... They don't care that accessibility to service is not only moral, but usually mandated. I give everyone as much time, as they need.

Although we may now understand the circumstances, it’s still hits me in the back of the head in which if I were the viewer who asked that, I’d genuinely feel terrible for putting them through this.

She should've played deaf if she doesn't say shit to help the workers out there. They were also disrespecting the workers by making a show out of having a deaf guy trying to order something. If she wasn't there it would be a different story, but since she understands everything and doesn't say a word, if I worked there I would feel clowned as well like "Hey, you can clearly see we're struggling here, please help out? We are on work and have got shit to do and places to be, those burgers don't be gonna flipping by themselves" sth like this, I can see why they're mad...

Rather than bringing a minder to do things for one, as you'd hobble others with. Tell me, when my hearing flags more, since my wife of over 41 years is dead, who do I bring as a minder to do my ordering for me? Or am I just to starve, like a meek little disabled veteran should? I don’t know sign language but wanted her to know that help was there if she needed. I printed off a blank piece of receipt paper asking if she needed help finding anything. We did our best air writing letters and she asked my opinion, holding up shirts and I gave a thumbs up or down if I liked it. My manager thought it was a wholesome interaction and I got a special discount for it, but to me I was just helping the way I would for anyone else. 4 years later, I hope he’s not dealing with too much of this.

It's just natural response to use our voice to reply, same as a deaf person continuing to use sign language while speaking to a clerk. Nothing wrong with either, it takes extra effort to stop oneself, further hindering a more difficult interaction for both. Also, maybe they can read lips, hear/feel some of the base waves. I had a friend through highschool that was deaf and it was definitely easier to communicate if we spoke than if we didn't.

@randomassjellyfish 21 күн бұрын
But that's the thing. Not every deaf person should be expected to make a mobile order before they go to a restaurant. If able-bodied people can do it, why are people with disabilities being judged for doing the same thing? Just because it's inconvenient? People shouldn't be judged based on whether or not they bring "inconvenience" to us. My bad if this wasn't your intention, I just wanted to expand on your point because I think people might take it the wrong way.

I remember working at a chain clothing store when a person walked in. I asked if i could help her, and she tapped her ear and shook her head.... I immediately switched to sign (took 2 yrs in college... forgot a lot in the years between). But I tried to help her and she got what she needed. Afterward, my boss asked about my signing and asked why I didn't identify myself as bilingual... i answered, "Because the languages listed didn't include ASL, and there wasn't an option to input it manually." When I worked at the casino near me and I was handling hundreds of people in the span of an hour, I had a gentleman fake ASL to me. Me, not knowing hardly any, went to call for my coworker which is when he dropped the act. He was kind but my God did I panic a bit, especially since his body language came off as irritated at the time. That experience, however brief and trivial, made me want to learn ASL so that I can communicate with whoever might need it. I love seeing people's faces when they're happy to be served in a way that feels unique and personal ❤️ Regardless, establishments should have people on hand who know different methods of communication and should make use of these people when necessary. If there isn't someone who can help accommodate, then they should strive to do the best that they can. Proper training is important, understanding and awareness is important.

I feel really bad but people just don't understand mutism and often i just want people to get out of my face. I work retail and I’ve had a few deaf customers in my store, but every time they would tap on their ear I knew that meant they were hearing impaired, and I just ring them up and did what I always do, it didn’t affect any part of the transaction, as customers with any disabilities don’t affect any part of my job. @@liss2110 Right, but it's better to take the moral route anyways :/ pranks are annoying but they aren't that common. it's better to show respect in any situation. it INFURIATED me that they accused him of faking.

the thing is, even if hypothetically it was a prank and he wasn’t deaf, what’s wrong with taking the order? it’s typed right there on the phone, there’s nothing stopping them from making the food. having them park and wait only holds the line up more.

Ever since I was young, I wanted to open my own restaurant with every employee knowing sign language. I'm not deaf but I have some deaf family members and friends. I might not ever be able to open my own restaurant but if I ever do, I'm already learning sign language. I appreciate what you do and how you go through such degrading experiences just to inform others about things that happen to people in the deaf community.

I bet you some people are shocked a deaf person can drive. It's a lack of education and lack of wantimg to inform yourself. I'm really disappointed at the employees, like... What's the problem? Are they not able to read his phone and just take the order? It's an over complication of a something really simple.

@@TophMajora Well, honestly, I was really surprised to see that a deaf person can drive (I had to look it up). I just think hearing is an important part of driving safely. I can imagine not being able to hear other people beeping their horns could be potentially very dangerous

@@esprockstsjh Most people who fake it tend to not be educated on sign and how to communicate as a deaf person. If they are educated, they know it's insensitive to fake because that makes real deaf people be taken less seriously.

@@metro2savagetv756 That's dumb as hell. They're recording this to show exactly _why_ saying he's faking it is hurtful. That's the entire point of this video. If you'd say the same, you need to get educated on the deaf community.

its also a pretty normal response i would say. Obviously we should all try to adjust a bit faster to help make living a little more equal for everyone. but hearing is such an ingrained part of communication for so many people that it makes sense in a way. Definitely not on the side of management. but i think its fair for him to try to talk at least the second time
