I don’t think gaming is the problem. He has mental and emotional issues and playing games is just a distraction for him. I feel like the parents haven’t spent enough bonding time with him and they basically just gave up on him.

LOL You must be really young.... They said the exact same thing about TV, and the exact same thing when "Nintendo" first came out... the only problem is that now it's EVERYWHERE, you can talk to people on it which makes you feel like you're being social.... Also, don't tell me these people weren't EXACTLY like drug addicts lol.... The kid had dreams about playing video games... You know what they call those in NA? "Drug dreams"... Some addicts have dreams where they're trying to score drugs, actually getting drugs, whatever, for YEARS after they stop using. He was having the exact same mental responses as a drug addict or alcoholic. Same with the other guy. And I'm sorry, I just don't believe that anyone ever had THAT bad of a response with TV.

True but it's also possible being addicted. I used to be a gamer too playing 17 hours per day during my day off and 6 hours on working days until I quit my job just so I can game all day, wasn't worth it. It's hard to accept the fact that gaming addiction can cause a lot of problems too physically and mentally. Curing gaming addiction takes a lot of time really, and it's not easy.

Drayonis I'll be 50 in a few yrs. lol. Anyway, I have 8 children that I have gone through this with. Half of them outgrew it. The other half I'm still working with. I get them out of the house away from the computers. Its a difficult matter especially if they suffer from anger issues. These kids nowadays are not like our generation assuming you are near my age.
@Drayonis
@Drayonis 7 жыл бұрын
I'm close to your age yes and that never happened in my house because I'm not discussing anything with kids. Parents are too soft on their kids and allowing them to get away with anything. Treating kids like adults. The fact that he even OWNS that computer is a problem. I tell mine everyday you don't have a room, I'm just letting you stay here.

So I can play outside for 10 hours but I can't play games for 10 hours?
@MichaelMagill1990
@MichaelMagill1990 6 жыл бұрын
Playing video games for 10 hours a day isn't necessarily bad so long as you're paying attention to your studies, working on developing some other skill, and especially being social... but that's extremely unlikely. Being social is extremely important because it's the skill that will provide you with the most advantages in life. When you're playing outside with friends for ten hours, you're at least honing those social skills. Though, "playing" outside can be just as bad as gaming, depending on who you are socializing with, since you can develop social habits that only hinder you as you get older. The important thing to note is the type of distinction you are making between the activities. What you are doing is making a *moral* comparison. Sure, it isn't "right" that someone gets to enjoy doing something else for 10 hours a day and somehow that activity be more socially acceptable. But the fact is, it's not that the activity is more socially acceptable that makes it more worthwhile, it's that the activity is simply more beneficial. Being outside and participating in physical activities makes you more sexually and socially attractive as well for example. As a rule of thumb, any activity that enhances skills that will be useful in adulthood is good, and any activity that reinforces behavior that will need to be changed later in life is bad. The reason being is that it's more difficult to change as an adult due to a decrease in neuroplasticity. If such habits persist into adulthood, you'll probably have to resort to cognitive behavioral therapy to get your life on track (time and money). The role of parents, similar to other members of the animal kingdom, is to provide *guidance* so that their offspring develop the skills necessary to survive in the surrounding environment. When you encourage your children to develop skills that are counterproductive to that goal (which parents often unknowingly do) you are developing behavioral problems that can produce a life-long struggle (in other words, ruining their lives). Unfortunately, you cannot fight the current with it comes to survival as an adult. You need a form of income, and you need to be social. If you can find a way to secure an income that's plentiful enough to put food on the table, a roof over your head, and to support your gaming habits... go for it. Just be sure that the life of a gaming addict is what you truly wish to have, because essentially the entirety of your actions will be central to that one activity. And you might just find later in life how regretful you are for pursuing such a fruitless ambition.

This is why you set boundaries when they are small. Their tantrums hurt less. I think people are really lost. It is taboo to even parent anymore, everything we say or do is wrong. Some people just choose to sit on their hands in confusion, but we have to fight for our kids and set them up for a positive future! Don't let people tell you how to parent your kids, do the right thing!

That’s ridiculous referring to video games as heroin video games are a escape for a lot of people I definitely do not agree him play 12-14 hours a day but still he should be aloud to play you don’t need to send him to a “video game rehab” honestly I hate the news all they do is say video games are bad bad bad and nothing else but bad when they aren’t all bad

A more acurate term is gaming compulsion. The body in a addiction has it become a necessitie for the addictive substance. Video games realease dopamine, a chemical that makes people happy. So can reading a book and eating ice cream
