The Jesus prayer definitely diminishes bad thoughts that come out of no where. I say it every time I need to stay focused. It’s not a gimmick or a child’s prayer. It’s a mystery that works. It passes all understanding.

It’s so simple that a child could say it easily, but yet there’s so much power in its simplicity. Lord Jesus Christ son of God have mercy on me a sinner. Nothing more, but the power of calling out to the lord is indescribable. Someone’s who’s been an atheist their whole lives could say it and truly mean it, and the lord will answer. A satanist can turn his back on the darkness and the lord will answer if the words of the Jesus prayer are spooked from his lips. I can go on and on , but the bottom line is, the Jesus prayer is one of the most powerful prayers in all of Christianity.

Not to be rude, but beyond a selfish purpose of acquiring interior silence, what does it do for the world? And isn't the world out there a place to roam freely and the challenge God gave people is to live dignified lives, being good, etcetera without commiting sin? Being free of sin may mean you aren't sullied by a life of disgrace... But what's the point withdrawing from life and its woes completely? What's so heroic? If life is a battlefield these monks surely aren't playing a role in it, good or bad.

You can only do something for the world when you first do something for yourself i.e. in the good way. If you see the video ,the monk clearly states he did not have agape i.e. unconditional love which he could share with others as he came from a atheistic school of thought.Hence he went to seek it. Now in deep spirituality many monks ask to intercede for the sins of men and suffer terribly both physically and spiritually. Padre Pio is a well known name who used to be physically beaten by entities to stop him in his penance. The whole point of mans life is understanding that real and lasting happiness comes from within and the path to it is v narrow and requires a lot of self discipline to multiply the gifts given by god.It raises a man consciousness so that he is able to see life through God's eyes.Such a person in a v short time can provide deep insight to the worldly mans problems and alleviate his suffering or even end it.

To me it seems he used to do more when he worked part time at a Hospital during his studies... Caring for the ill, carrying the dead to the morgue... I heard another one of his speeches, he sounds very wise. Interceding for sins however is something I may never be able to understand, and beyond his isolation and his austerity I don't see what else can be harming him, if you refer to entities I can't help but feel sceptical about it (But may be I am missing out). I understand what you mean however by doing something positive about oneself first, that's true, we study to become doctors, we don't become doctors just because we want to help people, sometimes this wish to help but the lack of knowledge can be damning to those we try and help... So he's trying to achieve agape? What's the next step in his plan? As for ending mans suffering... It's been going on since year 0, how can it end through the works of monks?
@smathias7840

Since you do not understand spiritual intercession ,it is wise to hold your judgement for now. It is carrying the crosses of others i.e. being christ like spiritually. You are definitely right that he also needs to do good works and I 100% agree with it that faith without good actions is dead, So your faith should bring out good works, From what I understand his life is one of chastisement and not of worldly pleasure.SO he is basically building a foundation for himself. It is v difficult for a normal man to get up everyday become selfless and help others and deal with the stress of it when you get nothing in return atleast in the worldly sense Almost all if not all other professions give you a return monetarily and it motivates them to take the stress of the job .What about him?So what are the mechanics, how can he gain anything from being selfess? It is internal fulfillment and regeneration i.e. moving to a closer union to God but first he needs to seek and experience the kingdom(agape) or else he will not be building his house on strong foundation and could collapse. True, suffering never ends but our ability to deal with it sure can evolve with right guidance and also spiritual graces through the intercession of Holy men .You see there is a saying, everyone comes crying into this world but the one who goes away smiling is the king of his destiny . Entities: These experiences are possible mostly in following cases 1, If an individual or someone in his family has indulged in spiritually evil things 2 Someone has cursed a certain person through occult 3 If you reach a very high state of holiness where you know that evil is real. Here there is godly bliss and the opposite of it. Jesus: Seek the kigdom of God and its righteousness and the rest will be added unto you.

I refrain from judging, I've stated a (mutable) opinion that I hold now, my degree of knowledge is null, so you must understand me from where I stand I barely know anything about Christianity, so I don't comprehend it, I do however proceed with cautious logic which could or not be faulty. That's why I'm using the youtube comments as a way of having a conversation, I ask questions that I wish to be answered, instead of making statements as if I were standing on a soapbox. I am genuinely interested in religion, but my perspective is that of a non-believer, and even with the knowledge you provide, this will be filtered and scrutinized, in hopes that I can arrive at a firm conclusion some day, for now I proceed with philosophy.

Father Lazarus is the single reason I turned from sin, and the reason I lived as a monk, to a degree. And now, I’m a teacher to a certain degree, but my problem is the isms. But isms aren’t necessarily sinful. I’ve become him, but different. I want to meet him and thank him. Cheers.

@Joseph I honestly am surprised by the coincidence of your response as I'm reading. I'm going to finish out my collegiate understanding down the very same path he went. But rather different relatively speaking. As I annotate, I went down the path of sin very young. Due to intense trauma. I found God through him, Fr Lazarus and shunned the world. I became an idiot socratean. Despising all that was. A fool. But I realized I must practice maintenance of myself; sustainable. This comes from society, Congruency is positive. I mean also monetarily. He; father Lazarus was a professor. I am too called this, or teacher. It is odd, but after all this time, the great Lazarus has affected me effectually unto efficacy of professorship. Of the faith and linguistics. I intend to be educated by the secularist, only to engage in positive maieutics, I will be victorious by the hand of The Father. I am a negative destruction of the failed reasonings of the secularist commune. And perhaps completed in eventual proceedings. Fr. Lazarus was led astray by isms. But I am with God in them. Who among men will prosper? Not the ungodly. No so. But he who walks with God His fruit shall be borne in their season

@@moveinsilencegs5136 It's dangerous to compare oneself to anyone, especially God-bearing monks. Experienced monks like Fr. Lazarus would never say that they had reached equivalency with anyone. That would be a prideful claim. They would say that they are worse than everyone else in the world.

