The office yelling "relax!" at the end and Attig responding "I'm relaxed as I can be." That's a common tactic when arresting people that cops aren't sure there's a legitimate reason for which to arrest them or charge them with a crime. He was likely trying to establish that Attig was "resisting arrest" which is a chargeable offense even when the initial arrest was not legitimate.
@littilwood
@littilwood 3 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure that, unless there was just cause for the initial arrest, resisting charges aren't likely to apply, particularly if there was no violence involved (violence, in and of itself, is an arrestable offense. Resisting arrest isn't an arrestable offense, as one would already have to be under arrest to resist an arrest).
@hlnjhr2foine
@hlnjhr2foine 3 жыл бұрын
@@littilwood You'd be surprised. It's a standalone charge in many states and that an officer technically lacked the legal authority to make the arrest in the first place is not a defense to the charge of resisting arrest. In that way, even when the first charge doesn't stick, the resisting arrest charge still can. I worked in the criminal justice system and it's well known in that world that cops basically yell things like "stop resisting!" (especially since the advent of police body cams) as a form of insurance to legitimize excessive force or to make sure there's a charge that sticks. Of course it doesn't happen or work every time and of course many times, suspects arguably resisted arrest. And it's not overwhelmingly common that in the end, that's the only conviction. But there are also a lot of witness and surveillance camera footage these days showing instances of cops yelling things like "relax!" and "stop resisting!" to people who are apparently not resisting or even lying limp on the ground. Another common tactic is including the language in the police report that a suspects arms went "stiff" during cuffing. I've seen those words in so many police reports for arrests where the suspect apparently submitted peacefully and there was no other struggle detailed - and that's often presented as evidence of resisting arresting. Prosecutors love adding that charge and the police often make it easy for them to do so. Btw, I'm not condemning all cops or calling for defunding. But I think people should be aware that this happens. If anyone ever finds themselves being arrested, and the officer arresting you says something to imply that he thinks you're resisting, say something back to make it clear that you're not.
@curiousorigins
@curiousorigins 3 жыл бұрын
favorite.puppet Thank you for stating the facts and sharing the logic behind it. Cops often will raise their voice like this to ensure that witnesses to the event will hear them clearly. Doing the same as a citizen is a worthwhile tactic to ensure that you’re heard by witnesses as well.

@@hlnjhr2foine you should be calling for defunding. The cops do serve a role, a VERY limited role, but within that narrow scope a legitimate role in society. The current institution however is beyond saving. It must be burned to the ground (figuratively) so something appropriate can be erected in its place. Something without trafic cops armed and trained to kill, something without warrior training, something with police unions using organize crime tactics run protection rackets on cities. And in the meantime all that money wasted on hiring tens of thousands of white supremacits and then arming those white supremacists with military gear that law enforcement will never need can go to finding things like social workers and EMTs that actually make us safer and reduce crime.

The true damage to trans people was done when the doctors caved to political pressure and changed the DSM. This made it impossible to truly help trans people any more. A very very small group who deserved to be helped. Now no doctor will treat the illness. They just pat them on the back and try to boost their self esteem while almost half of them March thru drugs and surgery on their way to suicide. @@myleskgallagher I respect everybody’s beliefs however, allowing a child to make a decision on something that is so life changing, doesn’t sit well with me. You wouldn’t let your child take steroids, so why would you let your child take puberty blockers and go through surgery at the age their at. Muscle dysphoria is also real, does that mean children should be allowed to pump drugs and oil into themselves at the age their at. When they are able to CONSENT, then they should definitely be allowed to transition but before then in my opinion it is child abuse. This is further proven when parents of transitioning kids post their kids on social media. Like why would you do that, when they are going through such a hard time unless you want attention and fame. Allowing transitioning at such a young age allows a route for abuse to creep into existence with parents controlling the gender of their kids and without them being allowed to experience themselves fully. This can even be seen on Tik Tok with kids as young as 4 telling us that, wait their parents telling us that they are transgender and that they have been put on hormone blockers. If your child is allowed to express their views in a an accepting environment, then their wouldn’t be any problems. As i said many of these people don’t have a problem with someone transitioning, rather they have a problem with a kid who cant even make a smart or well judged decision transitioning. If you allow children to transition before the age of 18 without therapy, to ensure that they won’t regret their decision, you are in my opinion committing negligence and child abuse. Have a good day and stay safe, I think we all are entitled to our rights and being able to express ourselves however, how we go about doing that is also part of the equation, your implying to me that their shouldn’t be any limit on who can and can’t transition and this would stretch into even parents transitioning a newborn.

They go through therapy and at most they transition socially, meaning just changing what clothes they wear, cutting their hair if need be or styling it different, and using the name and pronouns they are comfortable with. @Hobo assistant except minors can choose which gender they are. I’m not sure if you know what it feels like to be trans, but for a lot of trans people you know that from the moment you realise what gender is you are not the gender that was assigned to you, and by having these facilities and surgies to help young trans people become who they really are, you are saving lives. It would only be child abuse if the parents were forcing their child to be trans, but I’m pretty sure a majority of trans people’s parents would rather they not transition as just stay as their assigned gender. I see where you’re coming from but those ‘life changing effects’ you’re talking about are actually life changing in a good way

@@madeofmoths then there is clearly a problem on mental health ,instead of using suicides as an excuse why not advocate for Better physiological attention suicide is preventable by recieving psychological help. Making unrepairable changes to the body is a decision the adult should do, now since it's about self identification should children have the chance to make tattoos on their body's while the are 10 yeara old? just cause they like dinosaurs and want to have the skin like one .... Well no they might want it but you as a parent must not allow them to make such decisions that will change their life style and change their bodies If you are willing to accept a treatment of hormone blockers which will probably make you infertile then why not allow them to tattoo themselves Being transexual is not wrong but the gap is that the child might be transvestie and transition is not the response for it ,none of these are wrong ,what is wrong is giving a child the responsability at a young age but at the end if the child latter on regrets it the. The adult is the one that must carry that on their back for doing such unrepairable damage Also you talk about suicide because they don't feel identified with their gender have you even looked at the numbers of people commiting suicide after detrasitioning

@@HomicideAngel What is a therapist going to tell someone who is trans? The problem is that they are not allowed to physically be themselves and a therapist isn't going to be able to do anything. You guys act like hormone therapy is like taking meth. Most of the time, people don't figure out that they are trans until puberty because that's when a lot of bodily changes happen. Puberty happens in teenagers, not 9 year olds. I think a teenager should be allowed to make decisions about their own body and decide whether they want to use hormone therapy or not.