I started saying the Jesus Prayer and I felt like I was being lifted up and away from the pestering voices that have been bothering me for while (it appears to be that every time I devote myself to proper spiritual practice, devils hate that and they pester me. They try to speak loudly so I cannot hear/feel Jesus and it is annoying/disorienting). When I say the Jesus prayer I hear them still but I feel almost as if I am hovering over them. Like their words could not reach me anymore and I was brought to another room. Then I cried. Now I try to do it at 3 am. I have tried meditation but that sort of uncontrolled silence seems to allow them in. With Jesus prayer I can die to myself while calling upon Jesus. And too asking for mercy alleviates my soul. Every time I say the Jesus Prayer something magical happens, seriously. Maybe it will not be like this every time but every time I do God gifts me something (most times even these gifts I can interact with my physical senses so this is even more special to me but I love the Spiritual gifts Father gives me and I am grateful for them. Also one of the men sharing I relate to what he said about inner stillness. I find it much easier to constantly say the Jesus Prayer (or when needed for long periods of time) than to having to be constantly conscious of my thoughts. For me it is stressful to constantly be on my guard of my own sin and other devils that wish to distract me. All of this is chatter chatter chatter and it is very stressful. Saying the Jesus Prayer is greatly alleviating. I hope that this inspires and encourages anyone reading this. Truly it (the Jesus Prayer) is amazing.

@@Teddy-ke6xh Christ fasting in the desert for 40 days is not the same as traditional Monasticism. Also the apostles condemned those in the early church that practiced asceticism. ‭Colossians 2:17-23 NRSV‬ [17] These are only a shadow of what is to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. [18] Do not let anyone disqualify you, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, dwelling on visions, puffed up without cause by a human way of thinking, [19] and not holding fast to the head, from whom the whole body, nourished and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows with a growth that is from God. [20] If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the universe, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations, [21] “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch”? [22] All these regulations refer to things that perish with use; they are simply human commands and teachings. [23] These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-imposed piety, humility, and severe treatment of the body, but they are of no value in checking self-indulgence. bible.com/bible/2016/col.2.17-23.NRSV

Man watching this documentary honestly...made me realize how my place is hella seriously Christian(specifically Catholic), this is part of my lesson from senior high until now college, In my place there are a lot of Christian(Catholic) Institutions and we got this class call ReED and it teaches us about first interpretation, points of views whether it's from the followers or how others can find inspiration or learn from it even if they aren't christian catholic, then after those like well in my current situation, my school is teaching us bible study, most catholic institution in my place are serious about like what this or that legitimately means whether it's the bible verse, history from the bible, Culture of the bible and some origin of the words for shirt Bible study, this video makes the knowledge quite worth it (I'm not religious but i know some stuff) There's also these things about the bible so there are other Christian bibles and theres the Catholic bible, the amount of stuff to know if the translation of the bible is verified (Especially in the Catholic Bible) and true is ngl really a lot, like from the old Hebrew->Greek then to the other languages like English,Spanish,French, Filipino so on so forth, Tbh props to the translators, editors etc cause that's tiring. (From what I learned there are bibles that doesnt have like the official verification and follow the catholic order but not being catholic so they can be published which cause some confusion in terms of translation (It can be used for interpretation but never for study)

The reason people are able to overcome certain things is because mindfulness is the result. Prayer is just another form of meditation. This isn’t some crazy spiritual thing going on. It’s literally just being mindful and having the brain operate at a deeper level.

Hello! I'm not fluent in coptic so can't be sure if it's the exact same hymn (many coptic hymns share the same tune) but the Saturday Theotokia shares the same tune. This is a nice recording - soundcloud.com/fadi-guirguis/saturday-theotokia-virgin-mary-and-st-athanasius-youth These are the words to the chant - tasbeha.org/hymn_library/view/359 God Bless :)

@@patrickmartin8783 Excommunicated from the 4th council due to semantics and political issues, true Orthodox faith focuses on faith through tradition, not tradition through faith. Try to understand the pointlessness of differentiating what is and isn't Orthodox through petty semantics and Nikonian rites in the case of the Eastern Orthodox Church.

@@patrickmartin8783 Brother thats not true. The coptic church was after the palestine church the first to accept jesus. When the holy family stayed in egypt. Eastern orthodox is ancient too of course but not that old.

Matthew 6:7-13 " And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that the will be heard for their many words." -8. Therefore do not be like them. For you Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.-9. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Mora Sedhom I do not wish to troll especially that I respect Coptic Church. We Orthodox in Serbia consider Copts as our brothers. But its odd to me that they are talking about jesus prayer, especially when it includes transformation of physical body as well and bridge between human and divine nature which is joined by Christ. Something which is not recognized enough in Coptic Church. A monk who is a friend of mine told me that father Lazar became a monk first in Serbian Orthodox Church an later on he went to the desert. He also told me that Coptic Church had some very very strong praying monks in it's history. Thank you very much for the information you've written, as I know very little on the subject !
